Where on Earth can I find good quality Sofas

Just as the subject said! I've heard horrible stories about DFS, SCS and now I'm hearing stories about Sofology who I was gonna go with and I just don't know what else to do. Where can I find good quality sofas that will last and won't break/wear out after a few months?

Honestly? IKEA. They're not beautiful, or the forefront of design. But they are extremely solid, you can switch out the covers on a lot of them (including using separate covers from other companies if you want something bespoke) and they last well. We've had a variety of sofas, from the very cheap (Dunelm) to the quite-pricey (Sofa Workshop). These have lasted the best by far.

We have narrowed it down to John Lewis and Marks and Spencer. Still can't decide on a model though.

Thanks for your input. Honestly I hadn't even thought of IKEA. I'm gonna have a browse and see if there's anything on there I like :)

We've just bought two sofas and a large footstool from here sofasofa.co.uk for a good price (they had a sale on). The footstool wasn't upholstered properly so they sent a replacement within a week, no quibble.

I've been looking at JL and they seem to have quite nice ones tbf...are you just looking online or do you try them in person? My local Jl doesn't seem to have many samples for testing in person

I've heard lots of good things about Sofas and stuff.

My neighbour has one and it looks stunning and is comfortable. It feels great quality but she's only had it a few months so time will tell.

nairyw · 27/04/2022 18:21

i've a good one from Laura Ashley but i think they've gone.

fufulina · 27/04/2022 18:22

Another vote for sofa.com. We went to the Bankside showroom. Great quality, lovely fabrics, the woman who helped us was brilliant. Ordered and delivered within 8 weeks. Zero fuss. Really excellent.

Bigbouncingbaby · 27/04/2022 18:23

I have a Next sofa, lovely quality and reasonable price.

Sofa.com are fabulous. Great quality, excellent customer service. In fact I ordered some cushions and when they came they just looked to big for the sofa. They replaced for smaller size, noo quibble and no cost to me even though the fault was mine

Orpheline · 27/04/2022 18:27

Collins & Hayes - feather

Nattalie18 · 27/04/2022 18:27

We just bought one from Darlings of Chelsea. It is amazing

Ulysses · 27/04/2022 18:28

I got two sofas from John Lewis that seem well made. They were custom made so took about 18 weeks. I ordered in September and they arrived January. I knew there was a long lead time for sofas. Some of the models/fabrics are available within 2 weeks though.

LegArmpits · 27/04/2022 18:30

Another vote for sofasofa.com

We've had a number of chairs and sofas from them over the years, a chair is still going strong 15 years later. You can also buy replacement foam and cushions and even covers. Really good customer service and quality.

Oh I came on to say Laura Ashley!

FairyPolkadot · 27/04/2022 18:51

M&S, made.com and Cotswold Company - mine all 20 years old and still doing great.

MrsMangelsPortrait · 27/04/2022 18:56

Ours are old John Lewis ones that we've had reupholstered in cool velvet colours. Both have new cushions; one of them even has new antique legs and feet. We felt that we couldn't afford brand new JL so had them redone for a fraction of the price. If you buy a sofa with a hardwood frame and a quality sprung base it will last forever in various incarnations.

Probably not much help I'm afraid Op!

MrsMangelsPortrait · 27/04/2022 18:57

*when I say new cushions, I mean new seat and back cushions, not scatter cushions (although they are new too!)

My DH always thought it was odd that store has a queue.
Until I pointed out the sexual health clinic next door.

I can highly recommend Oak furniture land, it took us ages to decide until we went there.

Sprig1 · 27/04/2022 19:09
