University Offers for 2022 Start

I've heard universities are being more cautious this year, with some stating that they are not going to make most offers until the January deadline, when they can see a clearer picture - because of the over-subscription that happened for last year's students.

I thought it might be interesting to see which universities are making offers for which subjects.

We've only heard from York so far, for Computer Science. York University do seem to be making early offers.

Anyone else heard from any universities? Think it would be good to know what is happening out there :)

DS has booked in-person offer holder days at Nottingham and Birmingham - both allow one parent (apparently).

Stillgoings · 28/01/2022 11:26

We are going to the offer holder days as my son didn't get to any open days. We were at Lancaster last weekend, York this and Liverpool next. Liverpool is one parent only, the others were two..at Lancaster I even saw a sibling being dragged along

@Volterra

Tango DS has been invited for Bath maths offer holder day, they are online. Don’t think he has signed up to one yet, must prod him a bit.
Thanks for that but nothing for DD yet, maybe different departments are offering dates already. They said between Feb & April.
Fruitygal · 28/01/2022 12:17

Do go to the offer days this is a decision that costs them £30-60k so they need help with navigating the process and the people. Often there are elements of the day they do alone and bits you do with them.

Fruitygal · 28/01/2022 12:18

BTW often the unis are keen to get you to put them first so there’s normally a free lunch 🤣😂

Volterra · 28/01/2022 13:36

Just had a look and Bath are saying all mathematical sciences applicant days are virtual between January and April with separate campus visits in April or May.

Lovemusic33 · 28/01/2022 15:24

That’s good, I didn’t want to be the only parent attending though dd didn’t seem bothered if I was. I was half hoping I could have a day shopping in Bath but dd would rather I went with her.

@GoldenTobes DD has booked on an offer holder day this afternoon for Reading. They are sent out by the relevant dept by the look of it as hers was from Henley Business School. We're booked for the end of our half term week.

@GoldenTobes

My daughter received an offer from Reading earlier in the week. We had an email from the admissions department but can't see any mention of offer visit days. For those with an offer from Reading, did you get a separate email about offer days? Reading was one we didn't get to in Oct so would like to visit snd don't want to miss the days. Thanks
Dd hasn’t received offer holder day from Reading either. English/politics

We've just had the email and letter for the offer day. One Feb, one March and one online. Archeology and ancient history.

NCTDN · 28/01/2022 22:15

Can anyone tell me anything about ucas track? I've read some primer noticed offers on there but dd says you can't log on until you've confirmed your choices?

@OrangeBlossom28 thank you, just checked my daughter's email and we have one about an offer day for Reading so we'll get on and book that. We didn't make it to the visit day last year so this is one we'd like to go along to.

From the UCAS website:

Once you've sent your application and received your welcome email, you can sign in at any time to see how it's progressing.
www.ucas.com/undergraduate/after-you-apply/tracking-your-ucas-application

It's the bit where you see, and indicate your decisions about, the details of the response from the universities applied to, so has to be available from early on in the process (UCAS is the 'broker' re applications and offers, although there will also be direct communication between universities and applicants, e.g. re offer holder days etc).

MarchingFrogs · 29/01/2022 10:28

@Lovemusic33 and @Volterra - apologies if I have misread your posts, but re offer holder days being on-site / online, I think you are talking about different universities? One Bath Spa (English) and the other Bath (Maths)? So may have completely different policies on how they are running events.

Volterra · 29/01/2022 11:00

That sound about right for how with it I am currently Marchingfrogs, thanks 😀

NCTDN · 29/01/2022 11:35

@MarchingFrogs thanks. I did look there but didn't know if anyone knew more. I'm bothered that DD has missed information about offer holder days.

Thank you, yes your right, I kind of thought that after I posted. DD’s is for Bath Spa.

mumwith · 29/01/2022 12:06

Hi all,

I'm new here. I just wonder if any of your kids have experience about applying universities in America? My son is in year 10 in boarding school in UK but keen to apply to some Ivy Leagues universities in US. Not sure how tough can it be.

Thanks

OrangeBlossom28 · 29/01/2022 13:23

My nephew is in this process currently and trying for a sports scholarship. He's Yr12 and has done the SATs once already. The higher the score the better the uni you can apply to, or be considered for. My DS and BIL are paying a company to support with the process. Hopefully others will come along with more info.

mumwith · 29/01/2022 14:17

@OrangeBlossom28 thx you. Do you mind if I can ask what’s is his SAT score?

OrangeBlossom28 · 29/01/2022 14:58

I think the first one he did was around 120 to 130 which isn't good enough for what he's looking at doing. He's repeating.

mumwith · 29/01/2022 15:54

Thank you @OrangeBlossom28 got some ideas now

OrangeBlossom28 · 29/01/2022 16:00

@mumwith Actually I meant 1200 to 1300 was his range, can't remember exact figure. Ignore the 120. I must have been thinking UCAS points! I'm not sure!

OrangeBlossom28 · 29/01/2022 22:46

The issue DD now has is which uni to firm; York or Reading.
