Easyjet cancelled flight😢

Absolutely gutted. Due to fly to Lisbon this afternoon, probably minutes before getting on the plane, our flight was cancelled along with loads more due to I.T issues. We've planned this trip ages ago, so excited as first holiday with DSD abroad. We all had to go back to arrivals and collect our bags, just got home. No real assistance from Easyjet, no chance of changing flights by the looks. Absolutely devastated!

I am so sorry for everyone who lost their holiday. We got here but our luggage didn't. We usually do Eurotunnel/ Eurostar and will be going back to that in future.

GuppytheCat · 29/05/2022 08:03

Oh goodness, Brindisi! Hope you at least have toothbrush, spare knickers and warm weather while it takes its time getting to you.

WombatNo12 · 29/05/2022 08:05

They are also supposed to put you on another flight, even if its with another airline. As well as compensation & the refund.

Glad you got somewhere!

Wartywart · 29/05/2022 08:17

@hellswelshy all other easyJet flights were either cancelled or showing as 'fully booked', and when we went on Skyscanner, nothing else unless it took 18 hours with 4 stops! Have applied for refund and compensation but didn't realise we could phone them and ask them to find us another flight with another airline (but then again, as per our Skyscanner search, maybe not!). Just really disappointing for the kids. And now I have to quickly come up with new and interesting things to do this week. 😐

CatDogMonkeyPOW · 29/05/2022 08:29

The travel chap on the BBC was saying yesterday that there is a legal obligation for airlines to get you to your destination, even if it means they have to spend £100s to do so. They don't tend to alert customers of this for obvious reasons, but it's worth bearing in mind for anyone in similar situations. You are also entitled to compensation on top that.

Oblomov22 · 29/05/2022 08:40

Pleased to see your update op. How utterly pants by EasyJet though. That would've really hacked me off majorly.

PinkKryptonite · 29/05/2022 08:46

Easyjet and Ryan air deserve to go out of business, they really do. I flew EJ once, and never again. My DC was delayed on a school trip with Ryan Air for 8 hours and it took 2 years to try and get the legal compensation they owed me and in the end I gave up on it.

I will NEVER again use Ryanair.

Oh goodness, Brindisi! Hope you at least have toothbrush, spare knickers and warm weather while it takes its time getting to you.

Spent the first day trailing round a shopping mall to get basics, managed to get some light weight crop trousers and a couple of tops and some knickers. Could not find a bra to fit me Blush. Ditto sandals so have been wearing my trainers which are too hot.
Had a call from BA yesterday saying they will deliver bag today, no time, so another day hanging around because I want to be sure it is correct bag, intact etc.
So not great really as we missed a tour on day one due to being stuck in the airport for nearly 3 hours filling in forms, then traipsing round looking for clothes.
At least we got here though.
There were about 20 passengers in the same boat, many of them with babies and toddlers, 2 wedding parties, so I felt more sorry for them tbh.
OP, I hope you manage to have a lovely holiday after all.

We flew EasyJet this morning from Luton. I didn't believe it was actually going to go until wheels left the runway!

angstridden2 · 29/05/2022 11:05

If you have problems getting compensation look on the Money Saving Expert website where there’s links to the right forms and addresses. Tui ignored us after a much delayed flight and total chaos at airport with no Tui reps visible, saying that the flight did not exist even with screenshots of boarding cards and the departure board. They paid up very swiftly after the right forms went in, there are legally agreed amounts of recompense they must pay.

Figgygal · 29/05/2022 17:43

We were cancelled thursday too
15 months in the making
My parents were flying from their local airport and in the air when our flight was cancelled
Which wasnt just a flight of course but our holiday ......first for 5 years......quality time for my parents to spend with grandkids after 2 civid years of barely seeing them
Of course prices are now so horrendous there is little chance of getting an equivalent holiday
Will never give easyjet another penny out of me

Figgygal · 29/05/2022 17:46

Oh and no support at the airport
Literally flight canceled, pick up your bags have a safe onward trip.
Had an email cancelling the whole holiday within few hours so couldnt have even caught up to hotel and parents as theyd cancelled return flight and accommodation.
Ive had refund at least

Echobelly · 29/05/2022 17:49

@hellswelshy - we had same last night with wizzair. They literally cancelled as people were boarding and we've had to abandon our first holiday abroad in 2.5 years. I have launched a claim Money-saving expert's site. Its free and very easy.

We've managed to get an airbnb on South Coast from tomorrow at least but I feel sorry for those who don't have resources for an alternative. Enjoy France!

BundtCake · 29/05/2022 17:55

I’m sure the IT issues are code for ā€œwe don’t have enough staff.ā€ It’s awful I’m so sorry OP.

