Has anyone heard from Exeter yet about accommodation? We've just logged on and DS's application is still just showing as submitted, not even moved up to processing.

But further good news, he passed his driving test this morning! He had it cancelled a couple of weeks ago and got given the 8.10 slot but thankfully it all went well. One more thing ticked off the list! Grin

Congratulations to your DS @calculatorqueen

DD was on first thing, as were a queue of others! Apparently they will get an email first, to confirm which accommodation, then they log on to proceed.

Well done on the driving, DD still on the cancellation list.

calculatorqueen · 16/08/2021 11:49

Thanks @BigWoollyJumpers I'll keep prodding DS to check his e mails.

@Xenia

(My older son , no longer a student, who moved 90 minutes away from home, is still using our home NHS dentist because he just cannot find one in Oxfordshire so far! I am glad he has not de-registered from ours in the meantime and he needed root canal work in the pandemic - they would only give him antibotics for about 7 months due to CV19 restrictions last year but now at least he has had the root canal work)
My daughter couldn't find a dentist to take her on in or near Oxford, she tried calling every single one. She had to travel home for emergency dental care.

@BigWoollyJumpers and @calculatorqueen

DS has his Exeter accommodation confirmed - he's in Lafrowda, which he's very happy about! Think it's Block A, in case either of yours are the same!

calculatorqueen · 16/08/2021 13:07

@Jng1 Great news! That's what DS is hoping for. Still no e mail but I've tried to log in ( was a 1 hr queue when I started!), it now says 6 minutes.

DD spent 2 hours waiting in line earlier - then had the disappointment of nothing changed yet :-(

BigWoollyJumpers · 16/08/2021 16:02

Only one other person in her History group has had news, no-one else. And also no-one on Unify. Jng1 lucky Grin.

Can I ask where she has 'found' her History group - is it a Facebook Group or WhatsApp/ Snapchat group etc? DS hasn't been able to find anyone yet!

(and what's Unify?)

BigWoollyJumpers · 16/08/2021 16:16

I'll let DD answer that.....

DD here: There is an Exeter freshers groupchat on Facebook. If he writes on that chat that he'd like to be added to some course specific groupchats for what he is studying someone already in those groups can add him on things like Instagram and Whatsapp. "Unifi" is also a good one to download (its an app for uni specific chats and will have specific accommodation groupchats as well).

Just looking back in the thread: was your DS unconditional? I think all the unconditionals have their accommodation already.

Jng1 · 16/08/2021 16:25

Thank you BWJ's DD!

Yes, DS was unconditional, so already had his accommodation offer -sorry I should have mentioned that.

Pumpkintopf · 16/08/2021 18:57

@calculatorqueen many congratulations to your DS, that's brilliant news!

@BigWoollyJumpers DD - thank you so much for that, have already forwarded that app to DS 😁

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 16/08/2021 19:04

My DD is still waiting to hear from Exeter on what accommodation she has been allocated. Lafrowda is her preferred option @jng1 @calculatorqueen @bigwoollyjumpers

Can I ask if your teenagers are getting the 'you must get the big freshers pass ticket before they sell out' via social media?

calculatorqueen · 16/08/2021 20:15

@BigWoollyJumpers please thank your DD for the links. DS isn't on Facebook, so it sounds like I'm going to have to get him on it.

@Dobbyismyabsolutefav I hadn't heard about this ticket is that on Facebook too? If it is an official Exeter Uni pass then I'm happy for him to have it but not if it's just a couple of nightclubs. I'm sure that some of these have been scams in the past.

Thanks everyone for your congratulations re the driving test.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 16/08/2021 20:53

@calculatorqueen

From this thread my DD signed up to Facebook and joined various Fresher groups. Although these Fresher tickets are being pushed quite heavily and my DD felt she might miss out on an organised social (she is away at the moment).

So I popped onto to the Student room and there are a few comments to not believe the hype of tickets selling fast plus people are making commission from sales. So if it tickets are via Fatsoma be aware of this. It's a bit of a shame really as my DD thought she was connecting with other first year students.

Hopefully she can chat with others taking the same subject as her when she is back home later this week.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 16/08/2021 20:55

@calculatorqueen

Congratulations to your DS on passing his driving test. My DD's is later this month!

Stillcrikey · 16/08/2021 22:26

@calculatorqueen congratulations on the driving test for your ds. What a couple of weeks he’s had!!

Ds has his on 9th sept. I’m not confident (even if he is). He’s had so few lessons due to lockdown and then his instructor slipped a disk and couldn’t teach last summer. Hey ho, we shall see.

Bristol accommodation offers come out tomorrow. They’ve made a deal of how ‘busy’ they are on the website so now I’m imagining he will be offerd a room under the stairs sharing with six other people!! 😲.

chopc · 16/08/2021 22:37

Durham are in a pickle too due to too many people meeting their offers. If a student doesn't get their first choice college they will get £500 ad compensation

OP posts:
Stillcrikey · 16/08/2021 23:03

I suppose since Durham allocated colleges a while back, they probably need to offer some kind of ‘compensation’. Bristol ask for 9 preferences before they offer but their website now says students may not get any of their 9 and may have to share!!

It suggests that it may be a scramble for decent 2nd year digs too!

Stillcrikey · 16/08/2021 23:04

I’ve got visions of their facilities management team running round rooms with tape measures seeing which ones can fit an extra bed in 😲

chopc · 16/08/2021 23:43

Just like some Unis are oversubscribed there must be some which are under?

OP posts:
Notagardener · 17/08/2021 07:55

Well, DD needs dropping off 12th Sept after 3pm at of the IC hals in London. Not sure why so early as freshers' week is the week after.
