I share the frustration of not knowing where your dc will be staying .... dd was patiently waiting for her halls confirmation, and knew plenty of others who were in the same situation, when she got an email yesterday saying they were offering them alternative private halls or could be left on the uni halls waiting list, with no guarantee of a room Shock.
I was just about over how awful the medical application process has been, and this is just not the news she needed. The private halls look nice, but about 2.5 miles away.
She's not feeling very happy right now!

Notagardener · 26/08/2021 19:46

Seems Dc2 has been really lucky. LSE were late to offer, she did not get her offer till early May, but then she just booked her first choice accommodation without problems.
Now just waiting to see what dc3 will be up to in a few years ' time Grin

Longtimenewsee · 26/08/2021 20:13

So those still waiting for a Durham college on this thread .. my Dc, @chopc’s , 321zyx’s .. anyone else ?

Vargas · 26/08/2021 20:52

My ds is still waiting for Durham. I've been patient thus far but now I'm well hacked off. It just seems so unfair to tell some and not others. I have a bad feeling that he's going to get shunted out to a college he really doesn't want or accommodation not in college and I'm really not sure what we'll do about it..,

Pumpkintopf · 26/08/2021 21:26

Oh @Millylovespuddles that's rubbish, really sorry to hear that.

jano69 · 26/08/2021 21:50

Hoping to hear of college allocations soon for Longtimenewsee, Vargas, 321zyx and chopc - the waiting must be is awful.

DD is still testing positive since Boardmasters - she's had to cancel her 18th birthday celebrations, her driving test and her holiday abroad! At least she was one of the fortunate few to have her Durham college confirmed relatively early on in the process.

Peaseblossum22 · 26/08/2021 21:55

@jano69 is that on a PCR or on LFT. Ds has done 2 LFT on consecutive days both negative and has isolated since being home and now just has the cough . It’s been 10 days do he came downstairs for 10mins this evening but he is still coughing , have any of the rest of you come down with it, I hate having to worry that my own ds has given me something , it just goes against your instincts

jano69 · 26/08/2021 22:00

and sending hugs to Millylovespuddles' dd, the anguish continues for many of us on this chat.

Xenia · 26/08/2021 22:02

Can I just add that a good few years ago my daughter did not get a place at her preferred halls (Bristol/Wills) accepted a place on the back up list and they day we arrived 5 people had chosen instead to take gap years/not taking up their rooms so she got her room. Sometimes it is worth going on a back up list.

jano69 · 26/08/2021 22:14

@Peaseblossum22 She got a positive PCR 8 days ago and has continued with daily lateral flow tests watching the bottom line slowly fade away. She did another lateral flow test at a clinic today but still tested positive, so sadly the holiday is off!

Ironically, she'll probably test negative tomorrow but it will be too late....

DH and I have tested negative so far... both PCRs and lateral flows.

We're pretty certain the cough dd came back with from Boardmasters wasn't actually covid, adding to the confusion when Day 1 actually began.

Hope your DS feels better soon. We've been lucky to spend time with dd regularly in the garden.

Peaseblossum22 · 26/08/2021 22:23

Your poor dd @jano69 , such a shame . Was she vaccinated at all ? Ds did come down to the garden a couple of times but he has been very cautious .,he’s desperate to get out of that room now though . He tested positive 10 days ago but vomited the night before which he thinks was his first real symptom , but actually had a sore throat over the weekend but doesn’t think that was Covid , very difficult but in a way, providing he recovers ok , It will give him a higher level of protection . None of his friends who were at Boardmasters who have had Covid have tested positive again.

Pumpkintopf · 26/08/2021 22:42

@jano69 that's a lot to miss out on, is she ok?

jano69 · 26/08/2021 22:42

@Peaseblossum22 yes a single Pfizer jab six weeks before she turned 18 so she's not been too bad.

Your ds sounds lovely staying in his room when he's desperate to get out. We've been staying in the garden most evenings wrapped up in coats and blankets to keep dd Company.

I think you'll be fine to spend this weekend outdoors together.

SeasonFinale · 26/08/2021 22:55

@chopc

Agree £500 won't cut it and I share your sentiments *@Longtimenewsee*

They should as a minimum prioritise those who firmed Durham

Which is probably pretty much everyone this year hence the issues I guess.
Peaseblossum22 · 26/08/2021 23:03

And there’s a lot of people at Exeter who are very unhappy and also Edinburgh and UCL and they all go in less than 3 weeks . Durham is a full month away yet, I doubt there are many insurance as most people met their firms this year .

ChimneyPot · 26/08/2021 23:04

@Millylovespuddles

That’s really tough.

Longtimenewsee · 27/08/2021 00:21

Gosh @Millylovespuddlesand sorry to hear that .. they’ve certainly had more than their fare share of hurdles this year.
@jano69 your poor Dd . Very disappointing that she’ll miss out on all that planned fun. I hope she continues to recover.

chopc · 27/08/2021 00:45

@jano69 oh your poor DD! Such a lot to miss out on! Hope she is OK

@Millylovespuddles sorry to hear that. I know what you mean about it having being a long slog and you hope there is something that goes smoothly in the end. Hopefully she will gel really well with her accommodation mates and will still have a fantastic time!

@Peaseblossum22 hope your DS recovers smoothly

ChimneyPot · 27/08/2021 01:26

Delighted @chopc

Sorry about your DDs holiday @jano69

Pumpkintopf · 27/08/2021 01:49

Oh thank goodness @chopc , what a relief!

Fingers crossed for all still waiting to hear...

Vargas · 27/08/2021 06:57

That's great news @chopc! What a relief, now you can really start planning the move to Uni properly.

So sorry to hear about cancelled plans for parties and holidays and drivers tests, hopefully this will be the last of the cancelled plans for a good long time!
