I know there are several mnetters coming to Carvoeiro on holiday this summer, as I live here I thought I'd start a thread for any questions anyone might have?

We first holidayed at Quinta do Paraiso when DCs were 5 and 1. The walk into town is fine - bit of steep push uphill on the way back, but perfectly doable.
The communal pools are great for kids and there's an Animation team which puts on a daily kids' club plus mini disco etc.
There are plenty of private villas to rent if you prefer that - otherwise the two-bedroom bungalows are good (but go for 'Superior' as these are updated to meet certain requirements).

Following all the advice on here we have booked QDP for two weeks in August through a private let on homeaway. Really looking forward to it and just trying to decide about car hire now.

I keep reading about all the beaches you can drive to, but I'm wondering whether parking is a nightmare in August, or is it just Carvoeiro itself that's a problem?

Costacoffeeplease · 18/01/2016 16:42

Hope you have a great time. A hire car can be a pain in summer but if you want to be able to explore a bit further afield then it is a good idea. You could always get airport transfers then hire a car just for part of your stay? Most places will deliver it to your accommodation

We're flying out for 2 weeks on Sunday. We had a villa on serra mar for about 30 years. Love the Algarve. We sold the villa when my dad died and his ashes are scattered in the garden he lovingly created over there.

The weather forecast isn't looking too promising. If you read this in time please let me know what clothing you'd recommend us to bring.

Thank you 😊

Costacoffeeplease · 31/03/2016 08:39

A bit of everything! Yesterday was really hot but the evenings are still cool and there is the possibility of showers next week - which I'm not impressed with as our house is due to be painted Angry

The sun is shining brightly at the moment but there's a bit of a breeze

Bless the Algarve and it's changeable weather! I'm obsessively checking holiday weather as if that's going to make any difference! Just hoping it doesn't rain for the whole 2 weeks!

Any thoughts on indoor activities if it does? We're staying at Oasis Parque near Portimao.

Costacoffeeplease · 31/03/2016 10:58

I'm sure it won't rain every day - there's the cinema in portimao, normal films are usually in English with PT subtitles but for children's films they're sometimes dubbed so look for VO (original version) or check at the ticket office. I think there's 10 pin bowling in Albufeira, there's the Parque Das Minas in monchique, although we haven't been as we don't have kids

The weather forecast before we came out to our place in Luz was rubbish- rain and cloud all the way.

Since 20th March we have had a few drops of rain overnight and one cloudy day! It is cool at night and there is a bit of a cool breeze later in the day but beautiful blue skies and bright sun for most of the days! Actually the best Easter weather we have had in five years! ( unlike last summer where it was cloud all the way) Angry

I come out here regularly and often find the weather forecast hugely inaccurate. Have a lovely time- the Algarve is just wonderful!

busyboysmum · 01/04/2016 22:25

Thank you. So excited. We've decided to do a bit of travelling around if the weather is rubbish. Maybe pop up to Lisbon for a couple of days

Going to check out that place in Monchique that Costa recommended whatever happens. I always remember one of our first visits to Portugal must have been about 1985 and everything was so cheap. A beer was 6p. My dad checked us into a hotel in Monchique and he'd got dinner bed and breakfast for 4 of us for about £2! My parents were teachers and they'd load us into the car and we would tour Spain and Portugal for the 6 weeks summer holiday.

Beach day today 🌞

Yes it's been lovely today hasn't it? Not too bad yesterday either Smile

We went to Lagos Zoo yesterday which the kids loved. Was very sweet and hands on. Then an evening on the beach. Today has been the weather we were all hoping for though.

PurpleAlerts · 06/04/2016 23:09

Enjoy! Smile

I came home today- weather in Blighty this afternoon has been sunny then pouring with rain then sun then hail then sun then wind... and repeat!

Lagos Zoo is great- Zoomarine is a good day out too and I think it is open now. Might be worth a look?

Hope you enjoy the rest of your Algarve holiday! Looks like it will be hot tomorrow!!

busyboysmum · 06/04/2016 23:56

Thanks Purple. We've been to Zoomarine before and the kids loved it. We'll save it for a less sunny day as we can spend the whole day happily on the beach when the sun is shining 🌞

PurpleAlerts · 07/04/2016 00:57

Nothing to beat Algarve beaches even though the sea is freezing Grin

Must invest in a wet suit!

Costacoffeeplease · 07/04/2016 20:20

Lovely again today - chance of showers Sunday/Monday though

busyboysmum · 07/04/2016 20:57

Did you manage to get your house painted whilst it was sunny? We've had another great day today. Spent the evening at Praia da Rocha marina. Big boys still there playing football on the beach with "Ronaldad" Smile

Costacoffeeplease · 07/04/2016 21:44

They're still here - we lost a couple of days due to rain Sunday and Monday but they're getting on with it now Smile

There's a good Rodizio Pizza place in Praia da Rocha if you go back!

busyboysmum · 07/04/2016 22:53

We enjoyed watching the sun go down at that clubby bar on the beach near the marina. Couple of beers on the extremely comfortable day beds. Lovely 😊
