London

Has anyone said Lichfield? My friend lives there and the photos he sends me look AMAZING.

Manchester isn't a very beautiful city to look at or walk around in my opinion.

Every building looks very industrial. It's good for business and industries. But it's not very pretty to look at.

Agree

Manchester is grim and depressing imo

Togetheragain45 · 03/12/2024 12:46

Another vote for York.

Morethanthis71 · 03/12/2024 12:58

I love Bath, Chester, Lincoln, Wells and have the biggest soft spot for beautiful Lancaster.

Isn't it depressing that all the suggestions are, basically, 'old architecture'. Why are so many modern buildings so ugly.Sad

Have you been to Valencia? Amazing mixture of old and new

rewilded · 03/12/2024 13:12

They definitely went for the colour "grey and only grey" when they were building houses and offices.

Local stone. That is why the Cotswolds has yellow etc

Yes but why dont they paint the outside of some of the buildings?

Winchester. Cambridge. Bath, York.
I don't get the love for Edinburgh's at all. I've been several times and I don't think it's all that (and I don't know why really).

piscofrisco · 03/12/2024 13:25

@Lentilweaver we went on our honeymoon to Cornwall in January. The weather was cold of course but it was an absolutely stunning and pretty much deserted!

St David's

I agree, the walk down the high street when the cathedral is revealed is something special.

Even this proud weegie would say it has to be Edinburgh. But I'd still rather go to Glasgow for a night out.

Glasgow has personality, that’s for sure. Sadly I think Edinburgh is getting over exposed, even though objectively it is stunning.

Karatema · 03/12/2024 13:33

St David's, small but lovely 😀

Edinburgh. All day, every day. No contest.

This. Especially in the rain. Which is handy

wavingfuriously · 03/12/2024 13:37

Canterbury is nice

Pamosonic · 03/12/2024 13:37

Oxford
Bath
York
Canterbury
Edinburgh

The five finest historic cities in the UK in my opinion.

Whereabouts in cornwall please?

piscofrisco · 03/12/2024 13:41

Port Isaac. I think there must have been at most ten people in the whole village! It was absolutely magical. We sat on the platt and watched the stars and drank champagne in our hats and coats.
We went sort of second week in January, and a few things were still shut for mid winter (all the Nathan Outlaw restaurants) so if that's your bag then one week later they were due to reopen, though it may then get a bit busier...

Livinginaclock · 03/12/2024 13:42

Durham, small but perfectly formed, and absolutely stunning.

piscofrisco · 03/12/2024 13:42

Sorry that reponse was for @wavingfuriously
Should add it was handy for Padstow too... we did a bit of the coastal path from there and ended up back in Rick Steins chippy which was lovely.

Well, no. It's very much the product of the Industrial Revolution. It's got a few good buildings (the town hall and library), but a lot is functional. It's also very lacking in green spaces and trees imo.
