my DC holds an offer for mechanical engineering there, we don't know well
I am getting the feeling that Endcliffe is quite popular with undergraduates. Any words of wisdom for someone not local and applying remotely please?

many thanks

Was it a firm, insurance or clearing place?

MyPresumablyScrotum · 23/08/2025 12:32

Yes, we've got a room number and have booked a moving in slot - firm offer

ramonaqueenbee · 23/08/2025 12:56

Same as above, firm offer, moving in slot booked.

Does anyone know if the beds in Endcliffe are single or double? Child is not responsive on this question...

When we looked round Endcliffe on open day the bedrooms we saw were all single beds

Changes17 · 23/08/2025 16:50

The standard rooms were all single but there were also some slightly larger rooms with three quarter sized mattresses. They were called something like ‘premium’ rooms, from memory.

purplewibble · 23/08/2025 17:15

Accommodation confirmed and paid for, moving date booked. DS is at Allen court, which I think has 3/4 beds? Does anyone know if (non-heated) clothes airers are allowed? I had another DS at Bristol, where they were not allowed in his hall.

Dd was in Encliffe. It’s all single beds as far as I know.

However, it’s worth having a double duvet as it’s much more comfortable to be able to wrap up in one.

Dd and all of her friends had mattress toppers which made the beds much more comfortable.

ramonaqueenbee · 23/08/2025 17:43

Thank you so much! Mattress topper is in the list! We only have double beds here so the rest of his bedding will be double, just sheets needed.

Exciting times for them!

@ramonaqueenbee - @Changes17 is absolutely right! Dd had forgotten - one of her flatmates had a bigger bed. She’s not sure whether it was a full double or a small double though.

ramonaqueenbee · 23/08/2025 17:45

Thank you! Thats really helpful as at least I can check what he's booked!

My DS was in Allen Court and took a clothes airer. He did have a 3/4 bed but I bought double size of everything.

troppibambini6 · 24/08/2025 15:38

Don’t know if this will help anyone but this is a picture of DDs room in Allen court. 3/4 bed but we used all double bedding. Would definitely recommend a mattress topper. Dd says hers was the smallest room on her floor.

Oh and get a fan. The windows only open a couple of inches and it’s gets hot.

Changes17 · 24/08/2025 16:57

Thanks @troppibambini6! Reminds me to put a lamp on the list - unless it was already there?

troppibambini6 · 24/08/2025 17:48

@Changes17no we took that with us.

ramonaqueenbee · 24/08/2025 19:56

So helpful, thank you.

Could anyone give an idea of what their dc weekly budget was?

Littlefish · 25/08/2025 19:31

We paid for dd’s accommodation and she then has the minimum loan as her weekly budget. I think it works out at about £120 per week. It’s been more than enough. In the summer term, which is shorter, she tends to come home with money.

Littlefish · 25/08/2025 19:32

Endcliffe is very hot too! Dd had a set of fleece bedding but never used them because they were much too hot.

Changes17 · 25/08/2025 21:32

Is it hot all year round or just in the summer?

Littlefish · 25/08/2025 21:56

@Changes17dd says it was hot all year round.

Changes17 · 26/08/2025 09:09

Thanks @Littlefish, that’s good to know.
What’s second year accommodation like, by the way? Did your DD have to start looking fairly early?

DominoDaancing · 26/08/2025 10:15

@Changes17 I just noticed this threat about Sheffield accommodation and thought I'd add to it as DD is just going into 5th year..
She started in Ranmoor, much the same as Endcliffe and then has been in the same student house since then with 5 friends.
The student accommodation in Sheffield is plentiful, so while they do start looking at 2nd year accommodation very early on, don't panic, there always seemed to be lots to go around.

We've always taken the package which includes their bills - so electricity, gas and internet. It probably does work out more expensive, but it's easy and means there are no disagreements about whether to have heating on etc. Plus you can budget easily. DD's house is very large with high ceilings and would have cost a lot to heat, so I think it's been a good idea.
Any questions I'm happy to answer from a parent point of view. Exciting times!

Changes17 · 26/08/2025 10:27

Thanks @DominoDaancing. DS is going to be in Ranmoor too. Good tip on including the bills - very much remember arguments about putting the heating on from my own student days!

Thanks for sharing this! The cushions make it lovely and cosy looking. I'll get some for DS.
