my DC holds an offer for mechanical engineering there, we don't know well
I am getting the feeling that Endcliffe is quite popular with undergraduates. Any words of wisdom for someone not local and applying remotely please?

many thanks

Thanks @Littlefish, that’s good to know.
What’s second year accommodation like, by the way? Did your DD have to start looking fairly early?

The 2nd year accommodation search starts really early (end of October/early November). It means that they have to commit to living with people they barely know! DD’s 2nd year house was in a group of 7, only 4 of which she knew. The others were friends of friends. It generally worked ok though.

Her 3rd year house is just 4 of them who know each other really well.

I completely agree about signing up for the bills package - it saves so much messing around.

Be aware that most houses have at least one downstairs bedroom.

I didn’t see any. But you are allowed to drive your car right in front of the halls (Endcliffe), do a very quick unloading and then go and park the car elsewhere.

Hevdoc · 11/09/2025 19:58

Thanks. We need to go to Froggart.

Hevdoc · 11/09/2025 19:59

I think we have a time slot of 6pm but need to be there earlier, so wondered if there might be trolley to help take stuff over

NCTDN · 11/09/2025 20:30

@Hevdoc which flat?

ButterPiesAreGreat · 11/09/2025 21:28

Hello, DD is about to start her second year at Sheffield. We decided to go a different route and went for private halls in the city centre. She went over with her friend who had an offer for Sheffield and DH and went round all the options.

it was a good job they booked it as her friend ended up at Hallam through clearing. She is in IQ Brocco and we like that everything is included. It ended up being a year round contract but was still cheaper than uni halls but that meant she could leave her stuff there over the summer.

She is 10 mins walk from lectures. She’s not bothered about missing social stuff although still goes out with people from her course, but they will have two more people they know in their flat this year. The place has a common room and social space they’ve used a few times. The best thing is her maintenance loan covers her rent, and I just give her a monthly allowance to live off.

Loads live in Crookesmoor or Broomhill. More in Crookesmoor.

Offtheygo · 18/09/2025 21:54

thank you very much, I will look them up.

Moving in weekend is here! Did a supermarket trip here today so as not to have to find one in Sheffield. DS has so much stuff - I hope it fits in his room/kitchen.

Wondering if anyone has moved in to Ranmoor/Endcliffe yet and how smoothly it went? Were there queues to get on site - should I allow for extra time?

NCTDN · 20/09/2025 18:34

We’ve moved ds into Endcliffe today. Very well organised but absolutely heaving. They say it’s half an hour parking then move to overflow but cars were all over the place, not helped by the torrential rain!

NCTDN · 20/09/2025 18:35

We’ve been to Tesco alongside hundred of other students and their parents. DS has kept some food in his room as we stocked up and knew there was too much for the kitchen cupboards he’s got. Which halls are you going to?

NCTDN · 20/09/2025 18:37

@Changes17 just looked back and see you’re ranmoor. Think the queues were worse there but nobody checked anything about times we were meant to arrive.

Beamur · 20/09/2025 18:44

Just dropped mine off in Endcliffe. Very busy, congested and took ages! Nice room though and lovely view.

purplewibble · 20/09/2025 19:02

Packing at the moment and driving up to Sheffield (Allen court) tomorrow. Have a 5pm slot - hopefully won’t be too busy then in terms of parking. DS seems to have a packed week course-wise despite it not formally starting until the following Monday

MyPresumablyScrotum · 20/09/2025 19:29

Traffic was dreadful today at Ranmoor. They were doing their best but the roads aren't wide enough and they have to stop everyone so people can leave. And the rain! It took 30 mins just from the start of the queue to park up, and then after our 30 mins the advice was to park at Endcliffe Village but it was gridlocked getting there so I had to dump the car somewhere else. There was one family who just parked outside the entrance on Fullwood road and trolleyed their stuff in. Don't blame them.

Changes17 · 20/09/2025 19:44

Ah, thanks for all your moving in updates. I think we will try and get there early. Did you have to go somewhere else to get keys first or just straight to the relevant apartment building?
Weather forecast looks fairly good for tomorrow, thankfully, so we should dodge the rain experience.

I hope all DC who have already arrived are settling in well - and that you're not missing them too much!

MyPresumablyScrotum · 20/09/2025 19:47

DC walked up and collected keys while we were in the massive queue. We could have got the keys after parking too. No one checked whether we were in the right time slot either.

TheGrimSmile · 21/09/2025 05:48

Where do they collect the keys from?

MyPresumablyScrotum · 21/09/2025 08:30

Ranmoor is The Edge and for Endcliffe it's The Ridge. I didn't see him do it as I was in the queue but from the gesturing it was just past where we parked to offload and they parked us first and then were going to send us on foot to get the keys.

It stopped raining in the wee hours and now the sun is shining, the rivers running down the side of the road have dried up - it'll be a much nicer day to move in - and to drive home.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/09/2025 08:57

It’s bright and sunny in Sheffield atm!

Decorhate · 21/09/2025 09:28

Felt sorry for those moving in yesterday in the rain. (We moved as in on Friday to a pretty grim studio - he's in final year). Also the helpers who were out in it all day.

Thanks. We're on our way, driving across the moors in the sunshine. Glad she's moving in today and not yesterday.
