Has anyone been? I'm here this week. I chose it randomly for holiday, as the cheapest flight to spain for me was to barcelona. Then I got a bus down to sitges.

I'm so impressed. Cheap hotels. The hotela arw half the price of the hotels in barcelona. I paid a lot for a hotel in barcelona on my first night here.

It wasn't that nice. no balcony no pool. And it was really expenaive.

I've cow come down to sitges. which is about 40 mins by bus from barcelona. My hotel is half the price if the barcelona one, and ten times nicer. my room has a balcony , it is right beside the beach, has a rooftop bar, a heated spa pool, and rhe best breakfast I've ever had.

I just really wanted to reccomend sitges in spain if anyone is looking for a cheap but great holiday!

Don’t tell everyone or it will be overrun ;)
its one of the safest and accepting places to be gay. Vibrant wonderful and accepting gay hub. the train ride from Barcelona is beautiful all along the coast x

We visited a while ago as a day trip while staying in Barcelona and I absolutely loved it! Will definitely be back to stay next time.

Hobbesmanc · 05/03/2024 13:55

Lovely arty little town. Just avoid the main gay festivals when prices soar and it's very hectic.

Aintbaint · 05/03/2024 13:59

Sitges is beautiful, laid back, super gay but also full of families… a bit like a sandier, sunnier Brighton. Been with and without kids and love it.

Kjones27 · 05/03/2024 14:02

Is it super gay? I've been here three days now and I haven't even seen any gay couples walking around.

I just walked up and down the main street and the beach and it is all full of straight couples.

It doesn't seem like more gay than anywhere else. If it was, I wouldn't care, but it doesn't seem like that

‘Is it super gay? I've been here three days now and I haven't even seen any gay couples walking around.’

You must have left your gaydar on the plane! Yes it is, like 30% of the population, which is obvs higher than the number of LGBTQ people Spain in general… its like Brighton that way. Part of what makes it a nice chill, cool, arty place.

I literally haven't seen a single gay couple in sitges in 3 days. You can't really have a "gay town". People move in and out of every town.

I've never heard a town being called super Gay before.

I did notice the beautiful beaches and walks though.

How would you know if you've seen any gay people OP?

Sitges is famous for it's LGBT culture and population. It's a stunning place to visit!

Well for example, I was only I'm barcelona for a day, and I walked past three lesbian couples. They were standing outside shops and holding hands and kissing. And I saw two men kissing.

Here in stiges I havent even seen two people of the same gender, even walking together on the beach or or on the streets. It is all straight couples.

Thats just been observation. It definitely doesn't seem gayer that barcelona or anywhere else.

That should say *I was only in barcelona for a day.

Its known as the gay capital of Europeni idea how that's escaped you ;). But that doesnt mean its not family friendly. Its the richer for it. Totally inclusive and safe
Its my favourite place ever. So beautiful and its wonderful anytime of year

Expensive around carnaval, pride and bears week but otherwise ok
Easy short train to barcelona too

Kjones27 · 05/03/2024 15:35

I wouldn't have noticed! It's definitely not the first thing I noticed
. I noticed the lovely beaches, and walks. And great food.

Well I'm glad that gay people are happy to come here
. And straight people. It's a lovely town.

It's the first hotel I've ever stayed In spain at this time of year that has a heated outdoor swimming pool.

Bliss

Which hotel out of interest?

KreedKafer · 05/03/2024 15:52

Yes, Sitges is really lovely. There are lots of really nice places north of Barcelona too - L'Escala, L'Estartit, Roses, Cadaques etc.

NotmyfirstRodeomyfriend · 05/03/2024 16:01

We visited last year when we stayed in Vilanova the next town along the coast.

We loved it but had the kids with us, plan to go back next year just as a couple.

Kjones27 · 05/03/2024 18:39

Is vilanova nice. I might pop down for a day @NotmyfirstRodeomyfriend

Cambrils is a really lovely seaside/fishing town not far away too.

StamppotAndGravy · 05/03/2024 18:44

Taragona is surprisingly nice too. Much more Spanish and chilled than Barcelona with lovely beaches all along the coast. We went once because the Ryanair flights were cheap

And Reus ( some flights go into Reus). Authentic Spanish city, we had a lovely day shopping and eating/drinking in a bar in a beautiful square.

I love Sitges but yes don’t tell everyone.

We were the only straight couple in the hotel and in a lot of the bars. It was a lovely place. There's a bar in the town where everyone turns their chairs to face the pedestianised bit so they watch eye up chaps as they walk along. It's a bit like a catwalk.

shenandoahvalley · 05/03/2024 18:55

If Ibiza is a party island, Sitges is a gay town - and they're both amazing for it!

Have fun!

Okay - listen chill out! stiges being a gay Mecca does not reflect in you! You can still like it, the beaches are still beautiful,
it’s still a lovely place.
