I am starting this thread in response to my DD's not receiving an offer from Oxford yesterday. She is disappointed, but hasn't taken it too badly, so that could be worse I suppose. Trouble is she gave so little thought to other universities, and her UCAS application was so specific to the course at Oxford we are a little bit worried that she might not even get other offers. Her second choice would be Durham but the course there is very very different to the one at Oxford, so we could imagine them reading her personal statement and rejecting her out of hand!

@Ceramiq Not necessarily for law though. It’s a very different offering. Depends what end aims are.

Long time no posts after slight derailment… but wanted to update today as my son has received his IB results. He was interviewed by Oxford but no offer for Comp Sci which he handled amazingly well (better than me!). Anyway, he has an IB score of 41 incl 7s in maths and physics, which gets him very comfortably into Warwick (his new first choice) who only needed 39 from him (like Oxford). He’s just so delighted, ridiculously happy and deservedly so. Just wanted to share a happy ending on this “redirected” thread. Best of luck to those awaiting results in August 🤞

Great news @Nuffalready- congrats to your DS! My DS has also firmed Warwick cs after a Cambridge rejection, and heard so many positive things about it too. Feels like a place they can study hard but also enjoy life and still have plenty of opportunities. Mine will still have a punt in the ARP just for the hell of it, but definitely no disappointment now and v happy with choices. Must be great to have the results in and enjoy summer knowing it’s all set now.

Out of interest was your sis privately educated?

Why is LSE better? We are looking at both for ds.

LSE is international well known for the social sciences and has a better reputation. My son went to LSE. Miles better than Durham

Durham is quite an insular university which doesn't have a strong international research reputation. LSE is a mega brand that attracts academics (and students) from all over the world and has an unparalleled reputation for its careers service. Completely different leagues.
