He emailed to ask for details of his exact flat and has had a reply that "We do not release room and flat numbers prior to a students arrival as these are provisional and subject to change."
hmm A bit unhelpful

Especially as they encourage you to contact flat mates to pre-purchase shared kitchen items!

AvocadoPlant · 18/08/2021 12:43

@Jng1- Crazy unhelpful! DD was given hers, I wonder if they’re only provisional?

I’m not sure about posting contact details on TSR, though it’s been set up with the best of intentions.

Hdhdjejdj · 18/08/2021 12:52

I would have thought fairly standard to know your exact accommodation on the day of arrival.

Yes, although I think this generation tend to use quite locked down snapchat accounts as contacts.

DS1 was told his and had been in a WhatsApp chat with his 10 flatmates by the time he arrived. Was super helpful for settling in!
Hdhdjejdj · 18/08/2021 12:57

Oh that’s interesting. It must vary from place to place. It must be helpful to have a heads up on who you will be sharing with, although DS was very lucky in that respect.

olliepolly · 18/08/2021 13:20

Hi Bend DD2 says do you know which block in CHH , Fry or South?

aroundincircles21 · 18/08/2021 13:53

@bendmeoverbackwards I think it depends on the uni and course. My DS had reading weeks in 1st year (2018/19)
but as he was a joint honours student and the subjects had differing reading weeks he, in effect, didn't get one!

bendmeoverbackwards · 18/08/2021 14:00

@olliepolly she thinks Fry but not 100% sure

olliepolly · 18/08/2021 14:29

Bend still trying to figure out which floor that might be in CHH.
Fry is an L shape and on a hill ( as the name suggests )

Re History reading week. DD2 is a soon to be 3rd yr History student.
Yes they get reading weeks but pretty certain they do not always match up with school half terms.

After all these years on mumsnet still do not know how to do the names link in bold thing. Can anyone enlighten me ?

AvocadoPlant · 18/08/2021 14:32

type the character @ and then type the username of of the poster - tip - the names start to come up at the bottom of the screen as you type

olliepolly · 18/08/2021 14:42

Thankyou @AvocadoPlant !

@bendmeoverbackwards , trying to help but there is a risk of being wrong.
We think F is in South block where the rooms have sinks.
Depends which way the lettering goes but we think it is the lowest floor, so ground on that part of the hill.
She thinks reading week is early Nov.

AvocadoPlant · 18/08/2021 14:44

@Jng1 just been looking on the accommodation blog and this message confirms what your DS was told

blogs.exeter.ac.uk/accommodation/2021/07/20/accommodation-offers-and-room-numbers/

Room Numbers

If you have received an offer of accommodation then you should be informed which residence and block you are in. We cannot give out the exact room numbers until a week prior to arrival as they are all subject to change. However your residence and block will remain unchanged.

Enjoy the rest of your week !

@AvocadoPlant @BigWoollyJumpers
We've not booked a moving in slot either for Lofrawda. The confirmation e mail says that we'll receive a further e mail when the induction/ booking slot is available. I presume that they're staggering it.

Revengeofthepangolins · 18/08/2021 17:51

@Eastisup H has been lucky - his room is near the Bloomsbury campus. I guess mini East has been given Goldsmid's? It looks like a nice block and is well priced, but I understand her hesitation about proximity. On the FAQs I see that after two weeks there is a swap shop set up by the accommodation department - maybe with it being nice and well priced she could get a swap set up that way?

AvocadoPlant · 18/08/2021 18:09

@olliepolly - you’re welcome Grin

AvocadoPlant · 18/08/2021 18:20

@calculatorqueen agreed, just checked back on DDs email and that’s exactly what it said. I think she was lucky and was able to book very quickly afterwards. x

Thank you so much @olliepolly dd does have a sink in her room so it must be there.
Eastisup · 18/08/2021 19:08

@Revengeofthepangolins haha, yes that's right, it is Goldsmids! She seems ok about it now and was just having a moan about having to tube it into uni everyday but she knew about the swap shop set up, so if she really hates it, she can see if someone else want to exchange. She is quite pleased about the small double bed and the en-suite though!
Glad your ds is on the Bloomsbury campus though!

Revengeofthepangolins · 18/08/2021 20:35

@Eastisup. Goldsmidts does look much nicer than many of the sites nearer campus which is a definite upside. And there is a promising looking Boris bike route through the parks too

Eastisup · 19/08/2021 07:59

'@Revengeofthepangolins ye, I might suggest the idea of cycling, maybe for later in the year. She spent last night on a group chat with some others and said they were all really nice and she was looking forward to meeting them Smile

BigWoollyJumpers · 19/08/2021 11:41

DD's BF just got his room allocation..... none from his top five, and he has got a small single room, single bed, shared bathroom between two, with 12 to a kitchen. He is very, very, upset. He is going to try to swap, as it is pretty cheap, and may suit someone on a budget....... but his top requirement was en-suite, which he didn't get, which is a real shame. DD now feeling really guilty she got second choice. Some at Exeter have found out they are in town now, not on campus. It's going to be a really full year.

jano69 · 19/08/2021 12:19

Sorry to hear your DD's BF is disappointed with his accommodation @BWJ. A couple of years ago DS was allocated an awful room, in an awful block, with a manky kitchen and a scummy shower shared between 12 of them - he was so upset at the beginning (so was I) but he he still had a really happy time....

In other news, DD's PCR came back positive this morning following 6 negative lateral flows. Obviously brought it back from Boardmasters... She's half way through her isolation already fortunately so hoping she'll start to feel better soon. We are double jabbed and she has been isolating since her return so fingers crossed 🤞

bendmeoverbackwards · 19/08/2021 13:07

@BigWoollyJumpers I'm sorry to hear his news. I hope he manages to get something better. It really is very full everywhere this year. I heard (not sure if it's true) that some Bristol students are going to accommodated in......Bath!

@jano69 oh no! Hope she feels better soon and the isolation period passes quickly.

Xenia · 19/08/2021 13:38

On reading weeks in case of use - I think it depends on the subject eg my geography BSc child had none and his twin reading ancient history BA did have them.
