I know there are several mnetters coming to Carvoeiro on holiday this summer, as I live here I thought I'd start a thread for any questions anyone might have?

Costa, we are heading your way in July and can't wait. We will have our 5 year old with us and we are staying in Monte Dourado. Can you recommend a couple of very child friendly restaurants (though I'm sure they're all great) for the first couple of nights? Thanks

Costacoffeeplease · 15/05/2016 17:02

Most restaurants here are very child friendly, and from monte dourado you can walk to 30 or 40 - what sort of food/budget are you looking at?

It's been confirmed that there will be live music/entertainment on the square from 1 June as usual. Black and White Night is 18 June

Hi costa, I've been following this thread for a while as I've wanted to visit carvoeiro for years - we are flying out this Friday and I'm so excited!!

Thank you very much for all the restaurant recommendations, I've noted them down and I was just saying to DP yesterday that we should try to find some places with live music. Then I remembered this thread and checked to see if you had added any posts recently and your last message made me so happy!

We are staying in Algar Seco Parque as neither of us are that fond of driving abroad, will we be able to get to most of/all the restaurants you've mentioned on foot please? We will have a 4 year old and (just) 1 year old with us so I was wondering if there are any play parks near us in case dd wants to go.

I think about half the people who visit carvoeiro this year will have been inspired by this thread, I hope the Portugese tourist board are suitably compensating you! Grin

If you walk along from algar Seco Parque towards the beach you'll find a playground at the top of the cliffs by the church, just before the road dips down to the town. You can walk along the pavement, but I'd go on the boardwalk, fantastic views from there and it will take you to where they're building the new amphitheatre, and beyond it is the church and playground

The on site restaurant is great, lovely salads and club sandwiches for lunch, good in the evening too but only opens until about 9. You're also close to A Boneca, lots of steps down from the car park where the road ends but a unique location for a drink or a meal

You're in a great location, you can walk to all of the restaurants I've mentioned except Bella Vita, O Farol, O Stop at Centeanes beach and Rei Das Praias (but that's a drive for anyone)!

There are other places with live music, Taste often has a singer, as does A Vela but lots of people move towards the square in the evening for a nightcap or an ice cream, and to see what music/entertainment is on

Be prepared for the hills, bring comfy shoes or flip flops, but you can also get a taxi back up if necessary - there's a taxi rank by Smilers/Colombos, just by the square

Hope you have a great time - anything else just shout Grin

By the way, your location is similar to monte dourado, just the opposite side of Estrada do Farol (restaurant hill) so you can also walk to the same number of bars/restaurants/cafes/shops

Thanks Costa, , much appreciated.

I just remembered another couple of things, are there any places you would recommend close to ASP for breakfast please (in case we fancy somewhere different). Also which is the closest supermarket or shop please? Just for a few essentials when we arrive. Thank you very much, counting down the days now!

Costacoffeeplease · 31/05/2016 10:01

Cafe fino is nice for breakfast, on the right hand side just after the Mirachoro Praia hotel as you go down restaurant hill towards the beach

There are two small shops nearby - the first one is next to Vimar restaurant just opposite the turning to algar Seco from the top of restaurant hill, and the other is on the left opposit the Mirachoro Praia

Hi Costa! We've just managed to book a villa for August (literally the last one left!) and I'm so excited after reading your thread. Ive noted down all the restaurants and can't wait to try them.
We have a villa overlooking the Gramacho Course of the Pestana Golf Club, I just wandered if there are any restaurants within walking distance? We are planning on hiring a car (need a 7seater) so can drive into Carvoeiro itself as apparently it's not walking distance.
Thanks in advance!

MiniCooperLover · 03/07/2016 16:21

Costa, when we went to Carveiro about 8/9 years ago we went to a restaurant up a hill which was in a little square of restaurants and bars and had amazing stone steak. I think the square had an Irish bar and several restaurants. Does that make any sense? If so is the steak restaurant still there??

Costacoffeeplease · 03/07/2016 16:46

Sorry I missed this - there isn't anything within walking distance of Gramcho except the clubhouse. The nearest restaurants are in Sesmarias, Donato's for great pizzas and the Michelin-starred Bon Bon! (I haven't been since it was awarded the Michelin star last year!)

In the other direction is Ferragudo which has lots of nice restaurants and a square down near the harbour, and Praia de Caneiros with the famous Rei Das Praias beach restaurant (excellent fish but quite pricey now) and Praia Grande which has several bars and restaurants - we go to Club Nau which often has live music through the summer - there's also a small children's playground (lots of steps down to the beach)

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 03/07/2016 16:48

Mini that sounds like Monte Carvoeiro - I think the stone steak place (Fernando's?) is still there, plus O Salmao. A Tasquinha and Elliotts are all worth a visit

I was just thinking earlier that I should update this thread for anyone on their way over in the next few weeks - thanks for giving me a shove Smile

It's verrrry hot at the moment - 35ish, so bring plenty of sun cream Grin

Happy to answer any more questions....

jonsnowswildlinglover · 03/07/2016 18:25

Thanks Costa! Great to know about the children's playground as my kids are 6,4, and almost 2. Are taxi's quite easy to organise for trips into Ferrragudo/Carvoeiro for the evening?

Costacoffeeplease · 03/07/2016 18:41

Yes, there's a taxi rank near the beach in Carvoeiro - I use this number for taxis 282 460 610 but once you've used one once you can ask them for a card with their mobile number

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 03/07/2016 19:04

There's also a playground up on the cliff by the church in Carvoeiro, to the left of the beach as you look out to sea

Hi Costa
Can you recommend an agent with property for sale? (Vila Nova)
Do you know how much a 2/3 bed apt would be?
TY

Costacoffeeplease · 03/07/2016 20:26

I don't know anyone specifically for Vila nova, but 2 bed apartments in Carvoeiro start around 160.000 and 3 beds (pretty rare) around 220.000 - obviously they can be more depending on location and condition

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 03/07/2016 20:26

Those prices are in euros
