Where on Earth can I find good quality Sofas

Just as the subject said! I've heard horrible stories about DFS, SCS and now I'm hearing stories about Sofology who I was gonna go with and I just don't know what else to do. Where can I find good quality sofas that will last and won't break/wear out after a few months?

We bought from SCS last year and so far, we're very pleased with our purchase. We had to wait 16 weeks for the sofas, but they were delivered a week early in the end.
All the staff in the store we visited (Swindon) were very polite and helpful, as were all the call centre staff and the two men who delivered and assembled the sofas.

We bought an expensive corner sofa from Sofas and Stuff and it was absolutely rubbish. We might just have been unlucky but I wouldn't recommend them myself nor would I buy from them again.

Barker Stonehouse - we have 2 sofas from them they were from their cheaper range and they have been just about ok but nothing special. Have had to replace the filling for the back cushions as they kept flopping over and looked messy all the time.

Watching this thread with interest as I am buying again soon and would really like to get it right next time!

Oh no, I'm currently thinking of buying one from sofology? Are they a bad idea?

Collins & Hayes - feather

Collins and Hayes are great. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. And the Linara fabric option has 360 shades to choose from.

I echo Sofa.com

Great quality, lovely choices of fabric & sofas. Love mine 😍

LadyJGrey · 27/04/2022 19:47

Check out the sofa.com clearance section for a possible bargain too

Ragruggers · 27/04/2022 19:50

Beautiful sofa from Collins and Hayes, made to order in Sussex.

newtb · 27/04/2022 19:51

Delcor are good, but not cheap.

GrouchyKiwi · 27/04/2022 20:28

I love my two from Sofas and Stuff. They're so comfortable and pretty. Have had them for about 3 years now and even with 3 children and a large slobbery dog they're in superb condition.

elephantbreathing · 27/04/2022 20:36

And honestly I don't mind splurging a little for the sofas as we're moving into a home that we know we'll be in for a good 10 years at-least so If I can find a good quality, timeless sofa that will last that time I'm all go!

Next bought Laura Ashley and they still sell sofas under the Laura Ashley brand.

CoralPaperweight · 28/04/2022 08:59

I have been very disappointed with JLewis furniture previously. Top of price range but didn't last at all. Made.com can be a nightmare - takes payment and then keeps pushing back delivery date. I was quoted 16 weeks lead time for an ottoman but ended up cancelling the order at 23 weeks as no sign of said item and being told at least another 3 weeks. Our IKEA sofa bed still going strong

wonkygorgeous · 28/04/2022 09:00

Sofa Sofa in Wales. They deliver anywhere in the UK.

Family run company not a big multi National one.

Good quality, good price, good service. As they cut and sew themselves you can have any fabric they do on any sofa they make. Endless choices.

Only one showroom though and it's in Newport.

I've got all my sofas with them for decades, so have all my family. Once you find them it's hard to use another supplier.

They do genuine discounts in January and September.

StorminNorma · 28/04/2022 09:05

Do you have a good decent local department store near you? They usually have a range of sofas from different manufacturers so you can get an idea of what's available and what suits - quite often manufacturers will follow a kind of basic template in terms of eg cushion size and vary it in terms of arm shape, fabric and so on, so sitting on sofas from a range of them will give you a good idea. Also a local store tends to be better for delivery and disposal of old one.

waltzingparrot · 28/04/2022 09:07

Furniture Village sell Tetrad sofas. Ours is over 20 years old now but will last forever. I have renewed the cushion covers once.

Well at first I was gonna go for them and then I read a bunch of reviews on Trust Pilot that put me off. A friend of mine also said they're rubbish and sofa didn't last a year :(

Agree with Ikea. I wanted one from made.com until I read the reviews. I went with Valentuna from Ikea because it is modular and has ottoman storage and they regularly offer different colour covers if I get sick of the colour, and they are washable and can be reconfigured in any shape. Not the prettiest but very practical and firm, no sagging to worry about. Delivery options were much better than other online sofa companies too.

FlowerArranger · 28/04/2022 09:31

Do you have a local sofa shop? We bought a sofa bed from such a shop, made to order in the width and the fabric that we wanted, and it is still going strong a dozen years later. Maybe in another dozen years or so we'll get it reupholstered, but I think the frame will last years and years and years.

The other suggestion I have to try an upholsterer. I was looking for a super comfortable armchair that doesn't look totally old fashioned but couldn't find what I wanted. Walked into this tiny shop hoping they could suggest a supplier, as I thought they'd only upholster customers' existing chairs and sofas. Turned out they happened to have the perfect chair for sale and I bought it there and then.

Africa2go · 28/04/2022 12:14

We've had a corner sofa from Sofa Sofa and I wouldn't recommend - the back cushions haven't retained their shape and although we paid extra for fabric protection, its marked (it was light grey) - no so much that it looks dreadful but its 4 years old and I've been wanting to replace it for about 2 years!

Also had sofas from Next, M&S and John Lewis. Next were probably the best, JL next and then M&S (although we did go for the less expensive option at M&S so perhaps you get what you pay for?).

longtompot · 28/04/2022 13:14

@Africa2go the fabric protection doesn't stop marks, it just stops them from becoming permanent. Unless of course you have tried to get it out and it's hasn't come out. Did you get a cleaning kit with your as we did with ours.
Our sofas also came with labels saying to plump the cushions up daily, so I wonder if this is a new thing due to issues like yours.
We did have a sofa bed from them over 10 years ago which was all the in-laws would fork out for (they used to stay at ours when over from abroad and didn't want to pay to stay in a b&b or hotel) and it wasn't comfortable as either a bed or a sofa.

Africa2go · 28/04/2022 13:19

@longtompot yes, of course we tried to get the marks out, immediately and in some cases its worked, in a few areas it hasn't or its left a water mark. Did all the plumping too - I think with a corner sofa though there are a couple of cushions that are shaped so can only be used in one precise area which hasn't helped (you know normally, you can sometimes switch cushions / seats around so if people tend to sit in one particular area, you can rotate the cushions so they don't wear quite as much just in one area) but generally just think its poor quality compared to other brands we've had.

Kat1953 · 28/04/2022 13:26

I just have a cheap one but agree that I've heard good things about darlings of Chelsea made.com and sofa.com
