If it is teacher assessment, when is the cut off? Could some superb work emailed in over the next few weeks lift the grade?

MarchingFrogs · 19/03/2020 20:52

@thesunwillout, which university/ies?

oneteen · 19/03/2020 20:58

Edgehill have been sending out UCs today

oneteen · 19/03/2020 21:03

Lots of tears from Dd still... She just keeps saying she's not ready to leave yet.... So so sad...

It's also so sad its the Heads last day tomorrow with the whole school after being there 10 years... Awful way to leave a school she actually built up from a real mess when two schools almalagmated.

I'm hoping Dd can book a one off special holiday over Xmas/New Year.... I've just cancelled her 18th...no choice

thesunwillout · 19/03/2020 21:11

@MarchingFrogs

I found out from a post, just now on the Facebook page WIWIKAU, I know some mumsnetters are on there.

Edge Hill, Leeds Trinity, Liverpool Hope.
There are others but these are the ones named so far.

DD just firmed her first choice, after not doing it.
We'll see, as she got a reduced offer from them.

thesunwillout · 19/03/2020 21:15

Oh oneteen I'm sorry x
DD 18th in a few weeks also. I said we'll do something when we can.
My dd also has had a long road in education, mental health, a yr out, special provisions bla bla...
I'm sure your DD will work her way through.
Hugs to both of you

oneteen · 19/03/2020 21:22

@thesunwillout... Thank you... I'm sure tomorrow is going to be awful for all the DC but I can't help but think this is definitely the right decision given the daily news...

Sorry to hear about your Dds 18th too...

thesunwillout · 19/03/2020 21:27

Thankyou, I hope the day goes ok, and there are some smiles and fun.

DD college ended yesterday, unfortunately she's been really ill since half term so it had kind of deflated naturally. Not being in.
X

Ds has now gone into 'what's the point' mode, wish they would hurry up and tell them how this is going to be sorted out!

errorofjudgement · 20/03/2020 11:04

One of DDs friends is convinced it will be on predictions and was happily celebrating achieving her offer - not sure where she was getting that info from though!

honkytonkheroe · 20/03/2020 11:20

Personally I think it will be on UCAS predicted with a clear path of appeal for those not happy. Obviously that does cover all but deals with a large group. I think then there will be a more complicated system for those not falling in this category or those appealing. I think unis will be going back through applications and giving unconditionals to the best. However, what happens regarding overseas students who may not come although the unis won’t know this yet, I don’t know. This is all guesswork on my part though and we will find out later!

oneteen · 20/03/2020 11:21

Dd staying in school to watch the announcement at 5pm...

Let's just hope the Government look after these young adults who are feeling stressed and vulnerable.... I guess no one apart from the DC with grades in hand or unconditional offers feels secure that there offer will still stand.

honkytonkheroe · 20/03/2020 11:54

DD has just phoned to say her music teachers have asked her and her friend to help teach their music classes and run their music clubs. She is thinking she will defer and do this. She loves the school, was already thinking she wasn’t ready to go, had music exams (grade 7s and 8s) due but cancelled and is still learning to drive. All in all I think that may be a good idea. Her degree is Psychology so she would look for related work which may be easier to find when she is 18.

MillicentMartha · 20/03/2020 12:03

I can't be on UCAS predictions because they are universally known to be over optimistic. Universities make offers knowing this. If everyone got their UCAS predicted grades those universities who generally make higher offers will have too many students and those who make lower offers will be half empty. IMHO that is.

MillicentMartha · 20/03/2020 12:08

*It can't be...

OP posts:
honkytonkheroe · 20/03/2020 12:23

You may be right, it’s all guesswork. I haven’t found UCAS grades to be over predicted though to be honest. Our school is very reluctant to predict an A so DD1 exceeded her predictions and DD2 was hoping to get an A in a subject she was predicted an A in too.

FabTab · 20/03/2020 12:45

Last year my DS bombed in his mocks, exceeded his predicted grades for UCAS purposes and his predicted grades based on his GCSE results. Whatever measure is used would likely - if applied to my DS last year - have given him lower grades than those he actually got. I think we’ll just have to hope they come up with the least worst system and allow anyone who is unhappy with the grade to have the option not to take it. It would be unfair to be forced to take a U for example and have to declare you failed an exam you never sat! Or in my DS’s case your perfectly good 3 A level results from last year appear worse because you have one lower grade A level dragging the overall appearance down.

errorofjudgement · 20/03/2020 12:55

I agree that ucas grades are often optimistic!
I think I read at 4/5 students do not meet their grades.

oneteen · 20/03/2020 13:03

Dd has double Physics today because the teacher is determined to finish the syllabus bless him... As it stands she's still due to continue with remote lessons come Monday and the timetable was sent out yesterday...

honkytonkheroe · 20/03/2020 14:00

DD is quite a long way from finishing her syllabus in all 3 subjects but her teachers are saying they will continue to set work and they should continue to send it as evidence of their grade.

MillicentMartha · 20/03/2020 15:30

www.gov.uk/government/news/further-details-on-exams-and-grades-announced

Grades to be based on teacher assessment (more guidance to teachers to be supplied on how to do this, but will include mocks, tests, coursework etc) and then compared to prior attainment held by exam boards (so GCSEs and maybe AS levels.) This will then be checked to see if it matches up with expected results compared to previous cohorts etc.

Not unexpected. Results by end of July, hopefully.

OP posts:
KingscoteStaff · 20/03/2020 15:50

No information as to when the Teacher Assessments will need to be submitted? How long have Year 13 got to submit work to be considered? Will their posture as they Face time their lessons be considered?

Lightuptheroom · 20/03/2020 15:57

Normally the coursework element is due by the beginning of May, though for History my Ds was being told up until all of this hit that the teacher wanted it completed by the end of next week. So we still have to wait until July!

honkytonkheroe · 20/03/2020 16:00

DDs teachers plan to continue to teach the syllabus and gather evidence. I wonder if their stance on this will change now or if they are allowed to do this.

oneteen · 20/03/2020 16:17

I'm almost sure Dd will be expected to attend online lessons until study leave but in fairness it will provide some structure to her days and company too because some of these children will feel isolated.
