Emummy fabulous news! Well done to your dd she must have aced the interview.

We had a rejection from one uni here despite him having higher scores than many of those interviewed by the uni. I think unis are definitely cutting back on numbers being interviewed since cags were announced in Jan.

The good news is ds has another interview in 2 weeks, which has been great. Something to work towards and aim for. Online learning has been a struggle for him, he finds it incredibly challenging so I'm pleased he has another focus. Hope everyone else is doing well.

emummy · 30/01/2021 08:59

Sorry to hear about the rejection @Powergower. Good luck for the next interview; it’s a really tough time.

LaLaFlottes · 30/01/2021 09:00

@emummy amazing news!! Very well done to your DD. How lovely to have an unconditional offer with grades in hand.
She’s a wonderful example of not giving up and hard work paying off. I am so pleased for her (and you Smile ) and hope you have a fantastic weekend of celebrations. Your DD is definitely off to study medicine in September Grin Grin

@Powergower really pleased to hear about the interview in a couple of weeks. Great to have it booked and to work towards. That must be disheartening about the other one, especially if they seem to have interviewed people with lower scores. Was this Liverpool by any chance? Don’t say if you don’t want to Smile I just wondered.

I have seen a few comments about some Unis struggling to do all their interviews because of medical professionals being needed in hospitals which does make sense. I don’t know if that’s true though.

Powergower · 30/01/2021 09:18

Lala we are still waiting to hear from Liverpool. I'm not holding out much hope as I think unis are opting to interview less people due to cags, staff shortages and reasons you've mentioned in your post. It means this year is even more competitive, but to be honest my main priority at the moment is getting everyone through this lockdown with mental health in tact. It's been awful.

His pre interview rejection was from Lincoln. He's fine though, galvanised and trying to re-learn the stuff he learnt for his first interview back in early December. The blue isc book is back in action!

WithIcePlease · 30/01/2021 09:30

@emummy fabulous 🎉🎉
Lovely to hear offers coming through 😊

Bristol interview interview yesterday which she was happier with than the others. I'm concerned that she won't get the grades tbh. Hoping for an offer to improve her focus.
Last interview on Wednesday

LaLaFlottes · 30/01/2021 09:38

@Powergower hopefully Liverpool will still come through - DD has a friend waiting to hear from there too and has seen people with higher scores getting invites, but I think it is likely alphabetical from what people have said? The ISC book - back in action! Brilliant - I’m sure the prep from Dec will come flooding back.
Agree about getting through with mental health intact. I wish we could just fast forward a few months.

@WithIcePlease brilliant to hear Bristol went well Smile

MaddieElla · 30/01/2021 10:03

@emummy what absolutely fantastic news!! So happy for you and your DD; to come back from last year and smash it is something she should be very very proud of. Medical Student incoming! Grin

Sorry to hear about rejections @Powergower; they really are a slap in the face when they come through. I wonder why he was rejected if he had higher scores than others? Doesn't seem to make sense. Keep positive for the other interview. Smile

And well done on the Bristol interview. Smile

bimkom · 30/01/2021 19:07

@emummy - fantastic! Congratulations! really pleased! Especially after having the gumption to pick herself up and retry again. And I think, as far as I know, your DD is the very first of our group to get an offer! Hopefully many more to follow!
And congratulations @powergower on the new interview. Glad it has galvanised him (rejections do hurt, even when you know it isn't personal), but at least he has this one coming up to prep for. Hope it goes well.

opoponax · 30/01/2021 20:02

@emummy that's brilliant and for Glasgow too! Really uplifting news. Hope you are celebrating this weekend.

@Powergower sorry to hear about the rejection but good news about the upcoming interview. Good luck for that one and hope Liverpool comes through too.

Well done to others who have received interviews and good luck for any coming up.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 30/01/2021 20:35

Just wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom for a Manchester interview. Daughter has final interview on Wednesday and seems quite blasé about it as it is her 4th interview and she feels really prepared. I on the other hand ama wreck as it feels like her last chance. She interviewed badly ( her words) for Kings and then Ok for Bristol and Glasgow yet no offers as of yet. Am not sure I can go through this all again if I offers!!! She is an exceptional candidate on paper ( but I am biased!!) but has not enjoyed the online interviews at all.

