Where on Earth can I find good quality Sofas

Just as the subject said! I've heard horrible stories about DFS, SCS and now I'm hearing stories about Sofology who I was gonna go with and I just don't know what else to do. Where can I find good quality sofas that will last and won't break/wear out after a few months?

Another ikea vote, covers can be washed in the washing machine and is a good solid base. We tried sofa.com but found we were constantly having the plump the cushions and it looked old and worn within a month. We got a refund and then got our IKEA one.

We’re looking at stonehouse & barker. So many were comfy.

jaundicedoutlook · 08/05/2022 09:35

Sofas we’ve had over the years:

Heals - really good, lasted ages, v.comfortable. However, that was years ago and our recent experience of Heals is that they’ve gone downhill a lot in quality

M&S - utter crap. Hated it within weeks of buying it. Uncomfortable, looked shabby after a few months. Never again.

Sofas & Stuff - quite liked it but one side eventually got a dint in it that we could never get out.

Arlo & Jacob - big sofa, sort of Chesterfield style, has been great. Corner sofa not so great as base cushions sink a bit and look messy unless obsessively plumped.

Sofa dot com, Willow and Hall, John Lewis – all excellent.

Avoid Made dot com like the plague.

We have a G Plan through John Lewis and happy with it. The only thing is the one we chose has the seat pad as one long section so the fabric wrinkles a bit which wouldn't happen with individual seat pads. As it happens with young kids, we have throws over it so doesn't matter but very comfy and seems to be holding shape really well.

I have had 3 sets of furniture from sofasofa, but I have to say in the past year or two they have been a nightmare. Gone is the awesome customer service! We’ve had our current furniture under 2 years, have sent various bits back but they just ‘inspect’ it and say there’s nothing wrong. It’s a shame because they used to be brilliant. Can’t believe we’re looking again for a new sofa because ours is saggy, uncomfortable and looks shite!

I found Sofasofa customer service was really good. The footstool that came with our sofas had been upholstered badly so they sent out a new one and took back the original one within the week

@Maladicta love your sofa. It was the one I wanted but dh vetoed it and plus it was too big for our room sad

would like to follow thread as I need to buy one for my property. consider leather corner now.

Blueuggboots · 24/05/2022 20:22

We bought expensive leather sofas from furniture village (£5k) and they're still brilliant 5 years later.

donquixotedelamancha · 24/05/2022 20:28

A lot of small manufacturers use eBay. We found one in our area and went to the factory to order directly. Git a three piece, top quality, leather suite for half what it would have been in the shops.

graceandmercy · 25/05/2022 08:21

have found one in village furniture met my needs and budget, but many negative reviews over vf, so stop me from ordering. but keep thinking of the sofa...

oh I never thought of this. let's go treasure hunting 😀

It was worth it for us because what we wanted (traditional leather chesterfields) would have been £4-5k from one of the big shops, has to be made to order and quality seems very variable, even when paying top whack.

The company address should be on their profile so it's not too hard figuring out who the genuine manufacturers are.

Another thumbs up for Darlings of Chelsea.

Queenie900 · 13/06/2022 23:45

Mine is from next, its lasted really well (except for the part where the Chihuahua has ripped the seam!) you can order loads of different colours too - delivery time is depending on the fabric you pick though. Or maybe try a smaller company? Have ordered wicker hearts and a coffee table from gigi home interiors before - they have sofas I think, link is here

Roselilly36 · 14/06/2022 05:14

G-Plan and Parker Knoll are excellent for quality, would recommend.

Roselilly36 · 14/06/2022 05:19

Based on my experience I would steer well clear of Furniture Village, the sofas we ordered from there were bad quality, nothing like the quality of the showroom model. If you are making a purchase take the credit option or pay by cc, it will give you financial protection if something goes wrong.

mrsjackrussell · 14/06/2022 05:23

Have a look at Life at Living room. Beautiful handmade sofas that will last. I want one.

Baxter, knoll or minotti

So you need to get an ex-display model from them.

We bought a sofa from sofa sofa last year and have been very happy with the service an the sofa itself.

OxanaVorontsova · 14/06/2022 05:49

We recently bought a couple of these although the colour we got is no longer showing here. Very comfy, stylish and retain their shape well.

thx all, so helpful and useful info. indeed I had had an Ikea Ektorp beforehand and was much in fond of it, sad that they don't offer in leather. now in struggles among those, any thoughts?

Mine is from Habitat - it's 3 years old and still going fine, despite an international move and the bloody cat 🐱.
