What does my bedroom need to be less bla?

Recently painted our bedroom, I live the colour, it's just the right balance between colourful and calming IMO, but somehow it seems a little flat.

I'm not sure what the room needs, maybe some plants? An accent colour? A statement or two somewhere? All ideas gratefully received.

It needs curtains.

It has a plain white blind, I'm keen on curtains or at least a patterned blind. Any suggestions for colours / etc?

I think a different colour duvet cover would go a long way. Something either one colour or a big bold pattern in a contrasting colour, maybe a burnt orange colour?

And a rug on the floor of a similar colour?

Love the walls though!

I have a pig shelf full of pictures and a couple of plants above my bed. It definitely makes the room look less bland. A floor plant, floor standing mirror and curtains.

ScottishStottie · 18/06/2020 10:22

I know its not an easy or cheap fix, but i dont think the mismatched furniture or the wardrobe doors are helping. Matching bedside units and lamps, and more modern wardrobe doors would really help lif the room i think.

MaidenMotherCrone · 18/06/2020 10:23

Different bedding. Some curtains and something on the walls. I'd paint your bed and drawers so they went together. Frenchic paints are very good.

AriettyHomily · 18/06/2020 10:23

Curtains, white bed frame - could you paint yours? I'd also like to match the bedside lights and cabinets.

PLEASE post a pic of your “pig shelf” Grin

Looking again it might just be the wardrobe doorhandles that look dated, maybe changing the handles would lift them a bit?

LoafingLiz · 18/06/2020 10:24

I love the colour, ours is very similar.
The bed needs colour. We've got teal and mustard bedding on at the moment which really pops.

TimeWastingButFun · 18/06/2020 10:25

An ornate white wrought iron headboard, lots of cushions, and curtains

HeronLanyon · 18/06/2020 10:28

I see what you mean. A colourful blanket/eiderdown/bed cover at bottom of bed (keep the white bedding). Plus colourful cushion on that chair. Chair pulled out from wall a bit. Quite a bit of art/photos on walls
It’s a Nice colour. Everything needs some difference of colour/texture. Books. To my eye it all looks empty. But that’s subjective.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 18/06/2020 10:28

Big shelf, not pig shelf 🤦

Cherrytangfastic · 18/06/2020 10:28

Some nice wallpaper on the one wall behind the bed- bit of a faff though!

Radiator cabinets make a huge difference

Different bedding, maybe with a small amount of bold colour through it

They are lovely colour walls

NowIKnowWhataTVDinnerFeelsLike · 18/06/2020 10:32

Love the wall colour. I agree that sorting the soft furnishings would help - curtains and a eiderdown/throw on the bed. Also how about painting the ceiling, or at least the sloped bits, the same colour as the wall. I have some sloping ceilings and tend to paint them in the wall colours - makes the room feel more 'contained' and gives the colour more punch. If I were you I'd also consider painting the woodwork (esp the wardrobe) another colour - personally I'd go for a very dark blue.

Would you paint the bed frame and/or get a nice covered headboard? I think the bed needs to be more of a feature as it looks a bit forgotten

Thecazelets · 18/06/2020 10:42

I would make more of the bed - some square pillows propped against the headboard behind the ordinary ones, a throw or quilt across the bottom third.

MiniTheMinx · 18/06/2020 10:42

I think the bed would look better painted white. Curtains would make a huge difference. I wouldn't go for clashing colours but colours that are within the same range of colours and have the same depth of colour.

Also one or more pictures above the headboard to anchor it a bit.

AmelieTaylor · 18/06/2020 10:45

It's a lovely colour.

I would use Annie Sloan paint & paint the bed/laundry basket white
Put new handles on the wardrobes
White linen on the bed with maybe a navy blanket across the bottom

Can you tidy the area with the chair? Put a throw & cushion on it and a small book shelf between the chair & the radiator books on the shelves and a plant on the top & a nice coaster for your tea/wine.

bowtieandheels · 18/06/2020 10:46

Statement lamps and hanging plants 👍

CMMum88 · 18/06/2020 10:46

Dress the bed, it needs a throw and cushions. Nice fancy lamps. A plant. Better art.

Lily2020 · 18/06/2020 10:47

Cushions on the bed will make a big difference 😊
