London

Camber Sands. £6 for an hour, £12 for three hours or £30 for the day to park. Ridiculous.

Apart from that, Disney.

herewego9 · 15/04/2024 09:36

Dublin - makes Venice look bargain basement

shearwater2 · 15/04/2024 11:27

Yeah, Dublin is a total rip off. Worse than London for hotels, in my experience. Budget hotel vibes for 4* money. Really basic but expensive food and lack of choice for vegetarians.

Crikeyalmighty · 15/04/2024 11:42

@MissAmbrosia Switzerland is eye watering - and as you say a lot of it is very mediocre. Two modest sandwiches and 2 coffees in a non descript setting in Berne was £38

The so called AI 5* hotel in Barbados! Cost a fortune for the hotel, only allowed 2 drinks a day, no vegetarian options -DH is veggie and the website menu had options. Cockroaches everywhere and birds shitting on the buffet at breakfast:

Which one? There's more than one. Grackles are a problem with open air eating all over the Carribbean

AnarchyInTheUK · 15/04/2024 12:25

I enjoy centre parcs although due to cost and cocid haven't been for several years. Thought about another trip - summer weekend in term time for the basic chalet £750!! I know the pool is free but still, all activities have to be paid for.

Then looked at a week in May half term for us and family just out of interest. £10k for a large chalet 😱😱. Who pays these prices?! I can understand £750 but £10k? Come on. Even split between 2/3 families it's crazy money for staying in the UK.

LividAA · 15/04/2024 12:28

Over ten years ago I spent €8 on a bottle of water in a club in Ibiza.

And the taps didn’t work so you couldn’t wash your hands, presumably in case you shafted their profits in the bogs.

LividAA · 15/04/2024 12:30

Oh and we had a night out in Mykonos where we said let’s not worry about money tonight and just have fun.

€200 gone by 8pm.

I paid €13 in 2019.

I dread to think how much it costs now.

stripeymonster · 15/04/2024 12:55

Positano and Capri.
Though not as expensive as ge cost of UK rail tickets.

AIstolemylunch · 15/04/2024 12:57

Las Vegas and San Francisco

WibblyWobblyWeeble · 15/04/2024 13:17

I always do London on the cheap, all the free museums, visiting different areas, food from local places or the supermarket, today tix for tickets and a budget place to stay in Victoria.

afrikat · 15/04/2024 13:25

Miami was ridiculous. We were in a bar where it was $10 for a shot of Jager and $10 for a corona. Spent an absolute fortune in a few hours. That was a long time ago so probably even more now

SometimesIDowonder · 15/04/2024 13:45

Venice. About 15 years ago it was £1 to use a public toilet. A restaurant we went to that was sensibly priced was full of flies. Anywhere decent was a ridiculous price. Beautiful scenery but I didn't think it was worth the cost.

Carriemac · 15/04/2024 14:05

Zermatt . Break ski holiday as a family but so so expensive

Ryegait · 15/04/2024 14:14

Center Parcs for sure - total utter rip off.

Venice is uber expensive but worth a short visit.

Australia also.

Any cruise.

JennyBeanR · 15/04/2024 14:20

Center parcs. Complete rip off. Wouldn't go again.

TunaCrunchy · 15/04/2024 16:45

St Augustine, Florida.

BurbageBrook · 15/04/2024 16:47

New York.

I feel like almost everywhere we go now is overpriced! Train tickets to London from where we live are eye-watering (and it's a 20-minute ride, so it's not far!). France is very expensive, the Canary Islands are very expensive, the USA is just SO expensive now and Costa Rica - bloody hell! I thought going to a (very developed), but developing country might be a bit cheaper than Europe/US, but it was probably the most expensive holiday we've ever had. Mainland Spain isn't too bad, to be fair, but since the pandemic I feel like everywhere we go we're being ripped off.

agree. I used to love planning and dreaming of holidays.. but haven't since covid really the price of everything puts me off

We’ve been a couple of times to both Split and Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik always was more expensive as they have completely gone after the tourist market. The last time we were there was October 2022 and prices were ridiculous, even our lovely apartment owner in Cavtat couldn’t believe the price for the cable car and walking the walls. Now they have joined the Euro I hate to think what prices are.

Slightly off topic but an aunt is from the former Yugoslavia and she tells me her Croatian carers ( fully qualified nurses) simply can’t afford to live on their salaries in Croatia which is why they chose to work as carers in the U.K.

Royal Albert Hall. Nearly £17 for a plastic cup of very average Sauv Blanc

Last time we went to the proms the mini bottles of wine we tried to bring in were intercepted by security. I wonder why ?!

Forgottenmyphone · 15/04/2024 21:04

Glas is forbidden in the auditorium. And they obviously want to sell their own overpriced stuff.
