I know there are several mnetters coming to Carvoeiro on holiday this summer, as I live here I thought I'd start a thread for any questions anyone might have?

Costa, I'm still hovering. The old Tivoli doesn't look great. I'm going on the recommendation of a friend who said she had a great holiday there. But the old photos look, poor enough. I'm sure the refit will be a big improvement. But can I ask you, if you were to review it, what would you say?

Costacoffeeplease · 17/01/2017 23:32

Obviously I don't know what the renovations will be like, but they're throwing a hell of a lot of money at it - I heard 10m€ and looking at it when we drove past at the weekend, I can believe it

What I can say is, that it's in a really good location, and has brilliant sea views. The bedrooms were tired the last time we were inside but I expect that to change, and they're reducing the number of rooms to make them bigger

When are you planning on coming over?

Thanks Costa. Planning for last week in June and 1st week of july. I agree it looks very tired. I was surprised my friend recommended it when I saw the pictures. But she did, and said it was one of their best holidays.

Am trying to get through to their reservations atm, not happening just new!

Costacoffeeplease · 18/01/2017 10:10

Probably based on the location - and on Carvoeiro itself of course Wink

At the moment the building is just a shell, you can see straight through it from the road. I don't know when they plan to re-open, so that's my only concern, when will it be finished!

Just checked on booking.com and they are quoting prices for June/July so it looks like it will be open again by then

And according to this article portugalresident.com/major-facelift-takes-tivoli-carvoeiro-to-five-star-status
It's reopening in April

Finally booked tonight, Costa. Flipping flights of course have sky-rocketed with my dithering. Changed the dates to make a marginal saving on the flights, as you do. Like it makes a huge saving Hmm Anyway, looking forward to the holiday now, and will keep this thread for restaurant recommendations!

Costacoffeeplease · 26/01/2017 00:06

Grin hope you have a great time, check in here and let me know how it goes Smile

Will do Costa. Smile I hope the hotel building is rattling along - don't want to stay on a building site!!Grin

Costacoffeeplease · 26/01/2017 19:27

It would definitely be a bit draughty at the moment Smile

Costa I'm going in circles trying to book a week in April. Ideally we'd like a villa with heated pool but on a hotel complex for security. We are hiring a car so location is not so important. Do you think this is necessary or is a villa the best option? Thank you for this wonderful thread

Costacoffeeplease · 28/01/2017 13:45

There are villas with pools on developments like rocha Brava and quinta do Paraiso - and vale do Milho and Areias dos Moinhos are all villas. None of them are gated but as long as you're sensible about locking up and closing Windows and shutters, and aren't in a very remote location, I think you'll be fine

Costacoffeeplease · 28/01/2017 13:56

If you're hiring a car, there's also Carvoeiro Clube and Clube Atlantico

Thanks. I will start looking now.

Dazzalm · 28/01/2017 15:03

For a complex (with indoor heated pool) and if you will have a car, I can highly recommend Monte Santo. They have apartments and townhouses. We have been twice and love it.

Costacoffeeplease · 28/01/2017 15:04

There aren't any villas there though

At least it gives you an idea of the location, views etc, it popped up on my fb newsfeed earlier and I thought of you straight away Grin

Has anyone been to Colina da lapa? Apologies if it's been mentioned earlier.

Costacoffeeplease · 01/02/2017 13:18

I think someone mentioned it upthread - I haven't stayed there but no where it is, can I help?

OP posts:
chattypatty · 01/02/2017 14:57

Lazy me. Just found the bit up thread. Still trying to work out where to stay after having the budget slashed.

Costacoffeeplease · 01/02/2017 15:06

It looks nice but you do need a car there

What's your budget and when are you looking to come over?

Hi costa, looking at coming to Portugal this year-your area or nearby , we are looking for private villa, not on a complex or even a particularly built up cluster but I seem to have exhausted all my search skills and can't find any available for our dates.
I have tried holiday lettings, owners direct. None of the travel operators or James villas online are any good as they seem to have Thursday & Saturday check ins on their properties.
Cheeky question at the end of this (as I know you are not a travel agent) do you know of any good villa sites online that have a selection in Portugal or anything?
