Do I keep this golden ceiling?

This is not a joke, this is my actual kitchen ceiling.
We bought the house last year with the intention of redoing the kitchen, but now the time has come around to plan the new one, I find myself oddly sentimental about it.
I mean it's hideous obviously, but maybe with a matt black kitchen it could work? It's a good talking point at the very least.
What would you do?

Keep it! Life is too boring Grin

UpOver · 04/04/2018 09:58

I'm not suprised that's not in the UK.

I love it and yet I hate it too. I think Shifty s suggestion might work.

Bloomed · 04/04/2018 11:57

Metal! Shock
But I now really want a softly glowing gold ceiling.

Do I keep this golden ceiling?
PerfectlyDone · 05/04/2018 21:17

It's made of metal

OMG, it's made of real gold?! Shock
You must of course keep it. Or melt it down and make it in to golden chain mail Grin

Oddgirlout · 05/04/2018 21:27

Another vote for navy cabinets and to encroach the cornicing (sp??) to frame it like in the dining room picture. Also an amazing light fitting surely?

ILookedintheWater · 05/04/2018 21:31

If you like it, keep it. It is a talking point. It is unusual. It isn't the height of fashion. Who needs a height of fashion kitchen?

Scentofwater · 05/04/2018 21:40

No, not navy, you need a soft mint green kitchen with that ceiling. Navy would be too harsh.

I need a gold ceiling now.

dimsum123 · 05/04/2018 21:42

Keep it! And yes black units as a contrast would look amazingly.

MessySurfaces · 05/04/2018 21:46

Crikey hereshoping! That's a ...err... find!

FuckingHateRain · 05/04/2018 21:53

MrsDilber · 05/04/2018 21:59

Woahhh now Nelly, never seen anything like that before, it's like king Midas payed them a visit.

Siuscia · 05/04/2018 22:12

Hereshoping, those are great, they look like oversized Jacob's crackers.

Ketzele · 06/04/2018 18:49

Statement ceilings are on trend, gold kitchens are on trend - you've nailed it!

I agree with others that the way to go is a matt navy or grey kitchen, with minimalist brass handles. Please don't add anything else shiny, or any other strong colours, and no white!

UpOver · 06/04/2018 20:46

I've got to say this is the best ever opening line for a thread

This is not a joke, this is my actual kitchen ceiling.

It's too funny 😂

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 06/04/2018 20:55

Has noone asked?.....

...So, have you had sex on the kitchen table/worktops and viewed your arse shagging?

Because that seems to me the primary function of reflective ceilings

Pannacott · 06/04/2018 21:06

I'm a fan. Definitely keep.

PerfectlyDone · 10/04/2018 20:55

Look what I found during recent travels - Frankfurt/Main airport in Germany Grin

OP, you are ahead of the trend curve!

trixymalixy · 12/04/2018 22:19

It’s amazing. Please keep it!

Mammasmitten · 13/04/2018 12:53

I like the navy and white idea. I think that would look nice. I also think red looks nice with gold too. Here's a link to red walls and gold ceiling in a dining room. I couldn't copy paste picture for some reason goo.gl/images/SPPMGE

YeahAndThenWhat · 14/04/2018 16:35

I think white and wood would look best as shown in the photo below.

WhereDoLostSocksGo · 14/04/2018 16:39

i love the golden ceilin id have to find a way to keep it

wonkylegs · 15/04/2018 11:32

Reminds me of a rather ostentatious gold kitchen in a house I photographed in Bel Air when I was working in LA.
It was a giant mansion that was so over the top, they had a gleaming SS working kitchen for the staff and an ornate baroque style kitchen where all the cupboards were in ornate relief gold leaf for the family.
They definitely had more money than taste.
