Maddie and binkom - yes it's keele. I understand the need for short interviews in the current climate, but it means the applicants have such little time to show the best of themselves. Especially when most unis state that the interview informs the the final offer (if one is made). So much riding on the interviews. Also ds can be the type to warm up as the interview progresses, he'll have to make sure he's on it from the moment it starts.

MaddieElla · 01/02/2021 12:33

Milly, that sounds stressful. I know they have hundreds to interview but I always try and put people at ease when I interview people. What's the point in making a nerve wrecking time even worse?

Let's hope more good news is incoming this week. We're in February so the wait can't be much longer, surely...

LaLaFlottes · 01/02/2021 12:49

@Powergower could you maybe ask DS a couple of warm up questions to get him in the swing of things? 15 mins is so short like you say. Maybe if you asked him a couple of questions that he has prepared really well for, that he will be able to easily answer, it could help him be right on it from the start of the actual interview?

Millylovespuddles · 01/02/2021 13:21

Having the interview as the deciding factor is really tough. I wonder if they really do only go on what they see in the interview, you'd think it would be difficult to tell how good a student is in such a short space of time, especially when it's via zoom or whatever.

SATSmadness · 01/02/2021 13:35

@Millylovespuddles

It is a bit crap isn't it. Some people may perform well to camera and for some it's added an extra worry as so much harder to interact with people normally when it's just a head and shoulders on the screen interaction.

I agree having interviews as the only deciding factor for most Medical Schools does seem tough, especially when it's on line and very short.

I know some use SJT as an MMI station, but for most that's all isn't it - except for UEA where UCAT is 50% of your post interview score and then they also use SJT as part of the interview score.

It must be very tough for the interviewers too, having to make these decisions.

Powergower · 01/02/2021 15:03

Lala that's great advice, I'll try and pin down ds before his interview to try and do some warm up questions. No doubt he'll want me out of the way pretty quickly, I'm forever being waved off/ away by my kids!

LaLaFlottes · 01/02/2021 15:37

@Powergower a couple of warm up questions - tell him his answers were totally amazing - and then off you go to hide while DS does his interview Grin

Powergower · 01/02/2021 16:18

We have an offer!! Completely unexpected but delighted. Just got to get the 3 x A at a level now.

Wow - takeaway treat time! Well done, what a relief for you all. Smile

Powergower · 01/02/2021 17:08

Thank you everyone! Certainly takes the pressure off for the next interview. We would have had a takeaway but he got the message in the middle of us having our tea. Fingers crossed for everyone waiting to hear, at the end of last week we were still waiting to hear from 3 unis. Things change quickly so hang in there. Of course, there's the uncertainty of exams and grades to deal with, but tonight we celebrate a little.

MaddieElla · 01/02/2021 17:29

Crikey @Powergower absolutely fantastic news!! I am so excited when one of us gets good news, you definitely get to celebrate tonight. Wine

bimkom · 01/02/2021 19:16

Congratulations @powergower. There you go! Your DS was the one who was waiting and waiting while everybody else has interview offers, and now he has beaten the pack! Can we know where it is from?

Emmy583 · 05/02/2021 14:52

Just found this thread after dd received an email from Bristol saying she is ‘on hold’ after her interview which is quite nerve wracking.
Wow amazing to see an offer on the thread already though!

Millylovespuddles · 05/02/2021 16:23

Welcome @Emmy583
Things are a bit quieter on this thread now that the bulk of interviews have taken place, it's more a case of waiting to see what happens...
At least it's not a 'no' from Bristol, and we are all trying to keep a 'no news is good news' attitude. Fingers crossed for you.

MaddieElla · 05/02/2021 17:42

Hello @Emmy583 👋

Yes, we're all waiting and hoping at the moment apart from a couple of well deserved offers.

Good luck for Bristol, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the "on hold" turns into a yes for your DD.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 05/02/2021 18:21

On hold for Bristol here too. A bit Gutted as it was first choice here :(
