What do you have on the wall above your bed?

We've just redecorated our bedroom and I have no idea what to put on the wall above the bed. We've painted the walls a bluey green and on the other walls we have quite traditional artwork in gold frames which really goes well with the wall colour but the bed is chrome and I don't know what to do with the wall above. It's a pretty big space.

Any ideas?

Nothing. Ever since an incident 30+ years ago involving an A1 sized The Queen is Dead poster falling down in the middle of the night and scaring the bejesus out of me, I'm never having anything over my bed again.

KangarooKenny · 07/10/2022 21:22

Nothing.

Mum2jenny · 07/10/2022 21:23

Nothing, why would you?

Blueuggboots · 07/10/2022 21:23

We've got a Star Trek print of the starship enterprise blueprint in an ikea walnut frame. my OH is a geek

Anniefrenchfry · 07/10/2022 21:24

A very large picture. I’d keep with thr gold frame theme and get a massive picture nearly as wide as th4 bed.

you could also put a large mirror there.

TwigTheWonderKid · 07/10/2022 21:27

We've got a run or mirrored wardrobes opposite the bed ( I know it's bad Feng Shui...) so not a mirror.

I have a string of plug in lantern-style lights (junk aisle at Lidl a few years ago). I'm probably going to swap them for warm fairy lights shortly as they are dusty AF and impossible to keep clean.

It just adds a bit of visual warmth to the room.

Nothing - too worried about stuff falling down while I sleep!

TwigTheWonderKid · 07/10/2022 21:30

@Mum2jenny because there is a massive expanse of bare wall and it looks odd?

What about a tapestry (if it fits with your vibe)
National trust have them for sale and I've always quite fancied william Morris strawberry thief tapestry www.ntprints.com/category/8806/other-collections/tapestries-wall-hangings

This. I would worry about a picture falling and beheading me in my sleep!

OnTheBoardwalk · 07/10/2022 21:34

@Everydaywheniwakeup I’m with you!

nothing on the walls of my bedroom after my teenage years of living in fear when a poster would fall on your head in the middle of the night

B1pbop · 07/10/2022 21:35

Bizarre picture hanging skills in this thread 😂

what about an actual tapestry eg a Lucy Tiffney blanket (pricey but you get the idea)

or google image search “wall behind bed” for loads of ideas.

Bookaholic73 · 07/10/2022 21:37

A long shelf with various prints and plants on.

By the way, I adore the colour of your wall paint, what is it?

TheClitterati · 07/10/2022 21:39

My bed is by the window - so I have curtains & a window. I like it.

EerilyDevilled · 07/10/2022 21:40

Nothing after an incident years ago where an arrangement of artificial flowers on a straw hat fell on us in the night at MIL's house nearly giving us both heart failure. It was perched on a nail that only stuck out of the wall by about 5mm.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 07/10/2022 21:40

We have a Ron Lawson landscape

HavfrueDenizKisi · 07/10/2022 21:41

above our bed. Sorry pressed too soon!

EerilyDevilled · 07/10/2022 21:41

So nothing hanging but maybe eg a piece of metal wall art which is screwed into the wall

NiqueNique · 07/10/2022 21:43

Two framed prints.

mynameiscalypso · 07/10/2022 21:45

I am another who refuses to have pictures over the bed (even though I've never had a picture fall down). I do like the idea of a tapestry though. Less lethal maybe.

Thecatisboss · 07/10/2022 21:45

We have a painting bought in Northumberland a few years ago as its very restful.

SBAM · 07/10/2022 21:45

A set of three framed paintings bought on our honeymoon in oak frames (furniture is a mix of oak and white).

Hung on screws firmly secured with the proper rawlplugs so unlikely to behead me. Plus they’re IKEA frames so I think it’s plastic not glass.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 07/10/2022 21:45

Nothing, for the same reasons as everyone else. But we have patterned paper on that wall, so it doesn’t look bare.
