Do I keep this golden ceiling?

This is not a joke, this is my actual kitchen ceiling.
We bought the house last year with the intention of redoing the kitchen, but now the time has come around to plan the new one, I find myself oddly sentimental about it.
I mean it's hideous obviously, but maybe with a matt black kitchen it could work? It's a good talking point at the very least.
What would you do?

Do I keep this golden ceiling?

Both weird and awesome! I mean... it's fucking ugly but I think I would keep it!

All the best parties happen in the kitchen and that's definitely a party ceiling!

PerfectlyDone · 03/04/2018 20:00

Oh, I like the mid-century wood furniture idea or nave cabinets - matt, not gloss.
Could be a great party kitchen Smile

NapQueen · 03/04/2018 20:01

I particularly like the invisible dining table.

WowserBowser · 03/04/2018 20:03

I totally understand your predicament. I am not a bling fan but totes agree with giveitfive

EightdaysaweekIloveu · 03/04/2018 20:04

Gold is coming back in trend. It would work with a white kitchen with thin gold handles and a darker floor. Will come back with some images when I get time.

What material is it?

NapQueen · 03/04/2018 20:04

I think if the cupboards were a bottle green and the walls a very floral paper it could work

MrsMoastyToasty · 03/04/2018 20:04

Does it make you feel slightly seasick?
I'd want to know what it's hiding.

bonnyshide · 03/04/2018 20:05

No it's really awful.

bonnyshide · 03/04/2018 20:06

@NapQueen Grin

BlondeB83 · 03/04/2018 20:06

It's hilarious! Keep it and get a shiny black kitchen with gold knobs! And a gold sink!

TattyFrench · 03/04/2018 20:08

I love it! It's almost too strange to be true. Are you in France?

GrabbyMcGrabby · 03/04/2018 20:11

I would keep it for a while for the novelty factor.

Love it/hate it in equal measures!

Graduate223 · 03/04/2018 20:13

I like it as it’s unique.

MsHomeSlice · 03/04/2018 20:14

it's deliciously AWFUL!!

I think you have to keep it.

PretABoire · 03/04/2018 20:16

It’s awful and hilarious, it would make me so happy.. keep it!

QuilliamCakespeare · 03/04/2018 20:17

It's absolute lunacy. I like it. I think I'd keep it and go for a lovely black worktop.

Kocerhan3 · 03/04/2018 20:18

Character is one word for it... I'm picturing toning it down with a white stencil pattern or something tbh so it becomes like a gold Mandela - keep the quirky, keep the story but lose the eye sore. Please let us know what you decide?!

beargrass · 03/04/2018 20:19

Wow! Why did they put in such a fancy ceiling and such an everyday kitchen? The kitchen needs to keep pace. Ceilings stays, rest goes black and gold! Star

LaurieFairyCake · 03/04/2018 20:19

It’s fucking mental! AND I would also find it hard to get rid of!

Why the fuck do I like it ?!?

Have you fucking HYPNOTISED me?

JesusTapdancingChrist · 03/04/2018 20:19

Oh my god I love it 😍

Embrace your inner Liberace OP. You can't get rid of it!

mrsBeverleyGoldberg · 03/04/2018 20:19

In years to come people will describe it as a beautiful original feature...
I'd have to keep it.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 03/04/2018 20:20

RavenLG · 03/04/2018 20:20

I thought my other pink, wallpapered ceiling in the living room was something. Wow.

BettyBaggins · 03/04/2018 20:24

Go full on kitsch! Its amazing! Odd that the kitchen seens so much more normal.
