Edinburgh. All day, every day. No contest.

Raspberried · 03/12/2024 07:22

Cambridge

Edinburgh. Pure stunner. Count myself lucky to live here every day on the journey to work.

York

York

Agree

It's more pockets of beauty than overall beauty. And so many cities have them, even if they rub alongside eyesores. So I guess I would want to give London as my top answer, because there are so many breathtakingly lovely little scenes that you can turn a corner and find yourself within.
But, also, all the other cities mentioned on the thread are lovely. And I would like to nominate Durham too. The cathedral is a stunner. You can turn a corner and stumble across a view of it in many parts of the city and on walks all around the countryside around it.

I'm so lucky to live near Edinburgh, and would have to say there, even if there are pretty desolate parts to it as well.
I do also like Bath though.

It's hard to pick just one, but I love York

Tereseta · 03/12/2024 07:35

Durham is amazing, can walk along the river and the castle and cathedral are stunning.
Also would give Liverpool a shout, has some gorgeous architecture and two amazing cathedrals. The waterfront is gorgeous, especially when viewed from the ferry.

I live near York and work there a couple of days most weeks, it is pretty. Used to live in Cambridge- also lovely. However I went to Oxford a couple of months ago, thought that the old centre of Oxford was absolutely stunning.

York. I do love Liverpool like a pp suggested but wouldn't describe it as beautiful, especially on Matthews Street on a Friday night.

York

Yes, absolutely!

Ophy83 · 03/12/2024 07:50

Edinburgh wins because alongside the beautiful buildings it has the sea and a mountain.

Then Bath, particularly at sunset when the buildings glow golden.

Other cities have beautiful areas e.g. Canterbury in the old streets near the Cathedral and by the river at Westgate. The lovely little streets in York. The inns of court in London. Also Greenwich, Covent Garden, the parks. Victoria Quarter in Leeds.

Whitewolf2 · 03/12/2024 07:50

Bath

BlackChunkyBoots · 03/12/2024 07:54

I have been to Edinburgh, York and Bath, Oxford (loads of times) and Cambridge. and all are gorgeous.i think we are very lucky to have such beauty in our country.

Central Bristol around the Georgian areas are lovely too.

levantine · 03/12/2024 07:55

Edinburgh, no question. I think it's one of the most beautiful cities in Europe

CandleStub · 03/12/2024 07:56

Oxford, London, Norwich

HeddaGarbled · 03/12/2024 07:56

Puppylucky · 03/12/2024 07:56

Parts of Brighton are beautiful and have the most extraordinary light

Trixiefirecracker · 03/12/2024 07:56

Edinburgh and York and Bath.

Jingleballs2 · 03/12/2024 07:58

I like bath

Mirabai · 03/12/2024 08:00

London, but’s that’s because I’m a Londoner.

The most picturesque are Bath, Oxford & Cambridge, Edinburgh.

user1492757084 · 03/12/2024 08:02

Chester, but I haven't seen York.
I loved Edinburgh and London.

Threewheeler1 · 03/12/2024 08:04

I live in Bath but I'd say York 😁
It's stunning and I love the history. The people are great too.
