Rhodes tomorrow morning

We are due to fly to Rhodes tomorrow morning- going to Ixia at the top of the island. We are staying 3 nights until moving on to another island. Would you go? The resort is quite far away from the fires but I’m still very worried.

Is the flight still going ahead? I’d have assumed not but if it is, I don’t think the insurance would cover you for not going.

Personally, I’d not go and try and change it for somewhere else. I don’t think I’d be able to relax.

biedrona · 23/07/2023 09:51

Are you crazy????

Xrays · 23/07/2023 09:51

I wouldn’t go. I’m on a lot of different holiday groups on Facebook and flights are still going ahead which means you may lose your money - the government hasn’t said it’s unsafe to travel yet - but personally having read the experiences of those out there I wouldn’t go. One family went on a flight and when they got there their hotel was on fire / closed down and they had to sleep on a beach.

Emmamoo89 · 23/07/2023 09:52

I wouldn't go

HeidiUpTheMountain · 23/07/2023 09:56

By tomorrow, I suspect your flight won’t go, so it’ll be taken out of your hands - but have you seen the chaos they are in? Holiday reps nowhere to be seen, hundreds of people huddled on beaches having left all their possessions behind wondering how they will escape, no formal contact from authorities. You will be adding to the problem the police and fire service are facing if you increase the numbers of tourists on the island at this stage.

BlushBlue · 23/07/2023 09:57

Of course not 🙄

WafflingDreamer · 23/07/2023 10:00

No i wouldn't go, however I think unless the government issue proper guidance not to travel or your flight is cancelled you won't get your money back.

Usernamen · 23/07/2023 10:03

Hi OP, check out the other Rhodes thread. It very much depends on where you’re staying - the posters on that thread are far away from the fires and they say things are fine at their hotel/resort. The airport might be bedlam though.

Thisweeksname · 23/07/2023 10:05

I think a lot of airlines are cancelling flights. Jet2 have cancelled all their flights to Rhodes today so I would keep checking. Some parts of the island are not as affected but it’s a situation that is changing very quickly.

StefanosHill · 23/07/2023 10:06

Check your flight op and insurance

gogomoto · 23/07/2023 10:23

Ixia is close to Rhodes town and not in the fire area, check with your airline though

Have you spoken to the tour operator? The airline? The hotel?

Backstreets · 23/07/2023 10:26

I wouldn’t go, no.

TenOhSeven · 23/07/2023 10:27

Of course you can't go! More tourists turning up is the last thing the island needs right now I'd imagine.

Maireas · 23/07/2023 10:28

The island is being evacuated. You can't go.

Jakadaal · 23/07/2023 10:30

Jet 2 holidays have announced that 5 flights cancelled today and they are sending out 5 empty flights to being people back. I suspect tour operators are working on a day to day basis

Quveas · 23/07/2023 10:30

^This^

Unless you are willing to write off all the money you paid, then these are the people (plus your insurance) you need to speak to - not a bunch of internet randoms.

The island is not being evacuated. Thousands of people are being evacuated from parts of the island. Things are bad enough without adding to the drama.

OP - speak to your tour operator and insurance.

Dogmatix34 · 23/07/2023 10:35

We booked with Olympic airlines and are flying easyJet. No word from either of them yet.

Tour operators will leave it as late as possible to cancel, if you cancel you will lose all your money, some parts are ok

Have you rang them?

Eggsley · 23/07/2023 10:38

Jet2 and TUI have cancelled all flights to Rhodes, so other operators say do the same. As others have said, you will have to speak to them.

Maireas · 23/07/2023 10:39

adding to the drama 😂😂
yeh, it's all fine, you know how unreliable BBC reports are

StillWantingADog · 23/07/2023 10:41

Easyjet is a scheduled airline rather than a holiday charter so I imagine the flights will go unless the airport is affected

But Olympic May cancel the holiday as they have a duty of care to passengers, Easyjet won’t in the same way.
In any case I wouldn’t be going, no.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 23/07/2023 10:41

We are in Ixia right now. We were evacuated last night and spent the night in a school. We only arrived Friday but have changed our flights to come home tmo.
Ixia on the face of it seems unaffected but every hotel worker I've spoken to, we've both ended up in tears. It's awful. The most awful 36 hrs I've ever had.
Rhodes is not the place for a holiday right now.
