Warsaw

Jaxhog · 15/05/2023 14:44

Venice
Vienna,
Prague
Barcelona (if they fix the crime and dirt)

Inthebathagain · 15/05/2023 14:47

I just can't get enough of London. Always something new to see and do.

My top three non UK are

Budapest
Salzburg
Gdansk

Would return to any of those in a heartbeat.

Usernamen · 15/05/2023 14:54

I’m amazed Budapest is getting so many mentions.

I always have a great time there (excellent night life) but it wouldn’t even make my top 10 European cities!

HermioneWeasley · 15/05/2023 14:58

Controversially I prefer Madrid to Barcelona

my favourite is Istanbul

Brussels is a good one for food and low demand

"I suspect that people who don't like Barcelona don't like it because it's drowning under the unsustainable weight of overtourism, parts of it having been entirely hollowed out."

Nope, I don't like it because it's got a weird atmosphere, is dirty and feels edgy in a bad way and feels scummy. The police were patrolling the beach and shortly behind them was a trail of Chinese people trying to massage you. Walking las ramblas is like running the pickpocket gauntlet and the warren like streets feel oppressive there, unlike in Venice where it feels calm and interesting.

Budapest has so much more than the nightlife! I did an interesting walking tour and learnt a lot.

It's really hard to beat the big capital cities like London, Paris and Rome. There is just SO much to see and do and you can go back again and again and never see everything, plus you'll want to go back to places you've loved and see them again. I've been to Paris 8 times and there are still places I haven't been to.

kikisparks · 15/05/2023 15:13

Berlin I think. But I did enjoy Vienna and Rome a lot too.

Superdupes · 15/05/2023 15:22

Paris and Rome have so much to see but they're definitely not my favourite, they're right up there with London in that respect. I much prefer somewhere smaller and quieter that you can just stroll around. I found Madrid boring in comparison to those 3 though and didn't really like Berlin that much either. Athens was horrid but it was many years ago that I went. I couldn't get very excited by Oslo, Copenhagen or Bruges but I do quite like Budapest and Prague. Istanbul is very cool, if that counts as Europe.

Cities I love - Palma is probably my all round favourite. Small but perfectly formed I really look forward to going back. Porto, another slice of gorgeousness. Old Dubrovnik, just stunning and Sorrento is very nice. Florence and Venice - so beautiful, but you probably need to avoid the summer hols to get the best of most of these places.

SquashPenguin · 15/05/2023 15:24

Berlin. I’d move there tomorrow.

crazeekat · 15/05/2023 16:26

Rome - been 8 times!
With London a close second.

sakura06 · 15/05/2023 16:47

Florence is my favourite. I loved it. Copenhagen and Stockholm are also great but very expensive.

Oblomov23 · 15/05/2023 16:53

Berlin
Bruges
Dubrovnik
Ljubljana
Krakow
Lisbon

Hohofortherobbers · 15/05/2023 17:07

Loved krakow

Swishhh · 15/05/2023 17:14

St Petersburg for the sheer scale of the palaces.

I have tried Barcelona twice and it’s just not for me.

I love Rome, turning every corner is another wow moment.

caringcarer · 15/05/2023 17:31

Brugge and Salzburg. I love them both.

Riverseawoods · 15/05/2023 17:32

Valencia
Luxembourg City

fussychica · 15/05/2023 17:36

I've been to many cities in Spain and loved most of them but Codoba for the patio festival holds a special place in the list.
Against the crowd, I didn't like Venice(been twice, once many years ago and again last year) or Porto, though poor weather may have coloured my judgement somewhat in the case of Porto.

Cattenberg · 15/05/2023 17:42

Outside of the UK, the one European city I definitely want to go back to is Venice.

It’s expensive, crowded, frustrating and the weather can be awful (sometimes very hot and humid and sometimes flooded). But it’s the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen and there’s so much to explore. I love getting lost in the backstreets and I’d like to visit every island.
