University Offers for 2022 Start

I've heard universities are being more cautious this year, with some stating that they are not going to make most offers until the January deadline, when they can see a clearer picture - because of the over-subscription that happened for last year's students.

I thought it might be interesting to see which universities are making offers for which subjects.

We've only heard from York so far, for Computer Science. York University do seem to be making early offers.

Anyone else heard from any universities? Think it would be good to know what is happening out there :)

DD applied 1st week of October for vet science and vet nursing.

She has had one offer so far for vet nursing, one rejection for vet science.

For one vet science course she had been put "on hold" which I think just means they haven't yet decided.

Any Bath offer holders been invited to open days yet?

DD really torn between Notts and Bath and needs to decide prior to 1st March when Notts accommodation requests open (first come first served there). Open day at Nottingham on 9th Feb but nothing yet from Bath and she had her offer late November.

Chewbecca · 16/01/2022 11:57

threestars - both. DS tended to spot the email first but they seem to come at same time.

DS still waiting to hear from St Andrews and Loughborough for Economics. I am getting a little twitchy as if St A reject, Nottingham may be his firm in which case he will need to get in the accommodation scrum which I believe is quite tricky there. Trying to get the timing right for offer holder days & accommodation apps vs later offers.

Oblomov22 · 16/01/2022 12:13

Glad I read about Nottingham accommodation scrum. I didn't know about that.

threestars · 16/01/2022 12:30

That's encouraging Chewbacca, thank you. He's very suspicious if I ask to see - he thinks I don't believe him 🙄
5 universities applied to, one exam/interview done and nothing else heard. I know there's still some way to go, I just have to be patient. He seems fine!!

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 16/01/2022 15:46

@Oblomov22

Glad I read about Nottingham accommodation scrum. I didn't know about that.

Yes booking opens 1st March for those who firm with first come first served unlike her other option Bath who don't open way into summer & randomly allocated. Bit of a pain really as we visited Bath in the summer (she LOVED it) but has not had chance to have a guided tour.

whatsnext2 · 16/01/2022 18:05
@whatsnext2 Which course? DD2 has offers from Reading, York and Swansea for Business Management.
DD now has offers too from Reading, York and Swansea. Reading favourite as lovely campus and York just seemed more like a Harry Potter theme park.

OrangeBlossom28 · 16/01/2022 18:30

@whatsnext2
DD2 will prob firm Reading and insure Swansea. We are going to the York offer holder day so she can definitively decide that Reading is the one.

whatsnext2 · 16/01/2022 19:09

@OrangeBlossom28 when is York offer holder day? York is a 6 hour journey from here by train and last time I drove, so if she does that it might clarify things! What did she think of Swansea? The accommodation seemed tired compared to Reading and they just didn’t seem as clued up for joint honours.

OrangeBlossom28 · 16/01/2022 19:18

@whatsnext2 We're going on Feb 23rd. It's 150 miles from us so not close at all (we're Worcs) but we need to go to decide. We've done quite a few uni visits on our own so have only visited Bay at Swansea where lectures would be. We loved Reading and have now been twice to open days. The business degree at Reading is excellent so this will most certainly be her firm choice.

whatsnext2 · 16/01/2022 19:27

@OrangeBlossom28 we're Bristol so further still! Reading is nice and easy though!

OrangeBlossom28 · 16/01/2022 21:19

@whatsnext2 Reading is 105 miles for us and not too bad a drive. I can see DD2 there. Funny that we looked at it for DD1 but she wasn't that impressed with Geography there but liked the campus.

Can I join you all here?

DS hasn’t even heard from Bath since application (early October) I’m surprised you’re waiting re:offer holders day, I had no idea some people had received offers.

Roloe · 17/01/2022 23:38

Not entirely sure how a smiley face appeared in the word ‘offer’, I certainly, didn’t put one there. Weird! That’s really freaked me out, is this normal?

MarchingFrogs · 18/01/2022 08:27

Not noticed it happen on here, but certainly on some sites, if you type in the 'code' for an emoji quite 'innocently', in text, said emoji will appear, rather than what you intended.

'Yr 8)' gets converted to the sunglasses 'cool' emoji, iirc.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 18/01/2022 09:54

Woke up to not one but two offers from Nottingham Trent for DD and DS, first choice for both so a good morning in this house

DD did her mocks last week but has to wait 5 weeks for results, DS in currently mid mocks so this was a good boost for him

Both courses made 120 point offers as listed in prospectus

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 18/01/2022 10:01

@Roloe Dd was an early applicant as she also applied to Cambridge so applied end of October. Bath offer 22nd November, I have looked at The Student Room and the vast offers are made after 25th Jan. Dd was a lucky one I think as she had all her offers (except Cambridge) by end of November.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 18/01/2022 12:19

@Roloe Sorry saw your dc also applied October Blush hopefully they will hear very soon.

Roloe · 18/01/2022 14:05

@MarchingFrogs It really freaked me out. I’d like to know what combination I made to create it, as far as I know, I typed ‘o’ ? It’s never happened before. If anyone is in the know I’d like to find out what theses key combinations are.

@TangoWhiskyAlphaTango Hopefully we’re in the later batch. It’s odd though seeing as he applied so early.

Chewbecca · 19/01/2022 11:44

New question from me

DS is convinced that an AAA conditional offer would be considered met with, say A, A, B.

I say no, they haven't offered on UCAS points but they have on grade. They might accept on the day but it would be at their discretion.

Would you agree? If so, is there anywhere official I can point to that states this?

(These are his actual predicted grades and offers! I am saying you need to get the B up to an A and he says it doesn't matter if he achieves the A*. The B is in the least relevant subject to the degree subject).

Tomnooktoldmeto · 19/01/2022 12:29

@Chewbecca I would agree with you, my DC both hold offers for 120 ucas points from the same Uni

If your son was correct then it could be met by a number of different grade mixes, however

DD MUST have an A in one English, as she’s predicted A in Eng Language and A* in another subject she could meet her offer with a D, but if she got 3 B’s she won’t meet her offer

DS in the other hand only needs 120 in any make up to achieve his offer

LlamasintheFog · 19/01/2022 12:31

Same debate here @Chewbecca
DS has AAA offer from Loughborough but Astar, A, B is more likely. I agree with you that it will be down to luck / discretion whether they accept the points, though clearly it's helpful if the star is in the subject he wants to study.
DS is hoping that, as Loughborough have only gone to AAA tariff this year, they will find the cohort's grades are not as inflated this year so there may be some flexibility.
Nervous times!

readsalotgirl63 · 19/01/2022 13:47

Sorry I lurk on these threads although dd is now a postgrad. I would urge caution - she had a conditional offer based on Advanced Higher grades of BB. At an offer holders day she asked if AC would be acceptable and was told a very firm no.

Chewbecca · 19/01/2022 18:54

Thanks people, you are confirming what I think /know - I still have the problem of how to get that through to a teenager who doesn’t believe you!

GoldenTobes · 19/01/2022 20:08

My daughter received an offer from Reading earlier in the week. We had an email from the admissions department but can't see any mention of offer visit days. For those with an offer from Reading, did you get a separate email about offer days? Reading was one we didn't get to in Oct so would like to visit snd don't want to miss the days. Thanks
