Why? Any photos?

Edinburgh and York, Edinburgh pips it though I think.

Parts of London are gorgeous though. Waterloo Brige, The Embankment, the back streets of Covent Garden.

Oxford? Oxford is pants.

Said no one ever...

eggandonion · 05/12/2024 16:53

Oxford has the colleges and posh part. And Cowley Road which must be gentrified now? Mill Road in Cambridge has gone very expensive.
I don't know how places in expensive cities can get staff.

Wells.

@BunnyLake I am inspired by your enthusiam for Switz - now planning a trip ...cant decide to go for the winter snow or the summer green....?

I’d go in the Summer but winter is magical too. I will say that the Swiss people are not as immediately warm as some other countries but it didn’t bother me. If I knew how to attach a photo I’d send one of the town I lived in.

BerriesCones · 05/12/2024 17:52

York

Polyp0 · 05/12/2024 17:52

Bath

eggandonion · 05/12/2024 21:36

I'd like to visit Royal Tunbridge Wells.
I'm definitely coach tour material.

I wanted to give a shout-out to Leeds. I don't know about the city as a whole, but I visited the centre a year or so ago and there were some lovely buildings there. Oh, and Bristol has some lovely bits too, and feels so alive.
Basically I love ALL the cities. They all have little jewels inside them.

Edited

Leeds is ace! But York is beautiful. I'm putting Edinburgh on the list after this thread

VegTrug · 06/12/2024 12:25

York!

VegTrug · 06/12/2024 12:28

If my hometown of Harrogate was a city, then that would’ve been my vote but alas it’s just a town! So York it is!

RaraRachael · 06/12/2024 12:51

I like most of the old ones that have cathedrals. I'd say York is probably my favourite. I also like Bath and Lincoln (especially the flat landscape around it).
Hate Edinburgh but have been flamed on here before for daring to say that-

Crikeyalmighty · 06/12/2024 16:29

@BunnyLake we live in Bath but rent - one thing I like here is we do have lots of twee and a bit dull , but I can live with that but we have some suprisingly funky places too that you would probably miss if on a tourist break - and lovely hilly countryside within 3 minutes out too - I actually think it's a better place to live than just visit

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/12/2024 20:16

I work in York, and love it, but I'm going to say Edinburgh.

Tealeavesinthecup · 06/12/2024 20:27

Bath for me.

cyclingmum67 · 06/12/2024 22:59

Durham

Therno · 23/12/2024 07:11

London

Shanna221 · 25/12/2024 09:30

Definitely York.

TortolaParadise · 26/12/2024 20:35

London

topsunmaverick · 27/12/2024 20:26

It's definitely Edinburgh all day long.

London

London? The most beautiful city in the UK? Dear god I hope not.

Maybe if I lived in a quiet, expensive square around the Belgravia area I could convince myself.

It was heavily bombed in WW2 so is mismatched. A million homes were lost.

BerriesCones · 28/12/2024 13:09

York

…..no one is saying Southend then 😉

No, isn't it odd?

Sinilarly, I can only assume from its absence on this thread that folk must have forgotten that Wolverhampton is now also a city.
