Daughter had Kings Interview today and feels it didn’t go great. She said they were odd questions, nothing she was expecting at all and none of the usual topics covered . She is really quiet as it was one of her favourites and she feels her dream is slowly slipping away( her words) :(

LaLaFlottes · 30/11/2020 17:21

@Iamsodonewith2020 I'm sorry to hear this. But perhaps her answers were absolutely fine? It might be designed to feel odd to everyone?

I hope your DD is ok - this is so tough for them all.

MaddieElla · 30/11/2020 17:39

Interviews are designed to make you wonder how the heck it went I'm sure of it, and she will have done better than she thinks. Smile Fingers crossed for good news. Meanwhile...GinGinGin

@Powergower nothing from Keele yet but according to the powers that be they haven't finished going through R&R forms yet so interviews are very random.

sergeantmajormum · 30/11/2020 18:45

My DD got interview feedback (after offer) 2 years ago and the stations she felt had gone worst were her best scores - you really can’t tell!

IsThisNameTaken · 30/11/2020 19:29

@Powergower nothing from Keele here either - and no flurry of interviews on TSR either. Same with Manchester, have seen a few rejections mentioned on TSR but no interviews.

@Iamsodonewith2020 sorry to hear your DD didn't think it went well, but fingers crossed she's just being hard on herself.

DD had mock interview today and didn't think she performed brilliantly but got really good feedback (apart from "don't fiddle with your hair and earrings!") and so now seems a lot more confident for UEA interview later this week.

bimkom · 30/11/2020 22:22

There was what is now thought (by other posters on TSR, I am just lurking) to be a troll on the Nottingham TSR thread, claiming an interview, posted some stats (which don't apply to Nottingham), then posts disappeared. Nobody else has heard anything. Apparently somebody worked out the account had just been made too (I don't know how they know). Like we need that on top of everything else

MarchingFrogs · 01/12/2020 01:08

Apparently somebody worked out the account had just been made too (I don't know how they know).

You just click on their username and 'Date joined' is one of the first things you seeSmile.

sluj · 01/12/2020 08:25

Good morning prospective medic mums.
I always keep an eye on the medic threads, reliving the trauma and joy with you all. I am just dropping by to wish all your DCs the best of luck and to say my son is year 5 at UEA if anyone wants any specific information about UEA. He has loved it there and glad he chose that one.
Lots of interviews come out well after Christmas, so try to be a bit patient, though I know that's easier said than done Smile

Millylovespuddles · 01/12/2020 09:41

Updating with an interview for Oxford for DD. As if that's not stressful enough, it's due on the same day as another one that she has already confirmed ..... aarrggghh

LaLaFlottes · 01/12/2020 09:47

Thanks for posting @sluj

That's great your Son is enjoying UEA. DD has an interview for there on Thursday and would love to go. We had a little visit in the summer and the campus was lovely. We thought Norwich was very nice too.

SATSmadness · 01/12/2020 09:47

@Millylovespuddles - do the timings clash or is it possible to do both ?

OP posts:
LaLaFlottes · 01/12/2020 09:48

@Millylovespuddles amazing!! Well done to your DD. Do the times clash or can she do both on the same day?

Millylovespuddles · 01/12/2020 10:08

She doesn't know the time of the Oxford interview yet, so crossing fingers it will work out without having to rearrange.
I am supposed to be working from home today, somehow I'm finding it difficult to focus!

opoponax · 01/12/2020 10:20

@Millylovespuddles great news. Hope your DD can sort out the calendar clash. My friend's DC got a Cambridge interview offer late last week after a rejection from Exeter.

SATSmadness · 01/12/2020 10:36

@opoponax

That could be a fun fact for the future.

"Why did you go to Cambridge Uni ?" ......

"Oh, because I was rejected by Exeter Uni" Grin

OP posts:
opoponax · 01/12/2020 11:51

@SATSmadness Cambridge is not the DC's preferred choice. They actually preferred the Exeter course but did a better BMAT than UCAT.

SATSmadness · 01/12/2020 12:03

Yes, sadly however, the average person would assume that the Oxbridge Uni was the first choice.

Exeter did have a v high UCAT cut off this year.

DD's UCAT result was definitely better than her BMAT which is annoying for her as she really really wants Cambridge at this point in time. I fear it won't lose it's allure from her point of view her unless she gets a "no thanks" after interview and then she'll re-direct her love to another of her choices, assuming interviews elsewhere lead to offers. It's a very odd year for them across the board though due to last years CAGs nightmare.

OP posts:
opoponax · 01/12/2020 13:21

@SATSmadness I don't make that assumption. Many very academically able DC choose not to apply to Oxbridge for a variety of reasons, structure of course being one of them. All of the medical schools in the UK have their individual merits and some will suit some DC better than others.

Lovecatsanddogs · 01/12/2020 13:50

100 percent agree @opoponax my DS and DD both achieved 3 a star at Alevel and my son got a very high UCAT, BMAT, decided against Oxbridge as he wanted a more vocational course. In 3rd year at Exeter and so happy as much more hands on. My DD is at Cambridge doing Vet med and also very happy but the course for medicine and vet is very different to elsewhere and absolutely would not suit all high achieving students. Not all academic students want to do 3 essays per week for 2 years.

SATSmadness · 01/12/2020 13:57

My youngest will definitely not be interested in the Oxbridge route, I'd bet a huge wad of cash on it. As the saying goes, it's "horses for courses" - no pun intended

Congratulations to all the dc who have received interviews this week. Nottingham has just started sending out interview invites today. My dd has just booked hers for 2 weeks time. Apparently they are being sent out in random orders!!

LaLaFlottes · 01/12/2020 19:48

@redtulip12 congrats on the Nottingham invite - great news! Good to see another University getting those interview invites out.

opoponax · 01/12/2020 20:04

Great news @redtulip12 and congratulations to your DD.

emummy · 01/12/2020 20:32

Congratulations to your DCs @Millylovespuddles and @redtulip12! Good luck for the interviews.

bimkom · 01/12/2020 20:55

Yes, we are still waiting for a Nottingham invite, although DS's score is higher than some of those who have received invites, so it should be coming. Last year they were totally random as well, so hopefully it will come soon.
