Barcelona was a big disappointment to me,couldn't see or feel the charm that everyone went on about.

Seattle also...was expecting a fab place that was voted number one place to live a while ago.Just another big city..nothing special imo.

What cities did you find disappointing?

Brussels, blimey what a dull hole.
wasn't madly impressed with Amsterdam either tbh.
Milan and MAdrid
Dublin
oh dear I am a bit jaded I think

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 13/02/2008 19:47

Am quite sure everyone will queue up to pelt me for this but... Paris!

tiredemma · 13/02/2008 19:47

Amsterdam.

TheFallenMadonna · 13/02/2008 19:48

brimfull · 13/02/2008 19:48

I kind of agree about Barcelona. There are interesting bits but it doesn;t do for me what Paris does, or Venice.

Rome left me completely cold, as well, oddly.

TotalChaos · 13/02/2008 19:49

Ditto Brussels. Grand place, pubs and lace shops were nice, area round the train station was grim. I adore Barcelona though (except Ramblas, which I think is hugely overrated)

brimfull · 13/02/2008 19:49

I love Paris

You really have to know people in Bareclona to experience it properly. The tourist trail is rubbish and all the best places are hidden away.

I agree paris is a bit shite.

Brussels

FrayedKnot · 13/02/2008 19:55

I used to stay with my sister in Barcelona so saw lots off the beaten track but it didn;t do it for me like Paris does - I enjoyed it but...but...

bunnyhunny · 13/02/2008 19:56

not a city, but bruge is crap.

3Ddonut · 13/02/2008 19:57

Brighton!!! >

see what you mean about Barca, I really don't like las ramblas but there are better bits.

Frayedknot (off to add you to the best names on MN list) Rome loved the place!!! Had low expectations as I wanted to go to Venice, but I really loved it!

choosyfloosy · 13/02/2008 19:57

Los Angeles. Although I liked Venice Beach... but it was raining constantly and I was using public transport, which probably doesn't show it at its best. I just felt it was a huge mess of a place (original eh).

hairtwiddler · 13/02/2008 19:57

Montreal. It was strange and dull and I just didn't get any buzz from it.

brimfull · 13/02/2008 19:57

very useful info here

had Dublin,Amsterdam,Bruge on my list of places to see.

What about Prague?

OP posts:
choosyfloosy · 13/02/2008 19:58

Oh God, Brighton, yes. Although if you meet people from Brighton who have been torn away they all say they're desperate to go back there so it clearly has something.

wheelybug · 13/02/2008 19:59

Hmm now you mention it - I wasn't v. imprssed with Prague. But we did go in the height of the summer and I was 11 weeks pregnant. I think the key is to go out of season (and to be able to partake in a few beverages if you're that way inclined).

puffling · 13/02/2008 20:00

Hairtwiddler, is it like being in France, or is it like being in America in Montreal?