Card1gan · 30/01/2021 21:18

@Iamsodonewith2020 DD's first interview was Manchester and she said the interview was more like a chat than an interview. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, they're not giving out offers until they've interviewed everyone. Good luck to your DD.

@emummy Huge congratulaltions to your DD on her offer, hope you've celebrated in style as much as Covid restrictions allow.

Good luck to everyone with interviews in the next few weeks and with the long wait for outcomes...

LaLaFlottes · 30/01/2021 21:29

@Iamsodonewith2020 I can’t help re Manchester, but just wanted to say I felt the same before DD’s final interview. It’s a strange feeling - maybe knowing it’s their last chance to “ace” it!

emummy · 30/01/2021 21:43

Thank you everyone; prosecco has been drunk. Good luck for this week

Millylovespuddles · 31/01/2021 13:23

@emummy That's a great way to end January, well done to your dd.

FanSpamTastic · 31/01/2021 13:29

Congrats @emummy! Good to hear some offers are starting to come through!

DD has had 1 interview, 2 rejections for medicine (but one of those has offered to convert to biomed), has offer for biomed from her 5th. Still waiting on the last medicine to either interview or reject.

I am talking up the benefits of a gap year!

Lovecatsanddogs · 31/01/2021 13:44

You only need the one offer@FanSpamTastic

My Ds had 3 rejections and his last decision was an offer in March. He's a 3rd year now.

FanSpamTastic · 31/01/2021 14:06

That is true @Lovecatsanddogs - I have said that myself and will be over the moon if it works out that way.

redtulip12 · 31/01/2021 14:08

Huge congratulations to your daughter @emummy must be such a relief to know she will definitely be studying medicine next year!

Final interview on Wednesday for us. Then the continued wait to find out if DD will get any offers.

Good luck to all with interviews this week.

Ginprincess · 31/01/2021 18:40

I empathise with you all, the waiting is hard. My DD is now a first year at Bristol. Last year there were lots of 'on holds' which then became offers. Happy to answer any questions.

Powergower · 01/02/2021 09:06

Ds has his info through for his next interview. It's 2 x 15 min interviews, one in the morning and one a few hours later. I think the 15 min slot will have 3x stations in it. 15 min seems like no time at all, and although it's 3 stations in that slot, it's with the same interviewers so that's good. Ds is thinking that he's not going to have enough time to get his points across but I've told him to just do his best.

Personally I think the 15 min interviews might be easier than the hour long ones he's done.

Good luck for this week everyone. Hoping everyone waiting to hear about interviews does, and some offers start coming in.

IsThisNameTaken · 01/02/2021 10:28

That is such great news @emummy - huge congrats to your DD

@Iamsodonewith2020 I can't think of any particular tips for Manchester but DD was happy with her interview there. She said the interviewers were really nice and at least gave some feedback, unlike UEA who were completely deadpan!

Good luck to interviews this week - still just waiting to hear from Keele here. They originally said by end of Jan but moved that last week to mid-Feb so still some hope.

MaddieElla · 01/02/2021 10:57

@Powergower is that Keele? DD has an interview there which was 2 x 15 minute. I too wonder how they can get a good measure of candidates in such short bursts. Everyone is in the same boat though.

If it's any help DD said the interviewers were lovely and really put her at ease. Good luck!

MaddieElla · 01/02/2021 10:58

*had

bimkom · 01/02/2021 11:36

@MaddieElla @Powergower, from what TSR is saying, most people in the Liverpool interviews are finishing in around 15-20 minutes total.

Seems really short. Two sets of 15 minutes sounds much more reasonable.

Millylovespuddles · 01/02/2021 11:57

DD's Liverpool interview was only 20 mins. They said a couple of times to her that they couldn't hear her, seemed pretty brusque and unfriendly, and she felt it was like they were just going through the process, but not very interested (in being there Hmm)
