University Offers for 2022 Start

I've heard universities are being more cautious this year, with some stating that they are not going to make most offers until the January deadline, when they can see a clearer picture - because of the over-subscription that happened for last year's students.

I thought it might be interesting to see which universities are making offers for which subjects.

We've only heard from York so far, for Computer Science. York University do seem to be making early offers.

Anyone else heard from any universities? Think it would be good to know what is happening out there :)

Alsoplayspiccolo it is nice to hear of another LibArts applicant - mostly I am met with blank stares when I mention it. 😂

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 15/12/2021 11:53

Can I join you please? DD applying for Politic and IR. Has offers from Bath, Nottingham, Liverpool & Cardiff. She had an interview for HSPS at Cambridge but is not holding out much hope on that. It is a huge toss up now between Bath and Nottingham, went to visit Bath in September and loved it and we are off to Nottingham in Feb for an offer holders day.

Bath is an BSC and Nottingham BA I am not sure what the difference is but will need to look into it. Nottingham closer to home and cheaper than Bath but Bath has (what I may wrongly perceive) a better reputation for Politics plus she has the offer of a year in industry. Tough decisions ahead!

Fruitygal · 15/12/2021 21:34

@bonnieliesovertheocean my DS2 was super independent and refused to forward unlike DS1 and currently DD. He managed to miss accommodation booking for his insurance uni that he could have done in the July as he didn’t read the email. So ended up behind the clearing kids for halls choice.?!? Never again

Fruitygal · 15/12/2021 21:35

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango loving the name!! Welcome ! Is this your first child to go through the great uni process ?

NCTDN · 15/12/2021 21:45

@bonnieliesovertheocean my dd has applied for liberal arts. She's had an offer from Bristol but no mention of an offer holder day yet.

Pieceofpurplesky · 15/12/2021 21:55

DS got his offer from Lancaster at ABB rather than AAB.

Sounds like she has great options. Hope she enjoys deciding. Will she wait for offer holder days before making her mind up?
bonnieliesovertheocean · 15/12/2021 22:10

NCTDN thank you. Good to know.

Yes I feel your pain. DS likes to operate on a parental 'need to know' basis. I'm going to have a chat with him.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 16/12/2021 06:06

@Fruitygal Thanks glad you got it! Yes DD my first born.

@bonnieliesovertheocean Not sure yet we have not heard when Baths open day is. Tricky thing is Nottingham accommodation opens for firmed students on March 31st and it is first come first served basis, DD particularly keen on one block so would like to get in there with request asap. Bath is allocated at random based on preference but quite expensive in comparison. Hoping Bath will be prior to end of March so she can choose. At the moment she is leaning towards Nottingham but the offer holders day will tell all I think.

mnp321 · 16/12/2021 07:34

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango my son is also applying for Politics/IR and has offers from Bath and Nottingham. They could end up on the same course.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 16/12/2021 08:55

@mnp321 Ah thats good, has your DS decided on which he will choose yet? It is a tough decision for them. I fear for DD it may come down to finance with Bath being more expensive. I am unable to help her financially so she will be relying on her loan and a small amount of trust fund. She fell in love with Bath when we went there September, it was helped by the fact it was a day freshers were arriving and there was a real buzz around the campus. That said I hear Nottingham is equally as lovely so we shall see.

LlamasintheFog · 16/12/2021 11:02

Offers from Loughborough and Sheffield for Economics and from Cardiff for Banking & Finance here. Only submitted on 6/12 so surprised to have these pre-Christmas

mnp321 · 16/12/2021 13:36

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango he hasn't decided yet. Durham is his first choice (but hasn't heard yet). He really liked Exeter and Nottingham (and particularly their sports stand at the open day) but wasn't quite so keen on Bath. Although he is swayed by them having a premiership rugby team to watch (a rubbish reason I know...).

He has an offer from Warwick and I think he feels it perhaps has the edge in terms of employability over some of his other choices, but it's very marginal. He hasn't put down a back up choice with a significantly lower offer so it's quite a risky approach.

Interested to read your comments on politics at Bath v Nottingham thank you.

CaliforniaDrumming · 16/12/2021 22:05

DS just got an offer from Warwick for Economics. He is very thrilled, as are we! He had a couple of rejections and was beginning to panic.

GU24Mum · 16/12/2021 22:08

Great news @CaliforniaDrumming !

I'm only just joining as it has taken my lovely DC forever to do the personal statement so the form wasn't submitted til Tuesday. One acknowledgment and I suspect she may now need to wait til the New Year for any offers. Fingers crossed!

Decorhate · 17/12/2021 16:49

@CaliforniaDrumming Congratulations to your Ds on his Warwick offer! My son is still waiting to hear from 2 places (less competitive than where your Ds applied to & lower entry requirements than his predicted grades) but presumably it will be after Christmas now. But he’s had an offer from his favourite so not too bothered.

Chewbecca · 18/12/2021 13:07

That's great news California.
DS now has 3 offers for Economics, waiting for Loughborough and St Andrews.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 22/12/2021 09:55

DD has had her first offer - BCC from Reading, for English lit, film and theatre, reduced from BBB, as contextual.
Not her top choice, but she's excited to have one in the bag, and it's the lowest grade requirements (predicted AAB).

TequilaShot · 22/12/2021 16:24

I hope you don't mind me joining. I know it's still early but typically my son's last offer to come in is his first choice. Has anyone been offered a place at Nottingham
on their Mechanical Engineering course? Congratulations to all those that have offers so far!!

Tomnooktoldmeto · 22/12/2021 21:51

Can I join in, have 2 DC waiting for offers (not twins) both with additional needs

DC2 received 2 offers today for Leeds and Sheffield to study history so is very happy

DC1 still waiting for any offers, both hoping for offers from Nottingham as first choice, both applications submitted a week ago

boxcar · 23/12/2021 09:28

Joining in too if that’s ok. I’ve got twins who finally submitted their UCAS applications on the 17th.

DS is applying for geography & has had an offer ABB from Swansea.

DD is applying for English Literature & Theatre Studies and has had an offer from Reading too (BBB). She had a response from Bristol (her preferred choice) yesterday putting her ‘on hold’. I’m worried she could be in for a long, anxious wait which she will find tough.

NCTDN · 03/01/2022 19:53

Have many people heard about offer holder days? So far dd has only heard from Bristol.

OrangeBlossom28 · 03/01/2022 20:20

We've booked offer holder days for York and Southampton so far although are probably going to cancel Southampton as DD2 isn't so keen on Yr1 of the course compared to the others.
Swansea have virtual days which you can book too.

GrandmasCat · 03/01/2022 20:31

It may be more related to the course than the university, for example if a course has far more applications than places available, they may want to have a bigger pool before deciding who they want to interview or make an offer to.

Some academic departments may hold until after January to be more inclusive as the vast majority of applications that arrive by November are from those applying to Oxbridge and other top universities as well as from applicants from private schools, while some very good candidates in state schools are not going to be submitting applications until the January deadline because their schools do not have the same pressure to apply by the October deadline if they do not have many students applying to Oxbridge.

There is also the possibility that your child is in the “bench” while they see if they can get better candidates. It does happen and it is annoying, but it is a much better place to be than in the rejection pool.

And also, there is the possibility that the university may have misplaced your application or it has fallen down the cracks at some point in the process so, if you don’t hear back after 8 weeks, ring the university to check!
