So I have the french style console tables so I can’t have a modern shelf or anything, and if I put a tv cabinet there it will be too much. What’s your thoughts?

I’m going to sell the consoles and move the mirrors to the bathroom 😂

@avroroad I will be taking away the consoles so this unit will be the only thing there. It’s a large room can’t tell on the pics so I think the unit won’t over power it.

I was going to suggest a simple french country style fire screen to stand in front of the sockets.
Then I read the rest of the thread.

FlamedToACrisp · 12/05/2020 01:41

something like this?

What would you do with these bloody plugs?
BitOfFun · 12/05/2020 01:41

I've just sent you a PM, Life.

snappybitch · 12/05/2020 02:06

Two mirrors facing couch ? So you can stare at yourself staring at the tv. What the f?

Lifeisconfusing · 12/05/2020 02:08

@snappybitch nah you can’t see yourself in the mirror when watching tv. I did it for effect not to look at myself thats for sure 😂

  • @BasiliskStare Thankyou. I thinking of going with a glass cabinet under tv then putting my chair on an angle where one of the console are and maybe just a lamp table on the other side*

Don't do glass cabinet. We've got one with the TV on. It looks lovely but my god it's a dust catcher!!! I have to dust it every day. I'm a bit OCD with clean and tidy, but that cabinet does my head in!!

BasiliskStare · 12/05/2020 05:55

Oh sorry just saw the bit where you have already bought the new glass cabinet. I think your new chair arrangement from what I can understand will make it seem cosier - & if you are up to cleaning / dusting glass cabinet - fabulous. But then will the window bit look a bit bare ? is it a bay window - i.e. could you put one of the tables in there ( I think a pp has suggested it. ) or a slimmer console table or similar. Love your house having been on a TV programme - did you win ?

FamilyOfAliens · 12/05/2020 07:39

Apologies OP - for some reason I thought it must be a rental property because I thought if you owned the property, you would just remove those plugs if you didn’t like them or need to use them.

So I thought it would be ok to say it was unusual because I assumed it had been decorated by someone else and you were trying to make the best with the furniture you had.

PegasusReturns · 12/05/2020 07:46

Why don’t you try putting one of the consoles in the bay window, with some of your bits and pieces on it, then pull the chair forward so it’s part of a defined seating area combined with the sofa.

You could position the foot stool as a coffee table if big enough.

Once the tv cabinet has arrived I think that set up will look more “together”. The space to the left of the TV could be filled with some plants: a tall parlour palms or similar and two others of varying heights in pots/baskets will add some texture. Stick a picture at eye height and that’s that area done.

What’s the view of the wall opposite the window? You could possibly put the second console table there.

Whatever you do avoid a long stretch of console-unit/console.

PegasusReturns · 12/05/2020 07:50

I’ve just taken another look and it’s not a bay window but I’d give the console table a try there in any event.

It’s difficult to tell how much space you have because of the perspective but it looks like a big room and you’ve fallen into the common trap of pushing everything to the outer edges.

LevoMental · 12/05/2020 07:51

I like your living room, but I'd remove the mirrors above the tables and shift things about so it's less symetrical - I think that's what's making it look hotel-ish.

If you removed one or both tables altogether and got one long, low surface for under the tv that would look better.

Could you swap one console table with the armchair/ footstool?

I wouldn't go with a mirrored table under the tv - if you're looking in that direction alot the fingerprints will drive you up the wall! Try some of those fancy storage chests stacked up?

Your kitchen is gorgeous, where is the clock from?

madcatladyforever · 12/05/2020 08:16

I like the room, I think it looks lovely. What about an antique fire screen. This is an Edwardian one but you can get all eras or reproductions and low wide ones, they are nice as a decoration not just for a fire.
I don't think the plugs look awful though.

hopeishere · 12/05/2020 08:22

It's all a bit flamboyant for a ordinary modern house! The massive things overwhelm the small spaces.

However if you like it then that's fine!

Get rid of the consoles and mirrors and put in a single unit. Leave the space. You don't have to cram stuff everywhere. Less stuff will make it look bigger. If you took the pink rug away the sitting room would look bigger.

Lifeisconfusing · 12/05/2020 10:15

@PegasusReturns it is a bay window . It’s a square one

Did you ask for a critique of your decorating from all the budding home design experts?

How embarrassing that those posters thought that their comments were acceptable. I hope you ignored them op.

Lifeisconfusing · 12/05/2020 10:32

@BasiliskStare have you got a pic

@Bojohair It’s a good job I’m taking it all with a light heart. Ha ha

I'd also recommend a footstool to cover the plugs.

I'd say the only major problem is the mirrors. They need to go. The tables are nice.

It may not be my personal taste but then most other people's houses aren't! It doesn't matter because it's your taste and you're the one living in it.

It's a lovely room and I also like the chair and footstool in the bay window - we have a window seat built into in ours.

Bojohair · 12/05/2020 10:37

@Lifeisconfusing good for you Flowers

Lifeisconfusing · 12/05/2020 10:40

@PegasusReturns thanks for your ideas.

If anyone has any pics of there living room tv ideas?? Grin

Lifeisconfusing my taste is very different to yours but it would be a very dull world if we all liked the same things.

I'm awestruck by how pristine you keep your home, it puts me to shame!

And your grace and good humour puts mean spirited bitchploppers to shame.
