Do I keep this golden ceiling?

This is not a joke, this is my actual kitchen ceiling.
We bought the house last year with the intention of redoing the kitchen, but now the time has come around to plan the new one, I find myself oddly sentimental about it.
I mean it's hideous obviously, but maybe with a matt black kitchen it could work? It's a good talking point at the very least.
What would you do?

Do I keep this golden ceiling?

God no paint it white

TheHumanMothboy · 03/04/2018 19:31

Wow! That is very, very special [snigger]

Sorry...I can't even advise on that.

SleepFreeZone · 03/04/2018 19:32

RIP it down and get rid of the wood altogether.

0hCrepe · 03/04/2018 19:32

I’d keep it. I love a bit of gold and I think it reflects the light a bit. Their choice of units is really odd though!

MaryPoppinsStoleMyHandbag · 03/04/2018 19:33

Is it plastic? It’s very reflective Grin give yourself a shake and get rid.

Waitinforaflamin · 03/04/2018 19:34

I like it BlushGrin. I would however just have a plain white kitchen installed and maybe some white marble. I must say it’s a bit odd and doesn’t really fit with the existing kitchen....

FlaminYon · 03/04/2018 19:34

It's not to my taste but if you like it what does it matter what others think? Will you only be doing the black kitchen if you decide to keep the gold or black kitchen definitely decided no matter what? If the latter, then get the kitchen done before removing the gold and see how if feels then. If you don't like it, it goes.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 03/04/2018 19:35

I think it's wonderful! I think I would have to keep it!

Whisky2014 · 03/04/2018 19:35

I'm just coming on again to say...honestly..paint it white. It will look good then.

Ylvamoon · 03/04/2018 19:35

Black Units and Gold Ceiling... a Boudoir Kitchen!!

HoorayForHolidays · 03/04/2018 19:36

That's so weird. Why on earth did they do that?

jazzandh · 03/04/2018 19:36

i think it really depends on what you would actually like....

If you LIKE the ceiling then you are going to have to design around it in someway and could look quite spectacular - does it fit in with any other schemes within your house or your own personal decorating style?

If you really hanker after a country cottage style kitchen or indeed...live in a country cottage - then it needs to go :-)

PerfectlyDone · 03/04/2018 19:37

What on earth is it made of? Plastic strips??
Get rid!

I thought it might be tasteful old gold paint... Blush

ConsistentInsomniac · 03/04/2018 19:38

It’d definitely be a talking point. I didn’t know you could get gold ceilings.

Bluntness100 · 03/04/2018 19:38

Well I wouldn't go for a black kitchen, it will make it tacky as hell. Something like you'd imagine peter stringfellow to have. However I'd prob keep it, it's not like it's a life time commitment. Might be ok with cream or white units.

Knittedfairies · 03/04/2018 19:38

Well.... that’s...wield.

sirlee66 · 03/04/2018 19:41

I like it, OP! I vote keep!

CuckingFunt1987 · 03/04/2018 19:48

I love it ! Defo keep it !

DBoo · 03/04/2018 19:50

Love it. Keep it.

0hCrepe · 03/04/2018 19:50

Have it with dark mid century modern wood, but straight lines -this sort of colour scheme

NeedMoreTea · 03/04/2018 19:52

I think it's fantastically unique. I'd keep it.

Navy/grey blue units might go better than black.

MarmiteTermite · 03/04/2018 19:52

I like it too! What is it made from?

Si1ver · 03/04/2018 19:54

Oh my. That's hideous!

yasmin0147 · 03/04/2018 19:54

I quite like it, never thought I’d say that about a gold ceiling

purpleunicorns · 03/04/2018 19:56

I really like it Blush
