Looking for inspiration as to what to put on a long window ledge in the living room. There are only so many candlesticks and flowering plants one can use. What interesting art can I put on there? Or what else? I look in the shops and just see a pile of wank. What is tasteful and timeless?

A puddle of water where the roof leaks at the moment....

"Whoa! How did ya learn to fight like that?"

"Prison changes a man..."

I know! They do have one nice recipe tho that was a crumpet with berries and honey on it.
I still prefer crumpet a la justdon't

Put crumpet in toaster till evenly toasted.
Put a fuck tonne of butter on it.

Autumnal I did actually used to live in a very old house with a window seat. I made it all cosy and cushioned and imagined myself looking all Jane Austin reading a book by lamplight, looking out over the fields....

In reality it was bloody uncomfortable - no amount of cushions make it comfortable to lean on a window. And it was cold.

Sounds like the perfect diet book that me.
Sorry I even considered doubting it.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 01/10/2017 18:08

Autumnal. You'd have to crow bar me out of there. Once I'd changed the fabric & added a couple of soft grey blankets.

Rup. Georgous pictures of your cats & beautiful views.

I don't have anything on mine, I prefer them clear - but I'm a minimalist. My friends sister is always trying to get me to put ornaments around & stuff on the walls etc she says it looks like I've just moved in 🤣 I'm polite enough not to tell her that hers looks like a charity shop on donation day 😂

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/10/2017 18:14

Actually, I just realised I lied.
I have conkers on mine, as barricades again the spiders outside.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 01/10/2017 18:19

I have spiders on mine, as defence against conkers.

I don't think your going to top the cat

One thing I really missed when living in France was not having any windowsills. The windows there all open inwards because of the shutters.
Now we live in a really old house with thick stone walls and deep window ledges. I love it —even if they are just used for depositing crap—

AutumnalLeaves38 · 01/10/2017 18:23

BadTasteFlump,

Shh...don't ruin my illusions!
Rather than leaning on the window itself, I was thinking I'd pile some proper, supportive cushions against the near wall we can't see; the far one has shelving.

I'm lucky as well because window draughts don't bother me, so I'd just wrap up with some soft throws, possibly a heated under blanket... Grin

ILikeyourHairyHands · 01/10/2017 18:23

I actually have ornamental cabbages.

Not in my vestibule though. It's a cabbage-free zone.

I have a miniature felted yurt that DH brought me back from his trans Siberian railway adventure a few years ago.

It's in my winter sitting room obviously. Whoever heard of a felted yurt in the summer sitting room? Grin

Vera could take both Colin and Mexican Pete.

Proper 'ard is Vera.

She would charm them with her feminine wiles...the standoff would be over Vera's beauty. Then she'd laugh mercilessly as they fell into the dust...

OP,

Depending on how narrow/deep your ledges are, I quite like these indoor succulent planters covering an entire sill surface. (Obviously not suitable if yours are beautiful wood or something you like to keep on show).

Nice clean lines, and no loss of view/light.

Your sunny ledge would be ideal.

I like that planter

Mine are lovely and deep and are an extra play area/ toy storage at present

Once DD grows a bit I would like plants and maybe Moroccan style hanging stained glass tea light holders and a couple of large stone or cast iron animal figures

What happened to my thread?! I'd written it off as a non-starter and now see it pop up under active convos. Love seeing the kittykats - sadly my boy is a bit of a shit and tends to knock stuff of the window sills instead of basking in the sun quietly as all cats should.

Whoever suggested glass jars with bits i - wow that looks beautiful. Just going to go back and continue reading as only got as far as page three and was distracted by some fish forks......

Just seen the gorgeous windowseat set up posted by AutumnalLeaves38. Sadlky my arse would not fit on the width of sill we have available so not a possible solution. Willing to stop eating though so I could have a skinny version.

AutumnalLeaves38 loving those planters. And I'd like to see the kids try and deposit crap on them. I'd make sure as to procure the spikiest bastard cacti this side of Mexico. Have you thought about being an interior designer - you certainly seem to have the right ideas. Thanks!

Nothing on our windowsills as we had shutters installed so there's no room. It has pissed the cat right off as he can't sit and lie on them anymore.
