So I have the french style console tables so I can’t have a modern shelf or anything, and if I put a tv cabinet there it will be too much. What’s your thoughts?

Personally I enjoy modern/minimalist style so I’m not a fan of the combination of light fittings, crushed velvet furniture & the pink accents. Your kitchen is lovely as it’s more my taste!

I agree that the set up of tables & mirrors in your living room make it look more like a bedroom/beauty room/salon. If you took the settee out of your 2nd photo, I’d assume it was a bedroom.

I would add a clean/modern table under the tv and then just chuck some massive plants on either side - like a 6ft faux bamboo plant. I’d also tone down the amount of pink accents

@BitOfFun 🤣🤣
@BruceAndNosh thanks I will take that after all the other funny comments ☺️☺️

Put one console in the bay with the footstool under it, pulling the armchair forward. Move the other console under the TV.

That costs nothing. See how it feels to live with it. If you like it you can consider replacing the console with a more regular tv unit/sideboard...you could get a french style one - someone posted it above - to keep your theme going.

What I want to know is, where is all your crap?
You've got 3 children there must be crap

SebThompson · 12/05/2020 01:09

The TV unit is still the easiest method to put into place and also most versatile to change in future, also most useful probably.

I do have another idea which could look good if done well, but installing a floating shelf (you can get similar styles as your tables) either 1 above with a few ornaments ontop but also something to hang and cover the sockets, which I'm not quite sure what you could use with the style of your room, but you can get fake plants which overhang shelves (don't think this will suit your style) or multiple shelves with 1 below the sockets with ornaments or perhaps pictures on frames to cover the sockets.

If you do shelves just be careful of wiring when drilling.

@BruceAndNosh yeah we have toys but I clear then away when there in bed etc

I’m going to sell those console tables and I’m going to put the mirrors in my bathroom. I will post the new living room when I’m done. ☺️

@lifeisconfusing if you did get a unit also, I would say the side tables would still work as they are, especially if the unit is equal to or larger than the side tables. If you went for a shorter unit I'm not sure if it would look out of place

Lifeisconfusing · 12/05/2020 01:14

@SebThompson Thankyou you seem lovely 😊

Ooooh, there are some harsh comments on this thread! Take no notice, OP - you keep the tables if you're fond of them; they're pretty. I like your lovely big elegant sofa.

I think I'd hide the plugs with a little trunk or storage box, or a coffee table.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 12/05/2020 01:15

I think the mirrored unit definitely suits your style!

I’m really interested in seeing your new living room!

Lifeisconfusing · 12/05/2020 01:15

@SebThompson I think it would be too much (units) if you get me. I’m totally out of by the side tables now anyway ha ha my dh is going to love this 😱

Oh just seen your dining chairs so may be this one would be better for you www.thedormyhouse.com/empire-ottoman-deep-buttoned-lid

I have the small filing ottoman - I have a v small house and this is by my desk in sitting room with hanging files etc.

Also when I got mine - they would cover it in any fabric of your choice as long as you send it to them. It has been a boon. Anyway - if the idea doesn't work you can use it for storing hair dryers etc .

Oh I am joking - I honestly would not have thought of the bedroom / hairdresser idea just looking at your photos. But you are very very neat. Either you have no clutter or you need one of these things to store it in.

Anyway - enough - hope it has given you another idea to think about

SebThompson · 12/05/2020 01:18

Will you be replacing the side tables with anything if you get the unit? I feel as though if you got rid completely along with the mirrors then your wall may look a bit bare

BasiliskStare · 12/05/2020 01:22

Oops sorry thread quicker than my typing - I would just leave the tables and bleach your brain to get rid of hairdresser idea and get an ottoman where small childrens' toys can be shoved. Grin Flowers

ZingyLime · 12/05/2020 01:28

We had the same problem, and also didn't want any cables showing.
We built a floor to ceiling frame about 3 inches deep and a couple of inches wider on both sides than the tv (from 2x2 and plywood) and fitted it to the wall where the tv is. Where the tv bracket needed to go was a large hole so the tv was still attached to the wall safely. Then we wallpapered it in a complementary design to the rest of the room. The cables go through the hole and down to the plugs, access to the plugs is from the less viewed side through a little disguised panel. There is coving to the top and skirting to the bottom.
It looks like a very shallow chimney breast without the fireplace. And because it only takes one roll of wallpaper I can ring the changes regularly by redoing it and mixing in a couple of new cushions in matching colours etc. Since you like the 'grand' look (and a touch Parisienne) you could really go for a statement wallpaper there, embrace the flock!
Since your tv is right in line of sight as you walk into your room, imperative to hide the cables.
I'd post a photo but I'm at work.

ArabSprings · 12/05/2020 01:28

We got this for under our tv. Looks great now and hides all the plugs we don’t need

There are much cheaper ones from around £200+ Which look just as good

avroroad · 12/05/2020 01:32

I wouldn't clutter it up with a huge unit simply because you don't want to see the sockets. Seems like an exaggeration.

Lifeisconfusing · 12/05/2020 01:34

Right Iv randomly just bought this. I think this is the look I liked when I was waiting to move in. I’m going for this unit going to put the pink chair one side and something else on the other 🙂really appreciate everything you’ve helped so much and Iv had fun getting this from strangers.
