Easyjet cancelled flight😢

Absolutely gutted. Due to fly to Lisbon this afternoon, probably minutes before getting on the plane, our flight was cancelled along with loads more due to I.T issues. We've planned this trip ages ago, so excited as first holiday with DSD abroad. We all had to go back to arrivals and collect our bags, just got home. No real assistance from Easyjet, no chance of changing flights by the looks. Absolutely devastated!

Oh that sounds awful.

What did easyJet staff tell you at the airport?

I never leave the airport before they sort out a replacement or tell me what the next steps are.

Are there no available flights early tomorrow? Even if it’s with a different company, easyJet and/or your insurance will reimburse you and cover the cost of new flights - or so they should. Can you afford new tickets and claim later?

Hugasauras · 26/05/2022 19:09

Oh how horribly disappointing Sad

Branleuse · 26/05/2022 19:14

that absolutely sucks. Hopefully you should get it back on the insurance. Is there anyway of booking another flight while youre waiting for insurance to sort it. I had to do this last year when the airport had a bombscare that prevented us from boarding. Ryanair were worse than useless, but we managed to get another flight a few days later and the hotel were really good about moving our booking.

hellswelshy · 26/05/2022 19:21

All the flights we've looked at so far are fully booked, it's the start of half term here. Easyjet were pretty useless really, not much they could do I suppose but it was awful, lots of families with kids really disappointed, even a bridal party šŸ˜” We're just very deflated, we are home now and wondering if we have the energy to rebook anything. I should be in the Algarve by now!!! I'm allowing myself a bit of a self indulgent weep.

What are your closest airports? I’ll happily do a search to see if something comes up.

You mention Algarve - is flying into Faro or Sevilla an option?

hellswelshy · 26/05/2022 20:13

Our closest airports are Cardiff, Bristol but could do Birmingham possibly. Faro would be good, Seville at a push. I think normally it would be easier, but so many flights cancelled today plus half term. Urgh.

@hellswelshy I’m in exactly the same boat as you, our flight to Gran Canaria cancelled at Gatwick less than an hour before take off. Absolute chaos at the airport. I spent ages looking for alternative flights but they simply don’t exist - the earliest we could get any flight at all (one that we would pay for ourselves and try to claim back) is Sunday - that’s half the holiday gone. EasyJet fucking useless, as were TUI who we booked the package holiday through - they said our only options were to take the Sunday flight and miss half the holiday but not get any partial refund - or cancel altogether for a full refund. So that’s what we’ve done and we’re now home.

I’m absolutely gutted, I so needed this holiday, my work has been so unbelievably stressful lately and I’ve just been thinking I just had to get through a few more weeks and then I’d be able to recharge. Also so gutted for my DS (6) who has been so excited and hasn’t been abroad since he was 3, pre-Covid. I’ve done a lot of crying.

hellswelshy · 26/05/2022 21:44

So sorry Robostripes I really empathise, same here, so looking forward to a break. We were going back to a much loved part of the Algarve and looking forward to showing it to DSD. We all have a week off now, but no flights to get away, so gutting.

I was away with work and that flight was cancelled this morning - roseate issue I think though as was a morning one. I'm due to fly on holiday with them Sunday on holiday and a bit worried......

Newnormal99 · 26/05/2022 21:48

*separate

FatLadySang · 26/05/2022 22:18

Don’t forget to apply for your compensation - you can fill it in online on their website (even if they find you another flight there are mandatory amounts they have to pay you when cancelling so close to departure)

hellswelshy · 27/05/2022 07:48

Thanks FatLadySang yes we have found the form for the compensation. The flight chang/refund was meant to be 'managed' (their words at the airport šŸ™„) on the app. However when we tried to do this, it comes up with an error saying that our flight has either already been managed or wasn't disrupted! Not sure if this is because we had already checked in or if so many people are trying to use the app. Either way I sincerely hope that Easyjet don't make it difficult for us after a horrible experience. So sad this morning, wanted to wake up to sunshine and a pool!

Can you book for France? Nice weather there at the moment. Jump in your car and go via Eurotunnel to the Loire. Not a massively long drive. Eurocamp type places will have lots of availability.

hellswelshy · 27/05/2022 08:57

Turmerictolly that's exactly what we are looking at right now, given up on the idea of flying now!

Get on the phone to EasyJet customer service asap, and get them to sort you out another flight. We went to Greece at Easter, found out our flight home was cancelled as we were checking in to leave the UK. Got through to customer service remarkably quickly, and they booked us on a flight back to Gatwick, and repaid our transfer costs back to our original airport (Bristol). We also got compensation for the cancelled flight. THEY should be sorting this for you!!

hellswelshy · 27/05/2022 12:27

We have tried to contact Easyjet every way possible but just can't. Hanging on for ages then cut off, no online chat available. It's too late now to be honest, my DSD only had a week to come with us and we had to cancel everything, accommodation, car hire etc. The car hire are being inflexible saying no refund as we should have told them before we were due to get to Lisbon. But at that point we didn't know what was happening due to the chaos at the airport and getting home 😐

Ribb · 27/05/2022 12:41

Sounds utterly shite. I hope you can find something nice to do.
I'm very nervous about my flight on Monday with DS fir his birthday and half term. I may start planning a back up.......

balalake · 27/05/2022 18:34

Sorry to read about this.

I'd bet the IT issues were caused by something very simple, or stupid such as having an upgrade the week before the half-term holiday.

Robostripes · 27/05/2022 18:41

@hellswelshy we haven’t had any luck getting through to easyJet either - they cancelled so many flights that it’s just chaos I think.

Ours was a package holiday and the holiday company has now agreed to give us a full refund and transfer our holiday to one in July instead. So at least we have something to look forward to now but still such a disappointment.

Mumsnut · 27/05/2022 18:55

Always book a package, seems to be the takeaway

TizerorFizz · 27/05/2022 19:08

Yes. Book a package. Who you book with is then responsible for refunds for every element. It’s folly these days to book separate elements. Easy Jet won’t give a flying f..k about customers.

Indigoo03 · 28/05/2022 05:56

What's happened with people who have had advance noticed of flights cancelled this week?

Wartywart · 28/05/2022 22:28

We were due to fly to France tomorrow morning, Easyjet from Gatwick. Only found out the flight was cancelled when I looked it up after reading the news this morning about them cancelling loads of flights. Still haven't had an email from them. If I hadn't looked, we would have turned up at the airport.

hellswelshy · 29/05/2022 07:53

Sorry Wartywart that's so disappointing. Any chance of getting any other flights? I read today on the BBC news of some families who were on the plane when they were told about the flight cancellation, and another who Easyjet found them another flight at a different airport then that flight was cancelled too. Just awful.

An update on my situation- we got to the Eurotunnel and are now in France, so not the holiday we planned but very grateful we are doing something with the dc 😊
