would love to know which you enjoyed most and would go back to again

Berlin. Have been back over a dozen times and still find new aspects of the city to explore and enjoy. Very nearly moved there, and sometimes wish we had.

Ljubljana. Only been once, but will definitely go back. Only a small city, but it has a lot to see and with Slovenia being a relatively compact country it's very easy to get out and explore the countryside around the city - e.g. Lake Bled, Postojna, Koper.

Gdańsk is another small city that I enjoyed even more than I expected. Only had a couple of days there but I could have spent a lot more time exploring the city.

Obvious ones would be Paris and Venice. I think there's plenty to explore on a few visits.

Less romantic and weather not as good: Belfast - small but plenty of tourist/history bits and the people are immensely friendly and proud of their city.
Vilnius - cheapish flights and walkable in the main. Lots to explore and they really want to show off their history and shake off some of the post soviet stereotypes.

Glad someone said Belfast as dd is flying there this summer to visit a school friend who's moving there. I've not been but sounds nice

Would love to go back to Granada and Valencia

OhBling · 15/05/2023 09:46

Fascinating to see different views. Lots of people saying Berlin - I've been a couple of times for various reasons and it's nice enough, but I didn't love it.

Rome and Madrid are two of my favourites and would like to go back - haven't for years. Iiked Barcelona a lot too.

I'm slightly indifferent to Paris but looking forward to taking the DC there anyway! :)

Munich is also great.

Very pleased to hear the love for Bologna and Valencia on this thread - both are on my list of places I'm hoping to take the DC over the next few years.

Loving the love for Berlin!

I also felt very much at ease there and happily cycled around by myself one time. I’d love to live there.

I’d like to return to Belfast to explore more.

Nice (FR) is always at the top of my list, I just love the "vintage" vibe in the alleyways, the beautiful restaurants, the beaches... Verona and Dubrovnik are also spectacular!

MissAmbrosia · 15/05/2023 10:13

Seville
Nice (and environs)
Budapest
Barcelona
Prague

watcherintherye · 15/05/2023 10:19

I’ve enjoyed most European cities I’ve been to, tbh. Loved Budapest, though, would definitely go back!

EmmaStone · 15/05/2023 10:22

Ok, well I'm a sucker for Italy, so Rome & Bologna, and Berlin because there was so much to see and do, and I only scratched the surface. It's got a great buzz about it. But I'd be sad not to have a French city to go back to (and I'm also being reminded of so many other places with other people's comments). Recently went to Bordeaux and was really impressed, so beautiful!

rachelagain · 15/05/2023 10:40

Paris, Venice, Oslo, Madrid. Lots of others too, but I love those four the most.

Usernamen · 15/05/2023 10:52

BERLIN 💜

I would love love love to move there one day.

budgiegirl · 15/05/2023 10:53

I've love a European city break and have been to quite a few cities, but the one that I would go back to again and again is Rome. I've been three times, and I can't wait to go again. It's such an amazing city, and I get quite emotional when I am there (although that might be the wine at lunch!)

JamSandle · 15/05/2023 11:05

Nice

AngelsWithSilverWings · 15/05/2023 11:14

Seville ( beautiful and has fantastic restaurants ) and Berlin ( been twice and loved it both times)

Hobbesmanc · 15/05/2023 11:31

Ooh planning a mini break is one of my all time special things. There are some top league ones, that if you haven't visited really should be the first options. Paris, Venice, Rome, Barcelona, Prague, Amsterdam. But if you are looking for less obvious options I'd recommend Porto, Bologna, Santiago, Bruges Utrecht as cities I loved.

Snoken · 15/05/2023 11:42

I live in my favourite European city, Stockholm. A city I always want to come back to in Nice. I must have been 10 times by now but I never get bored with it. If only they had sandy beaches rather than pebbles, then it would be the perfect city in the world for me.

TreesAtSea · 15/05/2023 11:45

Amsterdam. Had two short visits and will definitely be going back to explore more.

cptartapp · 15/05/2023 11:45

Seville. And I've done a few.

Gingersay · 15/05/2023 11:49

Mahon and Galway are my two fav cities

Peccary · 15/05/2023 12:34

San Sebastian and Porto

dwightschrutebeets · 15/05/2023 13:35

I haven't been tk many but I loved Copenhagen

CoronationKicking · 15/05/2023 13:48

Innsbruck
Bergamo
Budapest

midsomermurderess · 15/05/2023 14:29

I've enjoyed Lyon and Lisbon. I also like Helsinki very much.

midsomermurderess · 15/05/2023 14:36

I suspect that people who don't like Barcelona don't like it because it's drowning under the unsustainable weight of overtourism, parts of it having been entirely hollowed out. I was last there 10 years ago and it was a miserable experience. Also 'Nice (France)'. Do people on here need telling where Nice is? Is it to distinguish it from the Nice outside of Birmingham (UK)?
