Well many many places
New york and Boston when the fx rate went to shit $35 for a lobster roll when it was dollar pound parity.

Just got back from europa park where adult prices on hotel buffet was €45

$30 for mouse ears at disney world florida was pretty mad too. I didn't buy them.

SudExpress · 13/04/2024 07:50

Venice, without a doubt.
I live in Italy and even Italians think that Venetians are taking the piss.

00deed1988 · 13/04/2024 08:22

Disneyland and Denmark! Used supermarket in Denmark to try and lower the cost and still felt so expensive!

KottuKottuKottu · 13/04/2024 08:32

Maldives, never again

reluctantbrit · 13/04/2024 08:33

Most AI holidays in Europe we went to, overpriced for the quality of food and drink. We did it for convenience when DD was smaller but stopped now as she is a teen.

Theme parks, insane entry costs and you are queuing for ages or pay a fortune for fast passes.

LipstickLil · 13/04/2024 08:34

I feel like almost everywhere we go now is overpriced! Train tickets to London from where we live are eye-watering (and it's a 20-minute ride, so it's not far!). France is very expensive, the Canary Islands are very expensive, the USA is just SO expensive now and Costa Rica - bloody hell! I thought going to a (very developed), but developing country might be a bit cheaper than Europe/US, but it was probably the most expensive holiday we've ever had. Mainland Spain isn't too bad, to be fair, but since the pandemic I feel like everywhere we go we're being ripped off.

taxguru · 13/04/2024 08:34

London
Venice
Grand Canyon

KateDelRick · 13/04/2024 08:35

Sweden - crazy prices.
The cost of living is very high there.

Menomeno · 13/04/2024 08:38

Sainsbury’s is up there.

Sharkysharky · 13/04/2024 08:40

Alton towers can seriously fuck off. I got really stressed with the kids and ordered a prosecco (I know I know, through my drink choice, I deserved what was about to happen). It was like a thimble and cost £7-8 if memory serves me correctly. DH said to sit down, while he looked after the kids for a bit when men offer to babysit their own God damn kids. Before the pearl clutches jump on me, it was one alcoholic drink at a theme park, I wasn't plastered. Then DD wanted strawberries and chocolate, cost of £7ish for a small amount. Costa price was inflated. Then I bought an ice cream for DS who dropped it outside the shop. I think that's why I needed the drink tbh.

Alicewinn · 13/04/2024 08:40

Switzerland

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/04/2024 08:41

Most pubs in Edinburgh, lol.

TooTiredToType77 · 13/04/2024 08:43

I'm currently in Reykjavik, Iceland. A slab of 3 or 4 chicken breasts in the supermarket is about £18. Beer in a bar is over £10 and it's less than a pint. A meal out for 4, no alcohol, easily £120

However, apart from a few pounds for parking, the waterfalls and beaches and national parks are free and epic! Totally worth it

pharmachameleon · 13/04/2024 08:47

"@Sharkysharky I can feel the stress from your trip radiating out of my phone 😂
For me Los Angeles/California and the last time we went was around 5 years ago before the exchange rate went to shit. The mental tipping culture makes it feel way more expensive too.

GreyDuck · 13/04/2024 08:53

Courcheval/Three valleys skiing in France.
Last went about 10 years ago, and a baguette and coffee for lunch was about €20. I'd imagine it's doubled by now.
On the chalet host's night off, we paid €15 for a (small) rotisserie chicken from the supermarket. They were about £4 at home at the time.

The skiing is fantastic though, and I spend all my dream lottery winnings there.

IFHTTBIC · 13/04/2024 08:55

Lyme Regis. Specifically the parking. Though honourable mentions for lots of Cornwall too.

GreyDuck · 13/04/2024 08:56

I agree with pp about Venice too.

Mrsjayy · 13/04/2024 08:58

Vegas we loved it was an amazing experience but it's so expensive once you are there.

notanothernana · 13/04/2024 09:01

Centre Parcs. Fuck me, extortionate.

Exactly what I came to say, ridiculously expensive- we got charged $35 for a pint of lager & a wine, the hotels charge a ‘resort fee’ on top of your room fee which is literally just an extra charge just to exist in the hotel.

I know you can pay tips for a drink in the casinos but I was bored of the casinos and just wanted to have a quiet drink.

RefreshingCandour · 13/04/2024 09:03

Agreed re UK trains. INSANE. DS is at uni in Scotland and flying is ALWAYS a quarter of the price of the train. MADNESS.

Don’t go to theme parks/Disney/Center Parcs. All in the same category for us - Rip Off Central.

Agreed re NYC. Pret half baguette $10.

Hotel breakfasts generally a rip off. Cruise excursions = Saw You Coming.

Edited

We almost passed out at the resort fee it seemed to be a plucked out the air amount 😀

😂😂😂😂 this sums up the need for Prosecco perfectly

XelaM · 13/04/2024 09:08

Paignton (Devon). Expensive dump

TheBottomsOfMyTrousersAreRolled · 13/04/2024 09:08

I was going to say Switzerland and Denmark too. But then i though i bet most places feel expensive to brits now as our wages are low. Costs have gone up in 14 years but waves havent.
