University Offers for 2022 Start

I've heard universities are being more cautious this year, with some stating that they are not going to make most offers until the January deadline, when they can see a clearer picture - because of the over-subscription that happened for last year's students.

I thought it might be interesting to see which universities are making offers for which subjects.

We've only heard from York so far, for Computer Science. York University do seem to be making early offers.

Anyone else heard from any universities? Think it would be good to know what is happening out there :)

@DrunkenUnicorn congratulations for your DS - what’s the course? I know that York sent an email with a link to log on to the student portal amd this allowed you to choose on of the offer days. Get him to go through any uni emails as he might not need to email admissions to get the info. Exeter haven’t released their offer days info yet.

My son applied around three weeks ago and has offers (for politics) from Nottingham (first) and Exeter (yesterday). Still waiting on Durham, Warwick and Bath.

Linneasweet · 25/11/2021 21:07

DD got her 1st and 3rd choice offers after 2 days: York and Queens Belfast. Southampton and Bath outstanding. AAB is top expectation and her predicted is A*, A,A.

Fruitygal · 25/11/2021 21:18

Durham won’t be until after the deadline in January if anyone is waiting

Fruitygal · 25/11/2021 21:18

Same with Bath x

Bellie99 · 25/11/2021 21:30

Offer from Exeter and Cardiff. Waiting for Durham, Warwick and St Andrews

OrangeBlossom28 · 25/11/2021 21:39

Joining the thread in anticipation. Application is with school after amendments were made today. DD2 has applied for York, Southampton, Reading, Swansea and UWE for Business and Management.

Calmed · 25/11/2021 21:41

Although Bath have said that most offers will not go out until after the January deadline, some students have already received offers.

Southampton also received now

DrunkenUnicorn · 26/11/2021 06:47

@Fruitygal he’s applied for Politics and International relations.

I’ll get him to look. He may not have had anything as he said he’d had letters from hull and Cardiff as well as the ucas ones and so I think he probably would have said? I’ll double check

Darbs76 · 26/11/2021 09:32

DS has had 1 offer so far from Warwick for MORSE (maths & stats type degree)

Volterra · 26/11/2021 13:24

DS has submitted 3 options so far and had an offer from Bath (Maths).

Chewbecca · 28/11/2021 17:24

Joining this thread - DS submitted yesterday ( to school, not sure how long they will take to add their bit).

Economics at St Andrews ( MA), Loughborough, Birmingham and Strathclyde, Politics & Economics at Nottingham.

DS sent his UCAS form off on 12th November and had 4 out of 5 offers back within a week. We're now just waiting for Exeter's decision. Rather frustrating as you can't accept any offers until all 5 are in.

He's wondering whether to ring them and ask if they'll likely be making a decision on his application prior to Xmas holidays. Anyone had experience of this? I know they operate a 'gathered field' applications procedure but UCAS track states they have until May to respond. That seems so late, given accommodation portals for unis open in March.

Frustrating to submit early and likely be no further forward.

fortheloveofallthings · 29/11/2021 14:19

@halloweenie13

If I could give anyone advice (from a recent grad) avoid University altogether, if you have to study at a home university or on open uni whilst working in a relevant role. Try and get and apprenticeship or training role but do not go to university, it is a waste of time and money and unnecessarily traumatic. Wages don't differ much from experience as long as you have a level 4 and above, and affordability for housing and living costs are much cheaper up north.
I don't think the fact that your uni experience was a waste of time means it's a waste of time for everyone 😂

If Exeter is not one that he wants for either his firm or insurance, I think he can withdraw from the Exeter application, which will allow him to action his firm and insurance. I have not done this before myself, but I've read about it.

Yes, he can do this - being very careful to make sure that he only withdraws his application to that particular university and doesn't withdraw from this year's application cycle in its entirety.

If the department has stated that it will operate a gathered field approach, then it would be unreasonable to expect a response before the end of January at the earliest.

What is the actual accommodation allocation policy at each of his other offered universities? Applications may open in March, but many universities only gather preferences at that stage, making the actual accommodation offer after results day (albeit often earlier to those applying with grades in hand as their offers are nearly all unconditional). I haven't seen any university operating this way imposing an accommodation application deadline earlier than May 31st.

Fruitygal · 29/11/2021 20:11

@Harveypuss don’t make decisions before they go to the offer days for at least their top two. The offer days are a really good chance to understand how the unis teach - your DC will have had links to log in to uni portals to book these. Often kids change their minds so haste to firm can backfire.

My DD was offered early from Exeter last week - depends on your tier relative to the standard offer for the course. Most applicants wait until at least the end of January at Exeter. Durham is the last one we will wait on until Feb I imagine.

Fruitygal · 29/11/2021 20:18

@Harveypuss you’ve only had the form in a couple of weeks - we have friends who submitted early - in mid September and only have 2 offers - my DD was fairly late on 4th November - where does he want to go to and study?

Harveypuss · 29/11/2021 20:51

@Fruitygal; Thanks for your comments. He has had offers from Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham & Reading so far. He wants to study History & Modern Languages (German). He thinks his first choice will be Nottingham or Exeter (if he gets an offer from them) and possibly Reading as insurance.

He was very pleased to get offers from the others back so quickly, though without wishing to burst his bubble, I am told that German is not a popular language to study these days, so courses are harder to fill, though I realise History is still a popular subject.

With regard to accommodation, I thought you had to accept an offer before you could apply for accommodation, but I might be wrong on that? I will certainly tell him to look again at the offer days.

Fruitygal · 29/11/2021 21:00

@Harveypuss - Great choice of unis!! Nottingham and Exeter both great places. DDs bestie is doing French and Spanish and got offers fairly quickly too (including interview at Oxford) definitely a hard degree though with history and a language - do the offer days for those two. I get DD to forward all emails to me after she’s read them so nothing gets missed (DS2 nearly missed out on any accommodation as forgot to read his uni emails when he was in year 13)

Revengeofthepangolins · 29/11/2021 21:23

@Harveypuss How accommodation operates varies between universities - you need to look carefully. From what I have noticed, relatively few open accommodation on a certain date and then just hand out rooms on a first come first served basis. A common pattern is to open in say March and say everyone has same treatment provided they respond by end of May, or whatever. Most don’t actually allocate until offers are in.

So you may well find there is much less benefit to rushing than you might be currently thinking. Research is key.

OrangeBlossom28 · 30/11/2021 12:26

Application was submitted yesterday and a conditional offer from Reading was received today of ABB for Business Management with Placement.

Chewbecca · 30/11/2021 19:06

Wow, that was fast, good stuff!
I think DS’s is still with his school, no further updates have been received from UCAS.

OrangeBlossom28 · 30/11/2021 19:27

So this evening she now has offers from Swansea and UWE and acknowledgment emails from York and Southampton. Very fast considering UCAS received it yesterday lunchtime.
