What do you have on the wall above your bed?

We've just redecorated our bedroom and I have no idea what to put on the wall above the bed. We've painted the walls a bluey green and on the other walls we have quite traditional artwork in gold frames which really goes well with the wall colour but the bed is chrome and I don't know what to do with the wall above. It's a pretty big space.

Any ideas?

I have a painting of my grandparents house which was the one place where I was happy and it felt like home.
They are long gone now.

A large print from Lush Eclectic. One day I might treat myself to an original.

I like that very much.

It's personal, offers comfort and provides positive vibes around you while you sleep.

Long my you sleep in comfort and positivity!

We have a small cedar wood Native American carving of a hummingbird. We bought it in Canada 15 years ago, the hummingbird comes back every summer and so is a symbol of faithfulness. We have some other similar Canadian art in the rest of the room.

I don’t have anything above my bed, the ceiling slopes so I couldn’t if I wanted to.

Looking at your picture, I think that it would be difficult to get anything to look right above your bed as the scale is wrong, there just isn’t enough space above your headboard. If you like, try drawing various sizes of shapes onto your photo and see what you think.

I would ideally go for larger bedside lamps to add interest and if you don’t want to replace them try picture(s) in a long tall configuration above the right hand bedside cabinet.

Don’t you worry about getting your head stuck in the headboard?

Could be just me. There’s no way I could have a bed like that. I got my head stuck in a farm gate when I was little.

Tubbyinthehottub · 08/10/2022 21:29

Ooooh nooo, nothing above the bed. Looks fine as is

PeasInOurTime · 08/10/2022 21:36

A surfboard. Mine to be precise. We get sand in the bed every time I use it. It seemed like a good idea at the time!

Having had everything up there a full size pic and bigger lamps works rhe best. Excuse my iPad art but like this.

The gaps are much bigger than my head so I am perfectly safe!

Maybe it's the angle I've taken the photo from but our ceilings are 3m high and the gap between the top of the bed and the coving is just over 130cm gap so plenty of space I think.

Ah, there's the answer for anyone who'd like some art on the wall over their bed but worried about it falling on them - hire @Anniefrenchfry to do a mural!Grin

HoobleDooble · 09/10/2022 00:51

Two framed drawings of cats and a shelf with some photos and my Kermit the Frog doll from the 70s on it.

MarmadukeSpillageEsquire · 09/10/2022 00:51

Sword of Damocles in rose gold.

Wichit · 09/10/2022 00:53

A stag's head complete with antlers.

Wichit · 09/10/2022 00:54

Actually it would match your colour scheme quite nicely.

What kind of size head have you got?!

Tralalalalalalalalalala · 09/10/2022 00:59

Nothing. Don't want to be hit in the head.

MissingNashville · 09/10/2022 01:02

Nothing. But our ‘headboard’ is floor to ceiling and really wide. Not sure it should be called a headboard or has another name. We’ve got art on another wall. I wouldn’t want anything above me when was asleep, like others I’d be scared of something falling on me.

Weenurse · 09/10/2022 01:09

My DD did an art piece for us.
Do you have a local market or artist you could visit for ideas?

Another idea (didn't see it mentioned when I scanned earlier posts - sorry if already suggested) is rather than one big piece in the middle, two smaller pieces - one above each the lamps (or four smaller pieces, two above each of the lamps). Something 3D may be nice as you'd potentially get a nice shadow. And see the dust

catscatscurrantscurrants · 15/10/2022 17:09

@gratefulheart It's a massive sheet of wrapping paper that I framed up - from Frederica Cards fredericacards.co.uk/wrapping-paper/
