As the original thread is reaching its limits I’ve started a new one for those still wanting advice/support on this crazy journey.

OP posts:

She applied for the CertHe Acting and was put on the reserve list after her recall audition. She didn't apply to the BA because she was worried about funding but we can afford the CertHe so not a problem

Truetoself · 20/04/2026 15:43

@Pianochord did she apply for the CertHe course or get put on there after auditioning for a BA? And is she on reserve for Cert or BA? In any case movements can happen up until term starts. Several people who got places sadly won’t be able to sort out funding

Congratulations to your DD! My son is off to Arts Ed on the Acting Cert HE and very excited! He applied to the BA but this was actually the best outcome as we also can't afford the BA but can manage the Cert HE fees 😊 No guarantees, but I think there's a great chance of coming off the reserve list as other students accept degree offers, which are coming out thick and fast this week. My son accepted his Arts Ed offer over some degree offers as he loved it so much, but I'm sure there will be people on reserve who are keen to go straight to degree. Fingers crossed for your DD!

Has anyone heard of any movement on the Laine reserve list?

stargirl111 · 22/04/2026 10:09

hi! has anyone heard anything back from central final round classical and contemporary? my final was 2 weeks ago x

JustDramaMumThings · 22/04/2026 11:31

MimiGC · 15/04/2026 13:52

I know! I think keeping teenagers waiting so long before rejecting them is very shabby treatment. My DD had also emailed them to enquire what was happening and didn’t even get a reply.

Hey! Did your DD ever get a reply from RCS? My DD sadly received a rejection yesterday also, after waiting over 11 weeks. She's sent an email asking if someone can explain the process as to why they are held so long for it ultimately to be a rejection. Such a poor show dragging it out like that :( In all honesty she isn't even bothered about the rejection, as she personally felt out of all her auditions, her RCS was probably her worst, but it's the process afterwards she is really disappointed with.

Yes, same - she got a rejection after 3 months. RCS was her first audition on 12th January! Fingers crossed for your DD in Wales.

Ah sorry, I think I read your comment that I was replying to wrong, I thought your DD had emailed RCS after her rejection to enquire about the process and being left for so long, so I was wondering if they had replied to her question about that.

My DD did email them after the rejection just querying the process, to be fair they replied late on yesterday stating that she had been in a "consideration" pot but had wanted to see others first before making their final decision. I just think it's a strange process to follow at first round stage, like surely it's just a yes or no that they want to see them again at second round. I could see this happening from 2nd into 3rd round stage but if they are that unsure about them just from first round, then was there really any hope of them making the final cohort? All a bit strange and never experienced this from anywhere over the last 3 years. Anyway, at least they replied back :) Onwards and upwards for both our DD's! Massive good luck for RBC tomorrow :D

Just a heads up waiting for anyone on a waitlist for Conti. My DD has her audition there today and they have said that tomorrow is their final audition of the year so things will definitely move after the results of these auditions

What do people know of Leeds Conservatoire for Acting BA?

DS only applied to a couple of places - doesn't want London drama schools as we already live here and he wants to leave home - he only applied to Leeds, LIPA and Guildford School of Acting

LIPA rejected at self tape (he didn't give them what they asked for, because he didn't read things properly so his own fault!).

He auditioned for Leeds and was offered a place and he has an audition for GSA in a couple of weeks - but he is feeling very much like taking Leeds and blowing off GSA. He liked Leeds as a town and loved the Conservatoire.

I am a little reluctant as it is so new for acting and hasn't got a reputation yet - GSA has a great reputation and is closer to home. I worry that Leeds will not be the school to help with his future career. There are so many new schools popping up that I don't know if Leeds will be viewed like them, or if the fact they were established as a conservatoire for decades before they started offering Acting will make it stand apart form some of the new drama schools.

They have agent showcases and are Spotlight/Equity accredited but I dont' know if that is enough.

I feel he should still audition for GSA and if he gets an offer then he has a decision to make, and if not then he has Leeds. If he gives up on GSA before the audition I feel he is selling himself short.

I want someone to tell me that if he does give up on GSA that he will be OK!

Truetoself · 23/04/2026 14:30

i think you are right. He should try for GSA

Newgirls · 23/04/2026 18:01

Has anyone heard of any movement on the Laine reserve list?

I think Dada funding has to be accepted within 2-3 weeks and many people will have their full results from all auditions (or nearly) and know about funding. So imagine people will start working out where they want to go? Movement will happen quite speedily from end of next week (start of May) though some may ask for an extension to confirming their spot?
Have you emailed the school to ask how big the waitlist is and where you are on it? Fingers crossed for you. Is it their first choice?
I think movement can happen right up until term almost starts.

Funallround · 23/04/2026 19:24

Added to say we know people holding offers who have not said yet if they are taking the spot. I imagine maybe the dada offers take a while to work down the list? Funding is such a huge part of the decision I'd think this would slow it down? But we also know lots who have already either accepted / and or turned down the place.

Funallround · 23/04/2026 19:27

I have heard it's common for some colleges to send out more offers than spots based on annual acceptance rates so there is also that to factor in? But I don't know that so take that lightly. But worth considering. People on here know more than me so they may know whether this is lore or not!

Yes, he should audition for GSA, then he can make an ‘informed’ decision.

Leeds is just starting to come to the fore, particularly in MT, I’m sure Acting will follow. However GSA has an established reputation.

My daughter is at GSA, so maybe I’m biased, but she loves it there. She has friends at Leeds who were at LIPA 6th form with her, but when they chat, she feels she is getting more input at GSA.

it’s not easy to get into, the numbers they take are low compared to Leeds, but if he did get an offer at least he has choices and knows for sure he made the right one.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 23/04/2026 20:29

We have a good friend at Leeds who turned down an arguably more prestigious place to go there because they felt so at home and that it had more to offer in terms of the wider music scene. They aren’t regretting their decision one bit! Absolutely loving it and the teaching is excellent.

Do the GSA audition - I’d suggest you really can’t make a fully informed decision until you’ve been through the full process at these places. But if he has a choice to make and he still chooses Leeds, please don’t worry! It’s a great place to live and train. Leeds are very conscious that they are still building the reputation and go out of their way to provide excellent opportunities.

theatrekidmum · 23/04/2026 20:58

thanks - just need to persuade him to put the proper effort in for the GSA audition! I hope he get to make the choice - but happy that he has a place in somewhere he cares about.

@Dingbat42how did she feel it went? My DD really enjoyed it, which makes the outcome even harder if it’s a no! She’s just recovering from laryngitis but went as positively as she could. Wishing your DD all the best, no the hard part is the waiting.
We’re at GSA tomorrow, then can breath a sigh of relief auditions are over!
