Do I keep this golden ceiling?

This is not a joke, this is my actual kitchen ceiling.
We bought the house last year with the intention of redoing the kitchen, but now the time has come around to plan the new one, I find myself oddly sentimental about it.
I mean it's hideous obviously, but maybe with a matt black kitchen it could work? It's a good talking point at the very least.
What would you do?

Do I keep this golden ceiling?

Love it, but then again I am a fan of ‘rock & roll’ style interiors, and Rockett St. George etc... I’d like it with emerald green accents (marble? Splash back tiles?).

Bloody show off. Our new ceilings on closer inspection are polystyrene. Gah.

Ladies, we are ditching the ceiling. In my head I am super stylish and could totally make it work with a matt navy kitchen with brass accents and Rockett st George style accents. In reality.... I'm quite vanilla. We are putting in a white Bodbyn kitchen with wooden worktops.
I'm so sorry, I feel I've let you all down Sad

I'd keep the ceiling and have the rest of the kitchen done to contrast...but I'm glad you are having it all done to your own taste, OP.

I think you've made the right decision tbh. In the right hands that ceiling could be styled perfectly. In the wrong hands (ie most people, including myself) it will just fuck over the beautiful kitchen you put in and you'll shake your head in despair every time you come in the room.

SeriousSass · 26/05/2018 08:59

I'd have done the same!

It's fun but it's very very very good!

SeriousSass · 26/05/2018 09:00

I meant gold not good

Badoukas · 26/05/2018 09:05

I've seen a few black kitchens really holding house sales back. No to the black kitchen .

MinaPaws · 26/05/2018 09:08

No. You don't. Anywhere but the kitchen it could look dramatic but in an 80s style nana's kitchen it just looks bonkers.

Liaoyang · 26/05/2018 09:14

Wise choice but maybe you can reuse the metal on your bedroom ceiling Grin

greendale17 · 26/05/2018 09:23

What a hideous kitchen

Giggorata · 26/05/2018 10:03

Wow! Only just seen this... I would be thinking about navy or bottle green units, too, but I see it's going.. can't blame you, as it is a bit mad. You might want to keep the photos forever, though.

MessySurfaces · 26/05/2018 10:55

Noooooo!!!!
Obvs your house your choice so don't listen to a bunch of goons on the internet who have never even seen it in the flesh. But can't you just try it with the white kitchen and then remove of it doesn't work? Just for us? ....

beargrass · 26/05/2018 18:57

Keeping it or no, I have certainly not abandoned the idea myself!! Good luck OP - hope you enjoy your kitchen

Mosaic123 · 27/05/2018 08:58

Perhaps you can relocate part of it elsewhere in your home? A guest loo perhaps or an ensuite?