Echobelly · 29/05/2022 18:08

We were told 'staffing issues' - how they didn't know this before people were boarding I don't understand. 😔I know this is sometimes because crew have been on too long and can't work any more - DH though that might be the issue - although it was delayed only by an hour, which isn't that long in the scheme of things, and we saw a flight taking off six hours later earlier on! It was frustrating as the airport was actually very quiet and it didn't feel like things were going wrong everywhere; we seemed to be the only cancelled flight on the board.

This has made me very wary of taking evening flights now, as if they go wrong, you're really screwed. I'm relieved our summer holiday flights are midday out and morning back as at least if something goes wrong you might find a solution, though I'm now a bit nervous that these problems will get worse, not better, over the summer. Though at least we fly towards the end of the hols, not the beginning.

Echobelly · 29/05/2022 18:09

*six hours late, I mean, not later!

Hellsbe · 29/05/2022 18:39

Glad you managed a holiday op. Enjoy France.
our easyjet flight was cancelled to Budapest tomorrow. Only saw it yesterday when we went on the booking!
Got an email this morning.
We couldn’t find an alternative flight as the times/days just didn’t work.

Have applied for refund and compensation. Luckily, we were 24 hours away from being able to cancel our accommodation for no fee.
we’ve just booked a few days in Wales on a travelzoo voucher.

Echobelly · 29/05/2022 18:59

@Hellsbe - OMG! I was considering booking that flight to replace our one out as we could have got to our destination from there. Just as well i didn't then!

Hellsbe · 29/05/2022 21:00

@Echobelly oh no. Bit of a nightmare at the moment!
Flight coming up to Dublin in a couple of weeks. Hope things have calmed down by then!
flying with Ryanair. Never have problems with them.

wordleaddict · 29/05/2022 22:06

Have some flights coming up. Scared they'll be cancelled. Some advice please from those of you poor people who have been through it (sorry for you all). Do you have to have insurance to claim compensation? Or is that just for the hotel if not used?

YetAnotherNam · 30/05/2022 07:31

@Robostripes , first of all, sorry your holiday got cancelled.

my flight this morning has been cancelled too and I don’t know to proceed.

it’s part of a package holiday.

can I ask you if the tour operator called you to discuss options?

if this past week is anything to go by, I’m going to find it hard to reach them by phone and I don’t know if it should be them calling me to discuss what happens next.

thanks a lot!

Muststopeating · 30/05/2022 07:56

They are utter tossers. The spokesperson quote I saw this morning basically said we overbooked, so now we're cancelling some flights or we can't make any of them work. (Clearly I'm paraphrasing). So their greed has caused this!

www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/easyjet-cancellations-flight-consumer-passenger-rights-b2088105.html%3famp

This link states in no uncertain terms what your rights are on the day itself... the Easyjet cancellation section does not mention any of this, other than offering a refund. Again... tossers! Oh and it also has the link to claim the additional £220 compensation per passenger over and above your refund.

In short, they are obligated to rebook you on any airline available... and if that won't be today then they must put you in accomodation. If they don't you can book it all yourself and charge it back. Of course, when disruption is this widespread and there are no flights available then that doesn't necessarily help. But always check ALL airlines before leaving the airport.

I am flying with them in June for my brothers wedding. In fact the entire wedding is flying with them as pretty much the only option in Scotland. This all gives me the fear and I am desperately sorry for anyone who has missed their holiday. Awful for an adult but chuck excited kids into the mix and its just really really shit.

@YetAnotherNam so sorry you’re in the same boat. The holiday co (TUI in our case) did not call us, we called them when it became clear we couldn’t find a reasonable alternative flight and would be missing at least 3/4 days of a 7 day holiday. They then offered us either a full refund or credit to transfer to another holiday - we took the latter and have rebooked for August, by which time I sincerely hope the situation has improved, though who knows! We are having to pay more for the August holiday unsurprisingly but I’m hoping the difference will be covered by the compensation we’re entitled to from EasyJet, which I’ve already applied for.

Good luck sorting it all out, it’s so frustrating and disappointing especially when you have little ones who are so excited and upset for a cancelled holiday.

notimagain · 30/05/2022 08:09

@Echobelly

Sorry you went through this.

DH though that might be the issue - although it was delayed only by an hour, which isn't that long in the scheme of things,

Problem crew usually do multiple flights and there's no way of knowing what's gone on behind the scenes with crews earlier in that day..

If the crew for the flight you were meant to be on had already used all means possible to stretch their allowable working day up to the duty limit in the hope of getting your flight away then even the introduction of another 5 minute delay can stop things stone dead.

The regulators (in the Uk it's the CAA) are very hot on monitoring crew hours and busting the limits, even by a minute, is a very serious offence.

and we saw a flight taking off six hours later

Different crew, possibly at the start of their day...Generally the crew planners won't start switching crews around by for example suddenly changing their roster on the day because it can start to generate a whole new set of problems for other flights.
