Looking for inspiration as to what to put on a long window ledge in the living room. There are only so many candlesticks and flowering plants one can use. What interesting art can I put on there? Or what else? I look in the shops and just see a pile of wank. What is tasteful and timeless?

We don't have anything on the main one. On the two side window ledges we have copper glass storm lanterns with led candles in them. The copper goes with the fire hood.

Small decorative boxes, photo frames and a variety of plants on mine! Have you tried TK Maxx?

wallyfeatures · 18/09/2017 09:43

wowfudge That sounds lovely. We have such a long window ledge I just don't know what to do. It has a couple of orchids on there and a lattern but because it is quite low it is just a dumping ground for kids' stuff.

MamaJaye I like the photo frames idea but but gets direct sunlight for most of the day so I think it would fade them terribly. Sadly our nearest TK Maxx is nearly two hours drive away. I guess I'm after some nice sculptures. Back to the drawing board.

I keep them clear not to obstruct the view and the light. Small decorative items tend to be in shelves or the mantlepiece.

OverinaFlash · 19/09/2017 13:34

How about an wide shallow bowl, decorative glass etc for ornamental effect (depends on how deep the ledge is of course)? Can always fill it with water and put floating candles in when you're sitting in there.

Veronicat · 19/09/2017 13:39

Spider plant's. Hundreds of the buggers!
And on the really really long one, Geraniums.

MissDuke · 29/09/2017 21:50

There's nothing on my large bay window sill but I really don't like ornaments.

GertiesEyebrow · 29/09/2017 21:51

Nothing. Nice and clear.

LoniceraJaponica · 29/09/2017 21:54

Another nothing here. I dislike stuff on windowsills. It gets in the way, blocks the light and traps dust.

We don't have a living room. The winter sitting room has a couple of photos of the family. The summer sitting room doesn't really have window ledges as such so nothing obstructing light. We don't have ornaments of any sort. I have fresh flowers on entrance hall desk, kitchen window ledge and vestibule cupboard and in summer sitting room table always.

Chewbecca · 29/09/2017 21:59

Nothing at all. I don't like toot.

Snap8TheCat · 29/09/2017 22:02

My god. Could that be any more pretentious?! Grin

Mistressiggi · 29/09/2017 22:03

I was just thinking about this tonight amazed anyone else is! For me the item/s will be more visible from outside than in so I have just gone for a nice flowery plant pot. Could get kids to make sculptures in playdoh I suppose!

Crumbs do you have many visitors to your sitting rooms or does everyone think you have pretentiousness coming out of your arse and avoid?

Ruhrpott · 29/09/2017 22:03

The cat doesn’t like anything being on her windowsills

Longdistance · 29/09/2017 22:04

We just have photos in frames, and at the moment birthday cards.

Bloomed · 29/09/2017 22:06

I don't blame your cat ruhrpott. That's a gorgeous view.

Alexindisguise · 29/09/2017 22:07

We have conkers and leaves in the autumn sitting room and bulbs in the spring one. Sorry Wink

Bluntness100 · 29/09/2017 22:08

Summer sitting room = conservatory
Winter sitting room = normal living room

Just curious Grin

What is a fish fork?

Alexindisguise · 29/09/2017 22:26

Thierry they're kept in the same place as grape scissors.

donajimena · 29/09/2017 22:27

AnneGrommit · 29/09/2017 22:29

I think Crumbs1 is Mrs Dalloway.

(Either that or a massive twat.)

my living room (if you must call it that) ledges are modelled on a Parisian hotel. Some would call them ‘exact replicas’, in fact. HTH
