The kitchen mine shares has the cupboards and drawers organised vertically so each student has taken the cupboard and the drawers underneath it. There is a set per student plus two extras. No idea about the fridge freezer though.

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 22:08

DS2 said one of the international students in his flat has arrived already and said there isn't much cupboard space, so it will be interesting to see what exactly they have got!

freshtrim · 17/09/2017 22:14

mine has a 300mm base cupboard with one shelf, and a shelf in the fridge. We got pans/chopping board, mugs, glasses, colander and cheese grater in there but no space for crockery or store cupboard type food so he has that in a drawer in his room. Told me tonight mind that he hasnt been in the kitchen yet (arrived friday)Shock

Acacia123 · 17/09/2017 22:27

Okay, that's what I thought - although I hadn't considered padlocks.

And generally any ideas about laundry...is there a washing machine in the kitchen or is there a laundry room shared between flats (or none of the above - and it's a laundrette somewhere)?

Apols if silly question!

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 22:31

Usually most halls have a laundry room on the ground floor, although my friend's DC had one in their flat kitchen at Northumbria I remember.

clarenceparence · 17/09/2017 22:31

In mine he has a laundry room available .... £2.30 wash and £1.20 dry

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 22:33

Laundry can work out quite expensive. DS2 does a lot of sport so he will need to wash clothing fairly frequently which is going to be a bit costly.

Acacia123 · 17/09/2017 22:39

Wow yes, at those prices it could really add up.

clarenceparence · 17/09/2017 22:53

I thought that seemed quite expensive too.... and I imagine one 'dry' wouldn't be enough

dahliaaa · 17/09/2017 22:59

I think that was the same price for washing/drying i saw today (different uni) so must be fairly standard

dahliaaa · 17/09/2017 23:00

Re kitchen. Had a little cupboard each but fridge and freezer seemed bit of a free for all.

mummmy2017 · 17/09/2017 23:07

2nd year private halls.
One top cupboard, one bottom, one draw.
We took loads of food in packs, and tins, didn't get used.
We found the cereals all got used, easy meal.
Toast and soups, were also a must.

TheMightyMing · 17/09/2017 23:21

Well we got back late ish as DS and DH went off to watch football at the pub.

I was very teary but my husband was inconsolable 😢, in 20 years of marriage I've only seen him cry when his mother RIP passed away. He as literally sobbing in the car and again when we got back.

DS is fine though.

I feel utterly wrung out with emotion.

clarenceparence · 17/09/2017 23:30

TheMightyMing I feel exactly the same, my other half was the same and couldn't even say goodbye - he sobbed the entire way home on and off. I've only ever seen him cry once before and that was a funeral. He is inconsolable. He said he feels like he's lost his best mate.

Such a draining day

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 23:33

Gaaaaaahhh!!
Woke up at 3.30am and glanced at my phone, dd bloody rang me at 1.41am
Arrrgh is she ok!? Stupid iPhone is set to allow favourites to ring etc overnight
Both her and her boyfriend where active on Facebook anhour after she rang me so fingers crossed 🤞 all ok
I hate this. I want my baby home

user327854831 · 18/09/2017 05:09

Can't sleep Sad

I stopped at their bedroom door last night and said goodnight out of habit :-(

bigTillyMint · 18/09/2017 07:08

DD has a high cupboard for food and a low cupboard for pans. No idea about the fridge as she didn't have any milk to put in it when we dropped her!
Had a few texts and she rang yesterday - all seems fine so far.

Emptyhouseparent · 18/09/2017 07:24

Youngest fledged the nest on Saturday and miss him so much already. Both my kids at uni now. I've had so much advice from people on staying busy etc and I do all that, but you still miss them, even though you are happy and excited for them too. Hub and I also both sobbed all the way home. Didn't help that youngest has been ultra cuddly the past week and wanting to spend extra time with us.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/09/2017 07:44

Ds1 was at another party last night

He had a hangover yesterday

Im just woried he is going to get too drunk

Its going to be ages before he texts...we agreed just an emoji once a day

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/09/2017 07:44

Sorry for everyone struggling with this Thanks

Everytimeref · 18/09/2017 07:59

I am very late to this thread, but glad to have found it. My DD went to uni a week ago. Don't think I have slept properly since! Just can't explain the empty feeling.

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2017 08:03

Not even 48 hours in and I am struggling. Is it a teeny bit better than a week ago Every? I don't want to feel like this for long.

I just want to go and get him back TBH.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/09/2017 08:11

sparkling

Ds said he wasnt having a good morning yesterday

So i texted....is it a hangover or is someone being mean? I can drive up and you can point them out to me

It was the hangover

I know that he is going to have a great time, learn loads and become the fantastic man i know he will be

But he is not supposed to do it without me
