I know there are several mnetters coming to Carvoeiro on holiday this summer, as I live here I thought I'd start a thread for any questions anyone might have?

Sorry, I also meant to ask. Does Monte Carveoiro have just the one big pool or does it have lots of little pools like Monte Dourado? Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thank you. I'm veering towards Monte Carveoiro for the ease of all the restaurants in the square.

Costacoffeeplease · 18/09/2015 12:23

Hi. I think monte Carvoeiro just has one pool, monte dourado has 5, one heated. I think monte dourado is more convenient for restaurants, eg it's much closer to Estrada do Farol (restaurant hill) and there are ground floor apartments in Mimosa, Girassol and Trevo with very easy pool access, so it might be worth having a trawl through the listing sites for privately owned apartments in these blocks.

Monte Carvoeiro has the MC square, but IMHO is slightly further away from the main restaurant areas - but there's not much to choose between them, personally, I'd go for monte dourado though as I think the apartments are generally nicer (eg all have 2 bathrooms, the kitchens were all replaced a few years ago etc)

Thank you, that's really helpful and I think has helped make my mind up. We loved Monte Dourado when we were there before and having an apartment on the ground floor by the pool will be amazing (I've emailed the resort and specifically asked about ground floor). I'm getting so excited now and it's not even until next Summer, ha. Thanks again.

Costacoffeeplease · 18/09/2015 12:48

I would also check owners direct, homeaway etc, to compare the prices, you might get a better deal going direct to the owner, and you'll be able to see photos of the exact apartment/location etc

OP posts:
MiniCooperLover · 18/09/2015 13:51

I have checked with Owners Direct and none of the apartments listed were ground floor (which I specifically wanted), and the only ground floor one on Homeaway doesn't have air conditioning unfortunately (which I think is important for our 5 year old). Many thanks.

Costacoffeeplease · 18/09/2015 13:56

There is definitely one on homeaway which is ground floor with aircon and direct pool access - I'll PM you

Just a heads up to anyone looking at booking a trip to the algarve, or anywhere in Portugal, next year.

There is already quite a demand for the peak summer weeks, which hasn't happened since 2008/9, plus new rental licensing laws which penalise owners who take too many bookings Confused so I wouldn't expect too many bargains and late deals next year. Once owners have hit the threshold, a lot will just turn enquiries away rather than go into the next level of income

That's good to know, thanks Costacoffeeplease and also many thanks for your advice/help. We've booked Apartment A033 in Narcisco, through the Development.

Have fun!

Costa, we are coming out to Carvoeiro on 23rd October for half term, staying at Monte Santo. I think we will want a car but not sure I want to drive from the airport in the dark (we usually arrive earlier in the day/year so still light). Is there anywhere in CVO where we can just pitch up and get a car for just 2-3 days? Am really struggling to make a decision as this would be my preference as the driver but I realise it's really not cost effective to pay for transfers and a car.

Also the weather forecasts I am looking at here show sun and low 20s for all month EXCEPT half term which is cloudy (although still 20-23c) - typical! Are the Portuguese reports similar? Dare I hope for sunshine?

Either way we're very excited, not been for 4 years but this will be our 5th visit!

Costacoffeeplease · 10/10/2015 08:43

Yes I'm sure you'll be able to hire a car in the village - I wouldn't recommend not pre-booking in summer, but in October it should be ok. One advantage in getting a transfer, and then getting a car once you're here is that you can get away with a smaller car if you're not transporting your luggage to and from the airport!

I've just checked the forecast and we've got showery weather until Thursday, but at the moment it looks ok next weekend - it's actually drizzling at the moment, I think we're getting the tail end of hurricane Joaquín

Exiting times in Carvoeiro - a storm yesterday and an earthquake this morning! Although it is nice and sunny again today Smile

Just seen news of the flooding in Albufeira, so sad.

Costacoffeeplease · 02/11/2015 21:33

Yes it's awful, my husband was in guia yesterday and struggled to get home as the 125 was flooded but we didn't realise how bad it was in Albufeira until last night. There is a Facebook page for anyone who wants to help

I know someone who lost all her animals (chickens, ducks etc) and 2 dogs - I'm just waiting to hear how we can help her - it's very sad

In Carvoeiro we had over 110 mm of rain between 5am and 3pm - more than the average for the whole of November Sad

Just came across this thread carvoeiro sounds lovely! I'm looking fir a resort to suit my hubby myself and daughters aged 2 and 6 were looking for a hotel with kids club evening entertainment within walking distance to a nice resorts with bars restraunts nothing too tacky, are there hotels here you would recommend? Or other resorts near you? Thanks x

Costacoffeeplease · 10/01/2016 19:57

There aren't many hotels in Carvoeiro, it's more of a villa and apartment resort - but there is the Mirachoro Praia, the Tivoli Almansor and the Carvoeiro Sol - maybe worth googling to see if they would be suitable?

There is normally live music and entertainment in the square each night between June and September, and this tends to be the focus for most families and holidaymakers (and locals) throughout the summer

Big shout out to costa coffee or anyone who can help! Hoping for some advice on villas in Carvaeiro. Spent a few nights here last summer, totally loved it and now want to return for a few weeks holiday with my family in early June. However, we really don't want to hire a car and are finding it difficult to find villas within walking distance to beach, restaurants etc. Even if we could walk down to centre and taxi it home, this would be ideal. I've been looking for a few weeks and they all seem to be at least 10 minute drive. Or failing that can anyone advise another area of Portugal which we may like if we loved Carvaeiro? Loved the square, outdoor entertainment etc. & know my 3 lively kids would too.

Costacoffeeplease · 13/01/2016 06:32

Have you looked at Vila nova, Quinta do paraiso, monte Carvoeiro, algar seco, Areias dos moinhos?

Quinta do paraiso is quite big, but there are parts which are walkable to the village. There are also some villas close to monte dourado - on Rua do Cerro if you can find one of them? Again, I'm happy to get pms with links to adverts so I can advise on location

OP posts:
Girlred · 13/01/2016 20:09

Thanks Costa, I'm going to check those areas out more tonight. There are so many villas but so many seem to be a fair distance from Carvaeoiro or they are out of budget! Would you recommend Quinta da Paraiso, they seem to have lovely apartments and some villas ( which I wasn't aware of so thanks) but a few mixed reviews. But it definitely ticks the box for location etc. And looks lovely to me. There are a few villas near the Solferias hotel but they look pretty basic but they might be all we need. I'm off work tomorrow so will have all day to check them out!

Costacoffeeplease · 13/01/2016 20:16

Quinta do paraiso is fine - the properties are older but most have been upgraded

The area near solferias is fine too (not the hotel itself though, it's very dated apparently!)

Let me know if you find anything!
