Sitges, Spain

Has anyone been? I'm here this week. I chose it randomly for holiday, as the cheapest flight to spain for me was to barcelona. Then I got a bus down to sitges.

I'm so impressed. Cheap hotels. The hotela arw half the price of the hotels in barcelona. I paid a lot for a hotel in barcelona on my first night here.

It wasn't that nice. no balcony no pool. And it was really expenaive.

I've cow come down to sitges. which is about 40 mins by bus from barcelona. My hotel is half the price if the barcelona one, and ten times nicer. my room has a balcony , it is right beside the beach, has a rooftop bar, a heated spa pool, and rhe best breakfast I've ever had.

I just really wanted to reccomend sitges in spain if anyone is looking for a cheap but great holiday!

Its been three years but restaurands we like

Queenz
Flamboyant
Incognito
Sucre Sale
Le Patio
Pic nic

The romanticism museum is nice, but I think it had very limited opening hours.

You can also go and see the pink triangle monument

Lots of these didnt survive covid sadly
Queenz cabaret is a great drag dinner show with amazing food well worth it.
Zacs is similar but less drag and more musical variety. Great food
The romantic museum has closed but behind the church at the front you'll find a few well-worth visiting
Great brunch at la table de sitges and aminet
Bon estar is great if the weather isn't great
Also la punta. For the best tapas
La Grotta is a great Italian with fab food.
Yamuna on san Sebastian beach. Great views real catalan cooking
Club nautica has a great nenu del dia woth absolutely stunning views (looks nithing frok the outside. Its on a jetty
The port is lovely for a drink. Many have live music at a weekend

Ive not been there for forty years, you've made me want to go back op.

rookiemere · 06/03/2024 07:07

I guess I'm never going to know the name of the hotel <sigh>.

@Pottedpalm no. Sorry. After the nastiness and cruelty thar I've received on this thread , I'm not helping anyone any more.

Why would I. Its nothing to do with you personally.

I also dont want to say my current location, as some people on this thread (not you) have upset me.

I need to take a break from mumsnet. People really upset me on here.

You try to help and give advice and you just get abuse.

You’ve only replied to the comments you see as ‘nastieness’ (they really aren’t, though). You really
overreacted to learning that Sitges is popular with the gay community, and obviously people found that strange, because it is. If you’d just gone oh ok that’s interesting, I didn’t know that, instead of trying to make out that there’s barely any gay people (because you’d know??), people wouldn’t have kept commenting on the topic.

MassageForLife · 06/03/2024 07:27

Honestly op, the fact that you are in denial about Sitges being a gay resort is what caused the thread to be focused on it.

Had you responded 'oh is it? I didn't realise, but it makes no difference. It's a fantastic place to be because .... ' then the thread would have moved on.

It's the fact that you don't want to accept that truth, that has caused people to try to educate you.

I hope you enjoy your holiday.

And
"Unhinged"

I notice you left those points out.

Hi everyone,
Thanks to everyone who reported this thread, we really appreciate it. We'd like to remind everyone that a thread posted in AIBU with perhaps a couple of clumsily worded posts is not a signal to attack the OP, not least because the more people who do it the more it looks like egregious bullying to the casual reader.
We are, however, moving this thread to a board where it is better suited, but under the circumstances would understand if the OP no longer wishes to share her travel experiences.
We really would be grateful if everyone could take this opportunity to review the MN Talk Guidelines and once again we are grateful to those who flagged this thread for our attention.

Op, have you noticed any issues because of the water restrictions? I've put off going to Catalonia as I don't want to be an added strain on their limited resources.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 06/03/2024 13:54

Yes we've been to Sitges for a week in October a few years back . It was lovely .

Picking up on the conversation in the thread - I recall reading before we went that it was something like Europe's 'gay capital' but I can't recall noticing it as being any different to other resorts we've been to, in terms of demographics and venues. We went in 2015 with 14 year old DS so I guess when we went out in the evening it was to restaurants rather than bars and we would have been out fairly early, but even so we didn't notice any difference in demographics.

OTOH Torremolinos seems to have an area with several bars / clubs advertised as being either gay or as LGBT friendly . It seems quite a thing. But then again, perhaps we noticed it as it was the particular area we stayed in.

Either way they are both resorts I really like and would definitely return to .

SpttyMaldoon · 06/03/2024 23:49

@Kjones27 if you change your mind, I would also love to know the hotel you’re staying at with a heated pool

will be going for Easter and although some hotels mention their pools are open all year round, the don’t clearly state of the pools are heated.

thanks!

Simonjt · 07/03/2024 05:49

Eurostars Sitges and Sunway Playa golf both have heated pools.

Aintbaint · 07/03/2024 20:50

‘There is no such thing as a gay town!

That's ridiculous! How can you have a gay town. Its kind of a silly thing to say. There are hundreds of straight people here in sitges. There are loads of families. There are also gay people’

a gay Mecca I said and yes there is! You’re clearly freaking over enjoying somewhere that has a very big LGBTQ population, is known for being super gay and gay friendly, and attracts many LGBTQ holiday makers!
It’s also somewhere that Barcelonians go on holiday nand breaks with family and kids.

Eeee Jane Macdonald is on Ch 5 in Sitges right now!
