Sitges, Spain

Has anyone been? I'm here this week. I chose it randomly for holiday, as the cheapest flight to spain for me was to barcelona. Then I got a bus down to sitges.

I'm so impressed. Cheap hotels. The hotela arw half the price of the hotels in barcelona. I paid a lot for a hotel in barcelona on my first night here.

It wasn't that nice. no balcony no pool. And it was really expenaive.

I've cow come down to sitges. which is about 40 mins by bus from barcelona. My hotel is half the price if the barcelona one, and ten times nicer. my room has a balcony , it is right beside the beach, has a rooftop bar, a heated spa pool, and rhe best breakfast I've ever had.

I just really wanted to reccomend sitges in spain if anyone is looking for a cheap but great holiday!

Yeah it's a lovely place. There are really lovely walks outside the town too.

If I have time , I'm going to try to go to another town for a day too. So many nice places to see in spain.

I'm just so glad I decided to come out of barcelona. I nearly stayed in barcelona for the week, but last minute decided to come down to sitges.

I literally haven't seen a single gay couple in sitges in 3 days. You can't really have a "gay town". People move in and out of every town.

I've never heard a town being called super Gay before.

I did notice the beautiful beaches and walks though.

How do you know you haven’t seen a gay couple?? Sitges is very well known for being a gay resort and I’m amazed that you didn’t realise this before you went.

Fabulously safe place though - it was wonderfully refreshing for teen DD and I to be able to walk down lively streets in the middle of the night alone without being bothered by any pervy men. Got me thinking that I should visit gay towns more often!

rookiemere · 05/03/2024 21:33

I don't care about the other holidaymakers sexuality, I just want to know which hotel has a heated pool !

Simonjt · 05/03/2024 21:35

Its the gay capital of europe, we used to go every year but we had to have a break, we’ll be back this summer which we’re really looking forward to. Last time we were there two British tourists told us it was lovely that my friend had joined me on holiday to help me with my son, they probably also insistes that Sitges isn’t a gay resort.

Because its not just a gay resort! People come here for the beaches.

Oh my god. I don't want to talk about gay people any more. There is more to life!

Haven't we talked about it enough. Its been three pages now saying the same thing. "Sitges has a gay area".

Can we talk about other things.

Were there any restaurants in sitges that you liked? Any museums that you liked? To the people that have been here

Yeah I've been a couple of times and it is lovely.
Not at all sure why this isn't in Holidays or Chat though. People are always looking for recommendations on Holidays.

The not gay place

Sitges, Spain
Meredusoleil · 05/03/2024 21:40

We went for a day trip when staying at Vilanova Park in April 2022. Much preferred it to Barcelona, which I have been to many times. Also went to Taragona for the day which I also like more than Barcelona!

It is not just a gay resort but it is very much the gay capital of Europe..! I don’t see why you’re trying so hard to disagree with this. Yes it’s a nice town but that’s primarily the function of the resort.

We particularly loved the little chapel right out by the sea - gorgeous when all lit up at night

The not gay place

Again , for the fifth time, I didn't say it didn't have a gay area Simon.

I said that sitges has many many other things, other than that, aswell .

When i was in barcelona , I walked past lots of gay bars in barcelona.

Would we just say "Barcelona is gay' and say nothing else about the city when we talk about it? What about the museums, parks, beaches, restaurants

Why do we have to keep talking about sitges having a gay area over and over. There are so many other things to sitges

I've been three times with my family, before it became popular, in 2003, 2005 and 2011. The first time we were there we didn't hear another person speaking English! We stayed in a lovely little beachfront hotel with a restaurant popular with tourists and locals alike. Long queues for a table every night. Sadly now closed. Very fond memories of holidays there.

I have to admit the biggest seller for us though was the short train ride to Barcelona, it’s really the only reason we chose it. To be honest I’ve been to far nicer seaside towns in Spain but it served its purpose for us and was super handy

splatmouse · 05/03/2024 21:45

You didn't know it's a famously gay town but also you saw a post on a forum where people called it that and apparently convinced another person to 'not go then.'

Quin és?
Which is it?
¿Cuál es?

Simonjt · 05/03/2024 21:45

Its been three years but restaurands we like

Queenz
Flamboyant
Incognito
Sucre Sale
Le Patio
Pic nic

The romanticism museum is nice, but I think it had very limited opening hours.

You can also go and see the pink triangle monument

Kjones27 · 05/03/2024 21:45

It's good weather this week aswell.

Which I'm thankful for.

Last time I came to Spain offpeak, it was raining. Its been lovely and sunny this week.

Jesus.

Do you want to know my blood type. This was meant to be a nice happy thread.

I started this thread a while ago today. I started looking up things to do in sitges AFTER I started this thread. It was when searching for things to do in sitges that I saw a man telling another man not to go as it was an all gay resort

Happy?

I love it and it is so much fun during Carnavales in february. Our DD was mesmerised by the drag queens at the burying of the sardine.

it is a fabulous town. My nan’s best friend went to live there with his boyfriend and it became a family favourite destination. Very much a gay destination - have a look at the bars.

the market is small but has fab food and also some gorgeous old fashioned shops selling Mayoral and other Spanish kids clothes at bargain prices.

i agree with PP. don’t tell anyone how amazing it is. Let’s keep it our secret.

Nanny0gg · 05/03/2024 21:49

I first went in 1960.

I think it's change a bit since then...

It's lovely just to walk around. The parks are great too. I wish I had more time to see more towns down the coast.

I could happily spend two months just traveling further down the coast. Ita so lovely
