Do I keep this golden ceiling?

This is not a joke, this is my actual kitchen ceiling.
We bought the house last year with the intention of redoing the kitchen, but now the time has come around to plan the new one, I find myself oddly sentimental about it.
I mean it's hideous obviously, but maybe with a matt black kitchen it could work? It's a good talking point at the very least.
What would you do?

Did you buy it from someone called L. Llewllyn-Bowen maybe?

fleshmarketclose · 03/04/2018 21:18

I would have to keep it, it's so different.

agentdaisy · 03/04/2018 21:18

At first I thought it looked hideous but it's grown on me already Grin

This is a dining room but the colours look great together.

Black units would look tacky (and be a pita to keep clean) but matte navy would look amazing.

The white units that shifty posted with navy tiles and walls would look brilliant.

bikingintherain · 03/04/2018 21:23

DH suggests getting a silver floor to go with it.

mistermagpie · 03/04/2018 21:27

God it's awful obviously but I love it! Navy and cream would look amazing or the mid-century wooden stuff that someone posted. I couldn't get rid of it.

PerfectlyDone · 03/04/2018 21:29

agentdaisy, that room looks amazing, but it does have the lovely dull-gold ceiling, rather than shiny-bling gold plastic-fantastic stuff that seems to be the OP's kitchen ceiling Grin

Please come back to confirm what your ceiling is actually made of, OP, please I am begging you! Smile

windchimesabotage · 03/04/2018 21:32

YES please keep it its great. Its the cupboards and the white walls that are bringing it down.... and the tiles. Im sure theres lots you could do to make it more tasteful but still keep the amazing ceiling. The ceiling is the best bit! I think black or at least some darker colours would work very well with it.

Ollivander84 · 03/04/2018 21:32

KEEP IT! Agree with navy to go with it

beargrass · 03/04/2018 21:35

Anyone else wondering how/where to get a gold ceiling now..? Would it work in a hallway? 🤔

windchimesabotage · 03/04/2018 21:36

I wish I wasnt renting because I want to paint everything gold now :-(

Might look okay with a 1920s or a blue kitchen?

yorkshireyummymummy · 03/04/2018 21:43

Please don’t follow the sheeples who say get rid of it.
It’s fab because it’s so so different.
I love some of the ideas people are coming up with.
Keep it, be brave and different!
It’s an amazing talking point!! And please please please post a picture of how it looks re vamped!!

AdaColeman · 03/04/2018 21:48

I think you need a glitter ball or two in there, as a finishing touch. Glitterball

MessySurfaces · 03/04/2018 21:59

Well who'd have thunk it, Mumsnet loves a gold ceiling!
I'm in the fan club too- keep it!!! Agree that navy is the way to go, unless it will make the ceiling look plasticky and cheapo, in which case not sure...

TheHumanMothboy · 03/04/2018 22:05

Actually, thinking about it, it would go with black units and a malachite worktop.

Whatdoiladymcbeth · 03/04/2018 22:05

I love it.

oigetoffmycheese · 03/04/2018 22:05

I bloody love it. In fact I'm now googling gold ceilings. Dying to know what it's made of.

Bluntness100 · 03/04/2018 22:09

I think that's why I'd keep it too, it's just so different and unique. It would be a shame to paint over it. I'm not sure I'd build my kitchen round it, I think many units will go with it, but I'd keep it till I get properly sick of it. I would though get handless units.🤣

Bluntness100 · 03/04/2018 22:09

Handleless

GoJohnnyGoGoGoGo · 03/04/2018 22:18

No, rip it off, skim it and paint it matt white.

ShiftyMcGifty · 03/04/2018 22:27

I’m imagining a kitchen like this with your gold ceiling
