University Offers for 2022 Start

I've heard universities are being more cautious this year, with some stating that they are not going to make most offers until the January deadline, when they can see a clearer picture - because of the over-subscription that happened for last year's students.

I thought it might be interesting to see which universities are making offers for which subjects.

We've only heard from York so far, for Computer Science. York University do seem to be making early offers.

Anyone else heard from any universities? Think it would be good to know what is happening out there :)

@MillicentFaucet seems like you’ve found a mistake in the system but i’d keep quiet about it. We don’t get any contextual as DD is grammar and we are polar 1 I think but the DS1 got two unis giving him contextual a few years back because his sixth form that got lots to uni was in a deprived postcode. A pleasant surprise for us especially as he has dyslexia and it took the pressure off.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 18/11/2021 07:31

DD has offers in from Birmingham, Exeter, Cardiff and Bristol

PermanentTemporary · 18/11/2021 07:35

Ds has Compsci offers from Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol. Leeds say nothing till March.

Siriusmuggle · 18/11/2021 08:37

That’s really interesting. Apparently my child would qualify for a contextual offer based on home postcode. He’s applying for conservatoire rather than university so it doesn’t apply but I had no idea it existed.

Linneasweet · 18/11/2021 11:25

I searched various postcodes yesterday for fun and thought it was very interesting that places like tower hamlet, Newham and hackney in London, who are all classed as deprived areas, would not be classed as contextual. In fact, nowhere in London would be!

Piggywaspushed · 18/11/2021 11:45

My DS's school used to be on various lists because it was low progression to HE. My DS1 got contextual offers. DS2 hasn't. I think there has been a trimming at some unis.

Decorhate · 18/11/2021 17:35

@PermanentTemporary Is Leeds saying that for all courses or just the one your dc is applying for?

Fruitygal · 18/11/2021 19:16

@Piggywaspushed I checked my older DSs sixth form and even though before it was successful its postcode gave the kids contextual - in 2017/2019 but now it would not

Yes it's a a major major bug bear of those of us that work in London unis. Using a different measure (Index of Multiple Deprivation) 40% of London postcodes are deprived but using that POLAR measure it's about 3% Angry
PermanentTemporary · 18/11/2021 22:01

@Decorhate I think it must be Compsci specific because Leeds has definitely offered on another thread!

Gizmo98765 · 18/11/2021 22:54

DS is an early applicant and has offers for York and Lancaster.

Fruitygal · 19/11/2021 06:36

Some courses offer early or later and some whole unis do too. English at York seems to offer within a couple of days where as biology is a couple of weeks and astrophysics still have interviews and law do a self assessment.

angieloumc · 22/11/2021 09:47

@NCTDN

That's so quick *@angieloumc* !
I know! She's thrilled.
Budapestdreams · 24/11/2021 11:41

Any other offers or interviews yet?

DrunkenUnicorn · 24/11/2021 13:05

We got a third offer. This time from Cardiff (still politics and IR). Their standard ABB offer.

Still waiting on Hull and Lancaster

ShaunaTheSheep · 24/11/2021 15:48

All 5 received here now.

Fruitygal · 24/11/2021 15:50

DD has 3 offers now! York, Exeter and Lancaster … waiting on Durham snd Sheffield

Chakraleaf · 24/11/2021 18:20

We've had Gloucester, Plymouth and Chichester

OxanaVorontsova · 24/11/2021 20:04

One of mine has all offers in, the other has 3 offers and Cambridge interview

DrunkenUnicorn · 25/11/2021 12:32

Final offers through now, Hull last night and Lancaster this morning.

Now he’s got to make some decisions, which is the hard bit. He said he was going to email admissions tutors asking about offer holder days.

NiamCinnOir · 25/11/2021 12:37

@drunkenunicorn - congratulations to your ds on receiving 5 offers! Don't let him rush into making any decisions yet though. I don't think UCAS requires a decision to be made on which offer to firm and insure until May, so there's no reason at all why your ds shouldn't just sit on all the offers for at least a few more months. He could well change his mind about his 'favourite' several times over the next few months, particularly if he attends open days or tours.

DrunkenUnicorn · 25/11/2021 13:29

@NiamCinnOir good advice.

I think psychologically there’s a bit of a panic that isn’t necessary. Part panic, part relief I guess.

Hull offered unconditional if he firms them, Lancaster offered BBB if he firms them…

We’ve said well order pizza and have a family movie/games night to celebrate tonight, and then try not to think about it again until he finds out/goes to offer holder days.

DrunkenUnicorn · 25/11/2021 13:29

Thank you for your congratulations too, btw!

NiamCinnOir · 25/11/2021 14:13

Sounds like he has great options @DrunkenUnicorn. Definitely something to celebrate! Smile

Champagnecharleyismyname · 25/11/2021 14:34

DD has 3 offers in, Bristol, Cardiff and Manchester.

Waiting on Imperial and Sheffield.
